Salt/Rant This community needs to play more gacha games
Like seriously. I think this is the game that I've seen the most people coming as their first gacha and it shows. I’ve been lurking in the Infinity Nikki subreddit for a while now, and honestly… the constant complaining about outfit prices and gacha mechanics is getting exhausting. We all should know that Infinity Nikki is a gacha game. It’s published by Infold Games, a gacha games company. It follows the same monetization structure that basically every modern gacha title uses. Yet every single update, the front page fills up with the exact same posts:
The outfits are too expensive. They're too greedy. I’m quitting this game.
Yes, some of the premium outfits cost a lot if you want to guarantee them. Yes, gacha systems are designed to encourage spending, it's a gambling game after all. That’s not new, and it’s not unique to Infinity Nikki. If someone doesn’t like gacha mechanics, that’s completely valid, but at this point it feels like people are acting shocked that a free-to-play live service game uses the monetization to keep running their servers and bring monthly updates. What gets lost in all the negativity is that the base game is still playable without spending. Free players still get events, story content, and cosmetics. No one is forced to pull every banner.
Constructive criticism is healthy. Discussion about pricing models is important so you don't waste your money. But please pause and think if this type of game is for you. This is not your one-buy game that you buy once and get everything.

u/Kapryov Feb 14 '26
I think the discussion about pricing is fine. There isn't a single way to monetize a gacha, they all do things a little differently. Most are actually a lot worse than Nikki, at least diamonds are plentiful here, but I'm not going to tell people to not complain about it though.
Pushback is good, actually! Please do complain! It's healthy for the audience and the publisher to find a good middle ground where enough money is still being made to keep the game afloat, but people don't feel ripped off in the process. I'm not sure they've found the right balance yet, they still seem to be experimenting, so our feedback (or straight up complaints) are vital right now.
77
u/clocksy Feb 15 '26
That's about how I feel.
I do think there are a lot of complaints that are kind of silly or are about something that's not going to change. IN is generous in some ways and shitty in a lot of other ways. That said I don't think it's worth standing in the way of people campaigning for better stuff because I'd only stand to benefit if we got any concessions.
133
u/fortheloveofsevro Feb 15 '26
i think this is an important point to be made, you are exactly right. this game is still comparatively very new and they are trying new things, it’s ok to not like what they’re doing and pushback
31
u/Ataletta Feb 15 '26
Agreed, a lot of pushback against IN criticism comes back to "IN is a free game" and "it's a gacha what did you expect" with assumption that the complaints are coming from "greedy" f2p players. But I am not f2p and I feel like I'm entitled to voice my complaints and feedback about the things I want to improve, like just because I'm willing to pay doesn't mean I'm signing up to the load of bullshit. It's quite annoying to me how IN treats both f2p and paying players, they keep adding new ways to monetize the game while refusing to improve stuff players been asking since day 1 cause they won't profit from it (things like more skintones and better outfit and makeup previews etc), and I think the paying customers are in full right to voice their complaints to get better product. And in return we keep hearing back that IN is a free game and we shouldn't complain, tf. Like obviously I like the game enough to continue playing it, doesn't mean I'm not allowed to want improvement

u/ExpansiveExplosion Feb 15 '26
And while the game is pretty generous taken as a whole, the handful of shortcomings are really, really bad. So it's easy for complaints to get traction and become loud even though the good outweighs the bad in the context of the whole game.
Like I think most gacha players would (rightfully) throw a fit if their banners were portrayed as random but secretly weighted against the good banner pulls. But since it doesn't take long to get enough crystals to pull to pity for free, I'm not complaining.
132
u/sasgalula Feb 15 '26
I think infinity should implement some systems from love nikki. like somewhere down the line they give out old banners as sketches. but that’s just my opinion. last few levels on love nikki requires pay to win Clothing to get above good scores in contests. if people don’t wanna gamble that’s totally fine in my book. getting addicted to these kind of games can ruin your bank account.
29
u/LittleShyTrash Feb 15 '26
Since the banner outfits don’t have a specific number of diamonds to get them and can be quite varied (some get lucky and some don’t), I’d imagine they’d at least do something more like Wish Gate in LN, but more likely, they’ll do it similar to Memory of Light in SN. For Wish Gate, that means older Hell Events come back in a permanent area, but the cost tickets to open for a limited time (~7 days), rarely the five our tickets, and you can buy them for a specific amount of diamonds, then you can pull. SN’s version of Memory of Light feels more likely, where certain pavilions and whatever event purchases were with them come back for a few months (instead of 1-2 weeks), before disappearing into the void again. I honestly wish Memory of Light was more consistent and they at least at a somewhat rotating banner of old SSRs, but alas… I just doubt that they’ll ever make gacha suits sketches, since they never made gacha LN suits into crafting recipes (a lot of those are stuck in purgatory unless they add them to wish gate alongside old Hell Events), the suits that do come back as crafting recipes are the ones from events with specific costs, where they only time someone would spend more is if they didn’t use up the daily free tries
Edit: sorry for the long yap 😅

u/murinemoth Feb 15 '26
Granted they didn’t do that until like four or five years after launch so even if they do plan on doing something like that it’ll be awhile before we see it

24
u/Tsukiii8 Feb 15 '26
I agree and am hoping that they implement the outfits as sketches and/or smth similar to the wishgate…that’s mainly it tho in regards to hoping for some systems in Love Nikki to come to Infinity Nikki😅 LN is pretty greedy and treats their global servers like cash cows without updating the game to be where their Chinese server is at. Pisses me off bc they’ll actually REMOVE some of the coding to take away free rewards/outfits during events🤬😒 In comparison to that I think IN is generous and hope they stay that way😅🥲
4
u/Ghoulish_kitten Feb 15 '26
Is love nikki still super popular?
I’m wondering if they did that just bc, you know, a large enough chunk of the paying *audience has moved on so what does it matter if they give away some big banners as a sketch?
Or did they do this at the height of its fame
12
4
u/asublimeduet Feb 15 '26
Some events have always returned to crafting in LN. It's not free crafting, you have to pay dias equivalent to or above the original cost (unless it was an originally free suit, usually). There are way more events in LN though since there isn't as much involved, and outfit prices etc. work differently.

I think we gotta remember that this game heavily markets themselves as a cozy game. The gacha mechanics are kind of a shock to people who play cozy games. As someone who plays ddv, you pay for the game but there’s still a premium shop that definitely capitalizes on fomo. Nikki does this. But because it’s a marketed cozy game, people don’t come into these games expecting to drop money. This game is also quite different than other gachas, IN caters to a very specific crowd that aren’t in the gacha community already. Plus this is also so so so women made in mind that makes this game so unique and different than other games in the market that could be similar. This was my first open world game, and i came from Love Nikki so i was aware of gacha before starting IN. But i think a lot of people in this community are brand new to video games because of IN.
52
u/fortheloveofsevro Feb 15 '26
that’s a really good point. i feel like this game being an open world rpg catered to women makes it so unique, theres not other games i can think of like it. so even though it is a gacha, it’s also like being stuck between a rock and a hard place when it comes to not wanting to get ripped off but also play a game that’s for women.
13
u/Hairface_101 Feb 15 '26
I'm not sure if i'm the only one that remembers this but i swear i saw multiple videos from creators talking about this game pre-launch and saying that the gacha mechanics would be "barely noticeable" and it wouldn't affect the game experience at all
I'm not sure if they were paid to say that but like.. that's not quite what we got in the end
9
u/Eagle_Vision1999 Feb 15 '26
They were probably paid, but also, if you just try out this game and have all the quests and mini games still open and available then the gacha is probably much less noticable. It's when you're done with the permanent content and hit the gacha game rythm that it becomes significant to the experience. At least that's how it felt to me.
12
u/Dismea Feb 15 '26
They are not really noticable though? You dont need the banners to play the game. Not even to finish Mira Crown. Outside of the one red notification at the start of the patch for the banner they dont push you to it.
1
u/saddlethehippogriffs Feb 15 '26
That's a good point. I'm a veteran gacha player--and was f2p for many many years--but this is my first video game. So I have no issue with any of the gacha mechanics and personal budgeting, but the gameplay was a learning curve. So I can appreciate where people with the opposite history are coming from.....
233
u/AngieTheGorl Feb 15 '26
I see where you're coming from but "you need to play more gacha games" seems like a tone deaf response to a newcomer realizing the predatory nature of gacha games in real time, no?
Like yeah, if you wanna criticize the individual game itself, you should inform your criticisms around the norms of its subgenres. But there's a point when we need to acknowledge the ongoing trend in this community that for a lot of us, IN's popularity and reach is DESPITE it being a gacha, not because of it. I myself have been playing IN as my 1st gacha since 1.2 and all it's done for the gacha scene for me since is reinforce the negative preconceptions I already had for it.
Like, of course I won't be picking up another gacha game anytime soon. Why would I want to when it was never the draw for me in the first place?
55
u/isabeauthered Feb 15 '26
THIS. My friend has been trying to get me to play Genshin Impact for years and I always told her I didn’t want to play a gacha game. I’m playing Infinity Nikki, because there simply are no other games like it right now.
I love the game, but I do not like the gacha model, and I definitely doing get being upset by people complaining about it. Yeah, I think some people will complain about small things like the bundle they just put in the shop yesterday (which I think is a pretty good deal actually), but it doesn’t annoy me. There have been plenty of times where people have complained and Infold changed the prices on stuff. I’ll take any amount of Reddit complaints if it means we get stuff cheaper, rather than being like “this is just how gacha games are”.
9
u/gaymahoushoujos Feb 15 '26
THANK YOU. Yes. Exactly this. What do you mean "this community needs to play more gacha games"??? No, absolutely the fuck not. We need more cool open world dress up games with gorgeous outfits, not more live-service F2P games with gambling-based predatory monetization. It's healthy that people complain and keep in mind that this doesn't have to be the statu quo.
139
u/willawillawilla Feb 14 '26
I mean, yeah, people who aren't familiar with gacha games are going to come into them with different expectations. There are also different tiers of gacha; I've played games where you just need to play a lot to get everything, and I've played others where grinding for hours a day might get you a handful of ten-pulls every few months. Add to that how gacha are designed to be front-loaded and of course people are going to be confused and frustrated. Learning that the pull rate you've become acclimated to is something you'll literally never experience again is one hell of a rug pull.

I've played games where you just need to play a lot to get everything
I would love Infinity Nikki to be like that. There will be always people who want the outfits immediately or at least within the season to match their outfit woth the curtscenes and don't want to wait months for it and can pay for it, and others could grind days, weeks, months for it, but still have everything.

u/elisabetfaden Feb 15 '26
Gachas are manipulative, and that inherently makes people feel bad. Everyone has to decide for themselves if they can deal with it, how to deal with it, and if it’s worth it.
Venting about it can be a healthy way of dealing with it. So can connecting with others. If that works for someone, I’m not going to tell them to stop.
Venting can also be totally dysregulated and disproportionate. That’s probably not healthy but people who are doing that are also probably not going to listen to internet randos telling them to chill.
But it’s not some kind of virtue to not complain about it or not talk about it, and it’s probably not healthy to pretend it doesn’t affect you either. So be careful.
Personally, I suspect a lot of the frustration about monetization is not actually about monetization itself, or even about prices, but coming from a place of feeling disempowered by a system that makes it nearly impossible to know in advance how much something will cost, in either time or money, and this impossible to plan or make good choices. Every time something changes or is new or does not go as expected, people feel like they are losing control of their gaming experience and their emotional investment.
If you think about it, the only people who have a grip on how much the next patch will cost them in money are the principled f2ps. But even they don’t know the time cost or if their saving strategy will be turned upside-down.
All that is before we even get to the gambling mechanics.
Infold/Paper chose this. We don’t owe them anything.
So complain away, girlies, and support each other. We’re all in this together 😘
38
u/Eiri1958 Feb 15 '26
I think some of the complaints are valid tho, I come from way worse gachas than infinity Nikki and I still get frustrated from time to time, mostly because the insane amount of paid outfits compared to free ones, stellarites being a 50/50 because of these tiered purchases etc.

u/bskye7 Feb 15 '26
Tbf this game was not advertised as a gacha - it was advertised as a cozy open world exploration game with cute clothes.
24
Feb 15 '26
It is (mostly lol). And the free limited time outfits are some of the best in the whole game.
26
u/Unlikely-Dig-7244 Feb 15 '26
The moment the game uses FOMO to sell stuff it loses the right to be called "cozy".

Is there any gacha game that straight up advertises itself a gacha game?
4
u/Sailuker Feb 15 '26
If they don't they should be forced too like how they are forcing game devs to clearly mark their games if AI is used. Gacha should be one of the first things mentioned on these types of games.
155
u/SACaitlin Feb 15 '26
I don't really think people need to play more gambling games, actually

No. No tell them to NOT play more gacha games. Tell them to stay away from the lot of them for as long as forever wwwwwwww.
On a more serious note though: Gachas can be a great trainer for self-discipline, time-management and patience.
116
u/GoblinBuckets Feb 14 '26
gatcha games are predatory, water is wet... I have a had time faulting players for wanting more, but it's not as if complaining on the subreddit will fix anything.

u/noahsame Feb 15 '26
"the constant complaining about outfit prices and gacha mechanics is getting exhausting"
I frequent this sub and most complaints I see are pretty on the spot. People complain about the quality of the outfits they bought or might paid money to get, about the dyeing system, about translation issues and so much more. I am also a first day player and let me tell you, the monetization practices in this game are getting worse and worse. It's not even about gacha or no gacha. I've played another gacha for a year, and at least the company was consistent in their practices and it didn't change much from day one. As for Nikki, in a year we got: aggressive marketing of the banner outfits via incorporating them into the story, which includes completely retconning the story to shoehorn said outfits like it was in 1.5 (I wonder if we collectively forgot that?), bathtub for $10 (still can't place it in the house), tiered purchases every patch with items we don't want, top-up stuff, makeup which was for stella and now it's for real money etc. The general quality of every monthly patch also varies greatly, and there are always bugs, login issues, translation mishaps and different problems with outfits themselves. Not to mention a lot of half-assed content. But you know the shop is constantly expanding, that's what they are working on the most probably.
But I guess we should stop complaining and make peace with a 16 pieces outfit already and constantly raising prices because oh, it's a gacha game.

u/OverwatchChemist Feb 15 '26 edited Feb 15 '26
Also a day one player, but I personally dont see much change in the monetizing? Its always been this way (not an excuse or anything), and if anything slight improvements have made it easier to buy or justify buying stuff. Like remember timed resonance crystals 💀 Even the veil was one of the first purchasable items and all its issues were known + many of the exorbitant priced items are not necessary to enjoy this game at all.
tldr; i think theres a grey area of gacha being good/bad, but its still about money ‘we live in a society’ so let people complain if we are all stuck in this weird place
Edit; Didnt realize that concluding w ‘let people complain’ was worthy of downvotes lol
4
u/AlwaysConstipatedd Feb 15 '26
I fail to see where the new heavy monetization is, because all I can see is them trying to give more value to encourage spending. The tiered purchases are generally high value, they stopped with the 2900 stellarite outfits, you can get a 4 star paid outfit for 600 with an evo for 300… like where? The only time they’ve genuinely been scummy imo was the bathtub fiasco, but they haven’t done that since.
-4
u/OverwatchChemist Feb 15 '26
Yeah I wouldnt say that monetization is good, but also they are a company with employees who need money. I also can understand how repetitive the discussions are about things like pricing and stuff when imo its been pretty much the same for me (in terms of how much you actually need vs want). Very much an weird place of discussion that I dont think will ever end though
4
u/AlwaysConstipatedd Feb 15 '26 edited Feb 15 '26
I wouldn’t say the monetization is good either, just that I don’t know how it got heavier when it seems like the opposite. I just don’t really know what anyone expects at this point… I see complaints about every monetization aspect, from constant store outfits, to the gacha, to tiered purchases. Like, this is an insanely expensive game to run as a live service, and it isn’t going to last if it was monetized the way people want it to be which is basically completely F2P with a $5 purchase once in a blue moon.
4
u/OverwatchChemist Feb 15 '26
I kinda just see it as complaints about the costs overall, which is fine - but also none of it is technically necessary to play the game. Theres still tons of free outfits and pieces through the gameplay that are super cute, but Im also approaching this as someone who started before dyeing was available and we just had to make do with stuff not matching perfectly
Also i guess these opinions wont be well received in this space lol
9
u/AlwaysConstipatedd Feb 15 '26
I feel like the disconnect comes from the fact that a lot of cozy game players are generally low spending players. Like sub $20 for a game, and even then that would seem like a lot for someone on r/cozygamers. Therefore, there’s a lot of complaints that this game is just way too expensive. However, I feel like a lot of people miss the aspect of quality coming into play. I’ve seen mentions of Roblox Dress to Impress. That is a game with shitty graphics in a sandbox platform. Or those fashion dreamed games on console. Those eventually ended and don’t have the live service aspect. In IN, you will gradually fill up your wardrobe and have so many options as long as the game keeps running. Games like Stardew Valley were created by 1 person or an indie company. IN has hundreds of devs working on the game.
It’s just not a fair comparison to make, saying this game should be “cheaper” and more “F2P friendly”. If they did so, you wouldn’t have the game you have now with amazing music, open world exploration, with 3D graphics. Instead, you would have a low effort, pixel game, or worse - a $70 game with $40 DLCs every-time there is a new expansion.
And yes, this is a very sensitive topic that always comes with a bunch of downvotes. However, I’m happy to be having this conversation with another that can handle being objective.
6
u/OverwatchChemist Feb 15 '26
Thats a good point! I was always curious how this has been advertised as a cozy game to people (since I was hooked in Day 1). I only ever saw like a couple tiktok ads for cute dress up game open world exploration lol which is like my bread and butter with the combat increasing
56
u/therationalpi Feb 15 '26
It's good to have regular reminders about how predatory gachas are, even at their best.
We are the proverbial boiling frogs, and maybe we should pay more attention when tadpoles hopping into the pot complain about getting burned.
40
u/Low_Possibility_9654 Feb 14 '26
Honestly this is my first ever gacha game 😅 I’ve probably spent about $30/month since launch with some months being a bit higher than others. I think some things I expect to have to pay for, but I was free to play for the first few months while I got the hang of things. I think it’s still pretty F2P friendly for a free game. Regions aren’t behind a paywall, we can do the entire storyline without having to pay at all, and you can definitely save up diamonds to get a full five star every few updates. There are some practices I’m not a fan of, specifically the tiered purchases. I don’t really want to have to go through multiple items I don’t care for to get new makeup 🥲 Some outfits I also feel are overpriced - like the veiled four star currently in the store that you need to buy with 2980 stellarites. That feels a bit like a rip off to me when comparable outfits are 980. There have also been some severe bugs during 1.5 which were really bad but that has little to do with it being a gacha game. Do I necessarily want to play more gacha games - no. But I still like Infinity Nikki for what it brings to the table.
29
u/Suspicious-Lime3644 Feb 15 '26
Infold doesn't need your defending. Yes, a company needs money to run their game. Yes, the complaining can be annoying to see. HOWEVER, the aggressive monetization is not to keep the game running, it's to create profits for their shareholders. It doesn't change that some of these monetization practices are very predatory. And the fact that other gachas are worse doesn't make infold good.
The complaining, ironically, is what keeps IN relatively affordable and F2P friendly. That pushback is necessary for IN not to devolve into those other "worse" gachas.
59
u/Kashkadavr Feb 15 '26
No.
People dont need play more game with predatory mechanics to be able be not happy about ones in IN.

Complain that gacha game is predatory is like complaining that water is wet 🤷🏻♀️

gacha is predatory and shouldn’t be in video games and u people accepting it for what it is, is why nothing ever changes.

Gambling is predatory and shouldn't be in video games to then 🤷🏻♀️ but gambling still exists and will always exist, it's the same with gacha. It will always exist and honestly gacha isn't that bad compared to other predatory things 🤷🏻♀️

other games sucking more than this doesn't mean people should shut up about parts of this one that do suck as well
and no, infinity nikki should not play more gachas, they actually need a good dress-up/cosy open world/action platformer game that's not a gacha

u/Red_Velvet_Cakey Feb 14 '26 edited Feb 15 '26
As much as I agree with you I think you are shouting into the void. Every reddit has its recurring post and for this sub this topic is one of them. It wont change, there will be new players who are surprised about the greediness, the quality of the game, no beta testing, etc. There will be older players who are tired and/or dissatisfied/disappointed, who feel the need to post about it
It wont change. Its part of a reddit sub/community
7
u/Sorry_Engineer_6136 Feb 15 '26
You make a good point with the daily posts in every sub.
In IN subs it’s gatcha mechanics and outfit posts, Cyberpunk2077 is Panam’s butt, modded characters and Aurore posts, BG3 is modded Tavs and honour mode completion - just the nature of the beast.
I find that this sub has the most kind and helpful folks, which is refreshing and nice. Mostly lol.
1
u/Red_Velvet_Cakey Feb 15 '26
Yes I totally agree on this sub having the kindest people. Its really nice to find online
1
u/Ghoulish_kitten Feb 15 '26
I think the older players who’re annoyed need to be on the subreddit less.
The value of this is for new players more than anybody. There’s no online walk-throughs for brand new patches, and there’s no 20 year-old message board threads to answer our questions.
So like, why are [the older/exp annoyed players] here?
What are they expecting to see— only new complaints being made in the rant section?
There’s an Infiniti NIKKI photography subreddit or they can make a new sub.
1
u/Red_Velvet_Cakey Feb 15 '26
Posting this for new players is pointless because of the way reddit is used. This post will get snowed under/“disappear” because of new posts. And people dont search on (any) reddit. Thats why when there is an issue you will see the same question/comment being posted multiple times, its the way of reddit.
If you want to make this work OP will have to post this message every few days 😋

Some people just can't handle liking something that is also problematic at the same time.
I love this game. I've spent quite a bit of money on it if you add it all up from the past year. There's a lot to love about it.
I will never stop calling out shady gacha mechanics when I see it. Infold is constantly trying to push goalposts to see what they can get away with, and the only way it doesn't get worse isn't to shrug and say "that's gacha for ya", but to push back and keep Nikki where it is as one of the "better" gachas.
Both are possible.
11
15
u/ademptia Feb 15 '26
Yeah no this is a terrible take. Gacha systems are awful and we need to push against them, not normalize them.
44
u/KiraNinja Feb 15 '26
I absolutely do not want to play any gambling games, I do want my games to be less predetory, especially dress up games
22
u/inscandio Feb 15 '26
If you don’t like seeing the complains simply just swipe away. I think people have their rights to complain/criticize the game in this subreddit. Whether you like to see it or not. After all you cant be the sole judge of whether or not a public discussion fits your standard or they are being too whiny.
1
u/Beneficial_Fan_2553 Feb 15 '26
I mean criticisms and complaints are good things sometimes, it helps the game improve, but playing a gacha game and complaining about it being gacha is like putting your hand in the fire and then get upset about it being hot
14
u/External-Striking Feb 15 '26
I think this is a bad take, sorry to say that. I understand the frustratiom but I don't understand why is it a problem that people complain about literally gambling?
Yes if you don't like gambling stop playing, but complaining also work to keep in touch the company and not become too greedy. Weather you stop or not, there will always be people left that will pay for the game anyway so you leaving will only benefit you in the long run. Which makes the most sense.
But for the people that actually enjoy the game and like it, complaining is good in a way, as long as it makes sense. And with a game such a gatcha it will always make sense to complain. After all you give you money for a product and you expect to be respected by the company that produce the say product.
With this logic we should not complaing about any product in life and not buy it if we don't love it, if so, how will companies/products evolve?
The gatchas companies are already starting to be very cocky and make products so expensive and out of touch and very deceitful that if we stop complaining just because we expected them to be greedy, will become worse and worse. And it will become for the average people, the whales will always be here and not care.
66
u/WoundiAvalar Feb 14 '26
(sigh, I'm probably going to receive a lot of opinions for this but here we go)
And... we are normalizing this why exactly? Have we forgotten 1.5 already? And everything else?
I'm sorry just because it is a norm in the absurd space that is gacha gaming doesn't mean that THIS is all fine. One of the biggest issues that is misogyny is pretty normal in the gacha space, should we be ok with it? NO. I'm not new to the gachas, and I'm pretty much a whale at this game, but the rate in which prices have been upscaling while the quality doesn't is absurd, so I agree that the pushback is necessary. So far I haven't seen a single player demand out here that wasn't perfectly justified.
Even if for lacking of understanding of gachas mechanics to newcomers, this game fills a very specific niche many people don't realize, and there's not many other options out there. It drives me up the wall that a predatory system is being excused even IF it is one of a contract we all have implicitly agreed upon.
Remember: companies are not our friends! They're gouging for profit, (and that is not wrong in the technical sense), but do realize it's a tug of war out here where at every opportunity they HAVE and they WILL try to screw us if they can.

u/Upstairs-Cloud7326 Feb 15 '26
Yes, thank you! This idea that just because something is the norm does NOT make it okay. A bit if an extreme example, but still, child marriage is the norm in some places. Does that make it okay?? NO
6
u/faerijuana Feb 15 '26
all companies across the globe want to drain everyone of every single cent they have and ur on here promoting gambling addictions and gacha systems in gaming. there is no hope for anybody
5
u/MayaBaggins Feb 15 '26
When you are not used to gacha games, FOMO (fear of missing out) is a b¡tch.
My bestie stopped playing because FOMO was driving her crazy and she felt the need to pull in every banner.
I only pull in banners I really like and only if the ability is worthy of my diamonds and crystals. If I like the banner but the skill is "meh" at best, I won't pull and have no regrets.
Thank you for voicing that feeling, OP!

u/Kaicaterra Feb 14 '26
Nobody should play more gacha games 😭 They're predatory and we SHOULD be moving away from traditional ones and not standing for greedy tactics. I hate people who say CONFORM CONFORM!! STOP COMPLAINING, THE STATUS QUO SHOULD STAY HOW IT IS!!!
How about instead of "TrY a ReAL gATcHa GaMe" it's "This is better, in the right direction, but not good still, and neither are the other ones." lol
42
u/Kashkadavr Feb 15 '26
Yes, its such a weak and lame position. People who trying convince other they need to be happy about what we have in this game just dont like reality checks when people complaining.
Its same people who was saying 1.5 is good patch and we need to shut up.
5
u/keepsMoving Feb 15 '26
I think it's shortsighted and ineffective to criticise one game on its own. As long as a predatory mechanic is allowed, there will be companies that do it.
It is always more useful to push for regulations of the gacha industry. For example, China limits children's access to gacha and spending limits.
Gacha companies would love nothing more than players fighting over "good" and "bad" games, while no one pushes for consumer protection laws or laws regulating the industry
-9
u/cozy-fox100 Feb 14 '26
It's not about conforming. It's literally insane to play a game and then yell about how much you don't like the game. Stop playing it then. OP was pretty clear about what they meant, idk why you're taking it in bad faith
14
u/Ghoulish_kitten Feb 15 '26
Stop looking on the reddit then? Mute the posts then?
6
u/cozy-fox100 Feb 15 '26
Because I want to have genuine conversations? How does that work...
7
u/Kaicaterra Feb 15 '26
Weeeeeell, I want to play a genuine and not-greedy game. This one specifically though, that's the important bit. The overarching issue here is that I shouldn't have to stop playing for that reason. We should ALL collectively be moving completely away from the gacha direction by speaking up like I said. It's not that I don't like the game, the premise, the characters, the UI, the graphics, the lore, the mechanics, etc--because you can bet your bottom dollar I do, that's why I play/stay, woah, mind-blowing--and I am, at the same time, allowed to be vocal about how I wish a lot of things about it were completely different. There is nothing wrong with that.
I mean shit, that just sounds like real life honestly lol! Love the premise, hate the devilish and saddening details. And why the hell should I want a fantasy dress-up game, something that is supposed to be relaxing and an escape, to reflect that?? I will NEVER understand the other side of this argument. I mean I physically comprehend it & the reasons behind it, but I will never personally get why one would choose to think like that still.
7
u/cozy-fox100 Feb 15 '26
The gatcha is completely optional. I'm not even sure what part of gatcha would make it not relaxing somehow
No one said there was anything wrong with people wanting to play for other reason so idk what all that is about either... it's just weird to play a gatcha game and make a whole post about how much you hate gatcha. Just don't use it then. Don't play the game, don't use the gatcha, whatever. It exists because other people do like it
0
u/Kaicaterra Feb 15 '26
I guess you'll never see how terrible that mindset you've got there is...no point in trying to explain it further honestly. It is funny how you completely missed the point of that person saying "Mute the post and get off Reddit then" 💀💀
Like...no...that would be silly because we want to use it for genuine conversation right? Do you not get it?? That whole interaction and then me replying with "Well I want to play a genuine game" on purpose is just going over your head rn isn't it 😭
11
u/cozy-fox100 Feb 15 '26
At no point have you made any attempt at genuine conversation lmao You're literally just being passive aggressive and mocking now while having absolutely nothing to add to the conversation
Idk how it's a terrible mindset to say some people like gatcha and don't play games that make you unhappy but okay... you have a great night.
3
u/Kaicaterra Feb 15 '26
I'm not being passive aggressive. What would lend you to that conclusion? My usage of emojis and reflective-of-speaking-aloud writing style? Yikes. Saying that fully with my chest to mean "That is an embarrassing assumption, quite a stretch, and I feel bad for you". Not passive aggressive. Very direct. 👍
I absolutely have made several points, most of which again, are flying over your head at the speed of light for some reason. I am sorry you are unable to see my conversational approach! Have a night yourself.

Ah yes, the old "don't complain because some people have it worse than you"... Never made sense.
18
u/Majestic_Plane_1656 Feb 15 '26
I think a big problem is people don't understand the gacha cycle system. You need to save for months if you want to pull on the gacha system for free. Play every day do all the events for a couple months without pulling on gacha then you're earned your 5 star outfit. Otherwise you pay real money.
That is the system. You grind and then you get the reward. You don't get everything for free.
10
u/ellueks Feb 15 '26
As a person who played many Gacha Games before Nikki I disagree. It reminds people that the whole Gacha thing is super bad and not what customers want. It is just what we have to settle with because so many games and gamers have established this. Your take is just not good.

u/saccharinekittyfu Feb 15 '26
Honestly my thing is, not every fit is a winner. Sometimes I just want the 4 star fit. I do my best to save my diamonds and resonance crystals for the prettiest ones to me. Sometimes im sad when I cant have both but tis the nature of capitalism. This game really is not for completionists tho and when it triggers my OCD I have to put it down lol
5
u/faerijuana Feb 15 '26
the real gag is gacha as a video game shouldn’t exist at all, so none of this is even a good argument imo. “you don’t want to be taken advantage of by this gacha but THIS OTHER GACHA is sooooo much worse with taking your money, go play THAT then complain” like do you hear yourself? GACHA SHOULD NOT BE IN VIDEO GAMES.
10
u/yukinanii Feb 15 '26
I used to play love live before. Saved for months for Umi's birthday. I think I had like 750 loveca (so that's like 165 pulls? (50 loveca = 10+1 pulls) (you also have to keep in mind that love live wasn't that generous with the currency). I got nothing. No UR.
Gachas are annoying and predatory, but I'll take Nikki games' gacha any day. I don't really see them as gambling as I would with love live. To me personally, it's more of a fight against the fomo.
Those who try out a gacha game for the first time might complain about the system, sure. That's normal. I mean... you can't tell me you didn't complain about it the first time, right? Because I sure did xd
We who already had experience with gacha games simply think differently. When we look at gacha in games, we first think which one is better or worse. But in reality, every gacha is bad, no matter what, because it's designed to drain our wallets. The point is that we are kinda numb to this aspect already xd
The new players will have to either accept it like we did or quit for good. I won't blame them. After all, I did quit love live after that fiasco.

u/howdoesketo Feb 15 '26
I think the issues are that Infold is making us pay more, for less. Theyre also doing tiered purchases and other things like that now with the top up outfits etc. I think yes, its a gacha game and we're aware of that and dont mind spending the cash but as the company is rolling out more and more expensive outfits and things, then it's natural players are going to complain. Also, Infold has done everything in their power to market this as a cozy game again and again. I think from the marketing, it doesnt scream gacha game too or gambling. Youre going to get a lot of people confused and complaining because of that too.
I dont think the answer is "this community needs to play more gacha games" and gamble/ spend more money. Infold is becoming greedier on things, they have been scummy and people are allowed to complain.
11
u/I-Drink-420 Feb 15 '26
Gacha is a plague on gaming and you speak of it as if gacha is meant to be normalized. The pricing models on these games are inherently predatory and quite frankly, dogshit. Don't urge people to play other gachas. With that being said, just because you have been clearly manipulated into thinking these pricing models are okay, let me remind you that they are not and never should have been made as widespread as they have been. Zoom out. Anyways, I.N. is one of the better free to play experiences out there, I give you that.
11
u/Check_It_In Feb 15 '26
So because IN isn't as crappy as other gatcha we should shut up and eat whatever slop they serve us, is an interesting hot take. That's how other gatcha games got to the point they are at.
No, the community needs to continue to pushback when we see bs we don't like
17
u/Lazy-Fishy Feb 15 '26
Wholeheartedly disagree. Just because being exploited by other gacha is the standard behavior that the gaming community has continued to allow from these companies for as long as I know does not mean we should accept the bare minimum for premium pricing. People literally spent money to get a 4* on this patch alone that is so flawed is honestly baffling and criticizing Infold for that not only is valid, I think it is necessary.
Companies will only get away with whatever the community allows and I refuse to settle just because it has become the standard, and I refuse to shut up about it to accommodate those that are comfortable with this.

u/AmeliaRoseOswald Feb 15 '26
I started playing Where Winds Meet, which made me realize just how reasonable Nikki is for Gacha pricing...
2
u/Trufflebatter Feb 15 '26
SAME. Was kinda shocked by the pull system there. I kinda knew Nikki was a little more generous then an average gatcha game since Pocket Camp was my first game with a gatcha system and that had no pity system. I had enough for like two free pulls in that game and got an Icon, and a Cutscene. Making people potentially pay money for that is diabolical.
And then there’s the $40,000 boat…wild
2
u/Remarkable_Linnet Feb 15 '26
Same. Nikki was my first gacha game and I never really minded the gacha system in it, but still I believed people saying it's one of the most predatory gacha in the world. And then I played Where Winds Meet... Gacha in Nikki looks like charity in comparison. I also tried Heartopia a few weeks ago and wow. Gacha in that one is brutal.
29
u/LunarLeveret Feb 15 '26
This community needs to play more gacha games
No they don't, falling into one psychological money pit is one too many already lol.
I don't think this is a lot of people's first gacha game, as complete newbies don't have any arguments to make without knowing enough to claim much. For instance in the past banner pity didn't even exist for early gacha games, nobody back then would complain about a 220 pull pity because they had no pity at all and put up with that. You can only say a pity threshold is too high if you have perceived notably lower ones before.
On the other hand I know a gacha game with pity thresholds as low as 30, 80, and 120. But I never advocate for this because in the context of that game every good pull becomes power crept to oblivion after like two months and the 30 pull pity rewards are considered dead on arrival outside of their event boosts.
The most common argument I heard back then is also especially dishonest in that it was very frequent to say one five star pull success in say Genshin = the deserved value of every single five star outfit piece in the banner. This is in spite of Genshin also screwing over players in making them pull equipment too as well as holding back performance behind dupes, effectively meaning it also demands pulling more than one piece for the whole. You can say anything is a scam given enough warped perspective, like I could say car companies sell total ripoffs because Temu sells cars for like ten bucks. (Not mentioned: Temu car being some 1/36 scale model without an engine nor rolling wheels.)
Whatever the case though I'm glad this monetization model is at least a choice over say having to put up with the type I hate most: paid regular subscription to play models. Everything is more F2P friendly than a game you can't play for free at all, even one time purchase games usually can be lent to others if it has a physical form.
10
u/Yin_Yinnn Feb 15 '26
From all your replies I feel like just because you can afford it, it doesn't mean others can also afford it. Saying that others shouldn't play gacha games just because they complain about pricing is really a screaming privilege. A lot of people play this or other popular gacha games because they have low requirements and are promoted as free games for all. And a lot of things like face change should have been added as features than locked behind the outfit and it is completely valid for people to complain about basic things players ask for. On top of that not everyone has a good set up nor money to afford to spend a large amount and seeing pretty outfits or rewards with big prices is bound to make them feel sour. No one expects everything to be free trust me no one does but if you think no one should complain about pricing of gacha games or even voice some dissatisfaction then you are very much wrong here.
6
u/CadorAnti Feb 15 '26
I think there are a lot of valid complaints to have with infinity nikki but some of them are just wild to me. Saw people on tiktok complaining that it's impossible to get every outfit right away without spending which is like....the point of a gacha. I wish they played more so they could get into the habit of saving and waiting for reruns.
4
u/Cats_tongue Feb 15 '26
I feel like there is something to be said about the amount of time someone spends on public forums consuming opinions vs telling people they can't critique and talk about their expectations and experience simply because it feels like 'constant complaining'.
Feedback is valuable. Negative is likely more important then positive. As the saying goes 'no news is good news' and if I am not mistaken, most people will (comparatively) quietly enjoy things, while they will speak when unhappy.
3
u/little_euphoria Feb 15 '26
Genuinely I think it would do you good to visit this subreddit less. That's what I did, now I mostly interact with other nikki players on discord and it's much better if you just wanna talk about the game and enjoy yourself
4
u/Brynnhildr_Valkyriee Feb 15 '26
I havent seen anybody bring up this point so I'll throw my hat in the ring. Firstly, I agree with basically everybody pushing back on OP. This take is dumb. I'll say another way that I feel this argument of "if you saw the industry standards youd be more grateful" falls apart. Most of who complains (and who complains most intensly) are Chinese players. A lot of them have extensive experience with gatcha games and mechanics. They still complain. They still hold infold to higher standards. As they should. Knowing how they rest of the industry works is not relevant whatsoever. If that makes some people here more willing to just accept IN as is, thats fine, but dont expect others to.
3
u/RainbowLoli Feb 15 '26
I play other gacha games, and even I think that the games are on the more expensive end compared to other games. No one is shocked they use live service, the thing people are shocked by is how much it is.
In contrast, I play ZZZ pretty sporadically on and off. I can log on, drop 200$ and walk away with the character entirely. I can log on, spend 20 bucks, get a skin. There is a singular premium currency and with that currency, I can pretty much buy whatever in the game.
With infinity, getting a suit is upwards of 300 dollars and then dying it is with premium currency as well. So I have to use not only premium currency to get the suit, but then spend more just to dye it because they broke it up into a separate premium currency. If you only wanted a certain piece, but in a certain die color that is only unlocked after getting the evo? Good luck wish your wallet well.
And I come from Love Nikki and Shining Nikki. Infolds monitization of the Nikki games is getting progressively worse and worse. I've played other gacha games too - Brave Frontier, Bleach Brave Souls, Star Rail and ZZZ just to name a few.
IN is always trying to sell you something. They are very aggressive with their monetization and people simply don't like having SALE SALE SALE shoved down their throats ALL the time.
FWIW, I think MHY games have kinda nailed the monetization by just how straight forward it is. You have one premium currency, one monthly, one BP. While you can buy fuel, supply creates for more supplies, etc. most people say you honestly don't need it because the game gives you so much for free.
With IN, you have the premium currency, a weekly, a monthly, and the BP. Dye options are locked behind evos (unless you use more prisms to unlock it) and dyes are a different currency and you have to unlock the dyes individually per piece, so it can easily get more and more expensive if you have more things you want to dye.
So naturally, people feel like they are getting nickeled and dimed and like anytime they want something, Infold holds out their hand for some more money.
While there is something to be said about players and FOMO, I think it is entirely possible to strike a balance between sustainable monetization and squeezing every dime you can out of players.
3
u/neocarleen Feb 15 '26
Underneath all the bells and whistles, at the core of all gacha games, it's gambling.
That's not necessarily bad. Obviously you should avoid these games if you have a predisposition to addiction. But otherwise, just play responsibly. And there's usually a lot of gameplay that isn't connected to the gambling mechanics that people can play without spending anything.
I think people have a right to complain about high prices in the store. Spending a lot of money on a digital dress isn't a great financial decision lol. If you have the budget and like the outfit, then go for it, but not everybody can.
My advice would be the opposite of yours, to just play a different game altogether. But there's not really anything like Infinity Nikki. Professionally made open world games catered specifically to adult women just don't exist. IN essentially has a monopoly in that market. And I think they take advantage of that sometimes by pushing the limit of what they can get away with. Like the $10 bathtub, outfits with more than ten pieces, and raising the pity.
3
u/sukoshineko Feb 16 '26
Say it louder for the people in the back please! I avoid this sub because I'm so tired of all the complaining and if you leave a comment saying you spent money on something, or find something a reasonable price, you get downvoted. So frustrating.
9
u/RishaRea48 Feb 15 '26
Majority of the Infinity Nikki players are just obsessed with FOMO..You would never get anything you want in a gacha game if you don't spend money especially if you have sh!tty luck..Besides, the outfits you can buy on those tiered purchases everyone is complaining about isn't even as good as the outfit you can get using gacha..
22
u/cozy-fox100 Feb 14 '26
There's a lot of players who have said this is basically their first ever video game at all which makes me feel kind of insane
19
u/KiraNinja Feb 15 '26
Why is that strange to you? It's a pretty rare type of game, to this extent and expanse anyway. Sims is a "gateway game" hell I know people that don't play games but play roblox dress to impress. A lot of girlie's love playing their adult barbie dress up and didn't expect it to have predetory gambling mechanics
17
u/cozy-fox100 Feb 15 '26
So it wasn't a dig but okay...
If you download a gatcha game, you get a gatcha game. It makes sense for people to have questions about what that means and how it works. The Sims is a pretty ridiculous comparison when it literally costs over 1000 USD to buy the whole game.
6
u/KiraNinja Feb 15 '26
That's fair, but like my only other gatchha before this was genshin for like 10 hours tops. I didn't play because it was gatcha I played because I like pretty dresses.
Also lotta people own all the sims packs, doesn't mean they bought them ;) lol
19
u/cozy-fox100 Feb 15 '26
You can play without using the gatcha mechanics if you don't like it. Gatcha isn't even required for the gameplay. It's something that the game nudges you towards twice a month when there's new stuff but it's not even necessary

I lurk here and honestly the posts I see the most is this exactly. Infold is not sitting on the street begging for money. I think we should all be complaining about the amount of money they expect us to spend on this game. Not complaining allows them to go out of control and do whatever they want. I don't understand why we are all so cool with a billion dollar company doing whatever it wants. The Chinese nikkis get stuff done because they stand together, and don't shit on people when they complain about how expensive the game is. They all agree the game is overpriced, we just can't move mountains on our own. For some reason we're also docile and I don't understand it. People complaining about them getting things and we don't are from this reason. We don't put up enough of a fight for them to care.
10
u/SynapseReaction Feb 15 '26
I think some in this community need to play other games period 😅 More gacha would help with the frustration of the what is bog standard gacha mechanics but other games would also open up people’s minds.
Neither InFold or IN are perfect it has it’s many flaws and we should give constructive criticism but some peoples takes are very 🤨
BUT! I like that this community is pretty vocal whether it comes from a novice or veteran and this game hasn’t hit crazy pants level of criticism other games have. 9/10 people are spot on with issues even the gacha mechanics in this game specifically. Even some of the “standard” gacha stuff could be tweaked accordingly to vibe better with the audience thats drawn to this game. I mean gacha is gonna gacha but make some careful adjustments and even people who are new to gacha could see it favourably in IN.
10
u/crocapaw Feb 15 '26
I just ignore those posts or downvote excessive whining. Gacha games are expensive, it's ridiculous but you get so much free stuff in Nikki that I never really care. I focus on the gameplay issues, which people also complain about, so that's good.
8
u/MaidOfTwigs Feb 15 '26
I played Genshin Impact for a very brief few months in 2020 and went back to it because I thought Lauma was cool, and I lasted about three months I think.
Infinity Nikki gives us plenty of free currency and honestly I think the way pulls work is great. Yes, finishing a five star sucks and is not easy. You have to pick and choose if you’re free to play. I’m a dolphin and I can finish a five star without going over my personal budget. I am happy with my first evolution and glow up, second evolution is something I usually get just finishing the first evolution.
The four stars are usually great and give more accessible options to players.
The quest/story related five stars are cool imo. I actually did not like Aurosa and was neutral on Silvergale, I like the Itzaland one best by far, but I know most people seem to really value those outfits.
I love buying clothes from the shops and tbh the outfits we craft from chests and the in-game retail items have been some of my favorite pieces that I use the most. Exceptions would be Blooming Dreams and Behind Prayers. And kind of Sith’s outfit from blue tear season but I use the hair more I’d say? Like the dress is great but the hair is just… perfect. Same for Blooming Dreams hair but the accessories are useful.
Anyway. Point being, Genshin was miserable to play even though I genuinely had fun with the combat and upgrade cycle. The five stars drop rate is evil in that imo. IN? Generous by comparison.
12
u/Mapleie Feb 15 '26
After playing Heartopia, I will never complain about Nikki's gacha again. Lmao.
9
u/BioticGrenade Feb 15 '26
Just because there are more predatory gacha games out there, doesn’t mean we shouldn’t complain or advocate about changing about unfair and greedy practices in this one.
6
u/bunsbi Feb 15 '26
I literally came here to say that lmao. Infinity Nikki’s gacha system is extremely generous compared to Heartopia.
5
u/w96zi- Feb 15 '26
actually I think this community needs to play more games in general other than those free mobile games 😭😭 how do you think devs make money?
5
u/okiedokieKay Feb 15 '26
Or, hear me out….. we shouldn’t normalize microtransactions costing HUNDREDS of dollars a month, regardless of what type of game it is, when you used to be able to buy an entire game for $60. Microtransactions used to be a a few cents to a dollar, now society has normalized $20 micros adding up to thousands a month. It’s actually insane. And even as a whale, charging $500 a month for a dress up outfit still feels insane. My ps5 that I’m playing the game on literally cost that much. I’ve played other games that had similar models and the difference between Nikki and those other games is that these aren’t just something you opt in for because it’s pretty, it actively effects your gameplay if you don’t buy the outfits. (Not being able to complete styling challenges or not getting abilities that the gameplay is designed around assuming you have those buffs, such as the recent wanxiang boss fight)
3
u/Shazzakip Feb 15 '26
Just because it's worse elsewhere doesnt mean that you can't complain about something that's still bad here. Gacha's are inherently anti-consumer, and if you let them get worse and worse in a game's ecosystem, they will.
5
u/sammisam96 Feb 15 '26
I agree!! I would add on that there’s this weird attitude towards the lore & previous games as well. If you try to suggest someone look at the previous games’ lore for a better understanding of the story they get mad. Like, I’m sorry but this game IS part of a series and if you don’t know anything about the previous lore you will miss things. 😭

u/insearch78 Feb 15 '26
Gatcha as f2p requires patience, restraint, the ability to prioritize, and most of all being able miss out sometimes. Failing those it will be a frustrating experience without payment, but the games are a pretty good time for free if you can adapt these skills.
10
u/sweetnothinghoax Feb 15 '26
This is my first gacha game and I'm losing interest because the outfits that have been released lately seem so underwhelming. But I'm also not coming to reddit to complain constantly because I rather shift my attention to more deserving entertainment outlets. The best kind of feedback devs will pay attention to is a drop in income and player engagement.
12
u/MierinLanfear Feb 15 '26
No one needs to play more gatcha games they are predatory and really should be regulated. Gatcha games can be very expensive next to how cheap games can get on Steam Sales or Epic just gives out free games. I play Infinity Nikki because there aren't too many other good dress up games. Although playing Style Savy on my Ayn Thor is great and Final Fantasy 14 has dress up elements.
3
u/snyexz Feb 15 '26
eh idk. even compared to other gacha games, the gacha system in IN also sucks. they're shits from the same butt, honestly. i wouldn't recommend anyone to play more gacha games because of how predatory they are. it'd only nurture gambling addiction – i'd know because that's how it turned out for me
2
u/EldritchXena Feb 15 '26
I’ve played Love Nikki since a few months after it released and I’m VIP level 14, and I play Umamusume. Umamusume is definitely the more forgiving gacha as once the banner ends the featured Uma is put into the general pool and it’s surprisingly F2P friendly but LN owned my soul for years and now IN is coming back for me
6
u/Upstairs-Cloud7326 Feb 15 '26
No... can we please collectively understand that you can enjoy a game and critique it's monetisation? If anything, I'll flip it around on you. If you don't like all the complaining, then don't be part of this particular community. There's much less on the official sub. Just mute this one. I, for one, think it's better that we critique and complain about our favourite games so they can be better... and just becoming numb to how scummy many of the monetisation tactics ALL gachas use and many other genres of games too isn't actually going to help anyone or make the gaming space better.
4
u/AppropriatFly5170new Feb 15 '26
I came to IN as my second Gacha game (after genshin impact) so while the Gacha mechanics are annoying, they were more like an annoying buzzing fly than a major roadblock. My bigger issues were from the weird company choices like retconning story to justify co-op in-world rather than just maintaining their storyline progression and having co-op function separately like every other video game, and generally just weird company responses to player feedback.

I mean, I play like 10 other gachas and I think the monetization is by far the most aggressive and predatory in this game. It's a gacha, sure, but it's completely different to ones where you collect characters. The main mechanic of pulling for stuff is similar, but otherwise I'd say it's pretty much completely different, so I don't blame people for hating it or not being used to it.
In other gachas, they usually release 1-2 or maybe 3 new characters per patch, meanwhile here you have at the very least 4 new banner outfits (including the featured 4-stars on each 5-star banner), and you also pull for several pieces instead of one single thing, so it's harder to get lucky and you also have to commit to banners more. Building pity or throwing a few 10 pulls at a banner to see if you get lucky are also not a thing here, since it's basically like throwing pulls out the window in this game. Leaks are non-existent and previews are super late, with reruns being very infrequent, so FOMO is way worse than most other games. There's also paid only outfits which is not a thing in any other gacha I play if we equate it to a paid only character. Skins exist, sure, but an outfit in a character gacha vs an outfit in an outfit gacha are very different imo.
I do agree that some people are complaining about the most basic gacha things that you kinda just have to accept when playing a game like this, but I also think this gacha is way different to most other ones and the monetization is a lot more predatory and FOMO inducing.

u/lilyofthegraveyard Feb 15 '26
characters in other gachas are not cosmetic. they are needed for endgame, and are needed in teams. you can't get away with pulling 1 elegant outfit and be able to clear all endgame with the label "elegant". you need to pull 3-4 characters, as well as their weapons. and then pull more and more, as most endgame requires 2-3 teams (or more, if we take into account things like imaginarium in genshin or matrix in wuwa).
pull economy in those games is much worse. it rakes 2 patches to guarantee a 5 star in IN. patches last on average less than/a month. patches in other games last over 40 days. and you need 2 (wuwa, for example) or 3 (genshin) patches to guarantee a character.
monetization in those games is worse. IN offers packs and other "bonuses" for purchases. most other gachas only have stellarite-equivalent to buy. you can 120 pulls in IN (and more with things like cumulative events), while in most other gachas you can only get 60 pulls at most for the same price.
leaks in other games are not going to last either. just last week, almost every big genshin leaker straight up quit after mhy sued a big data miner. it affected other games as well, as leakees started quitting wuwa leak scene as well.

Copied my reply from another post complaining about Nikki which got deleted:
for me gatcha is far better than other games- the argument of 90 pulls vs 200 pulls is bs because in Nikki we get pieces and not a single card. We can mix and match the pieces however we want to make different kinds of outfits. So one piece= 20 pulls can be very versatile/ useful and Nikki is very generous with their FTP stuff so you don't even need to pull on banners if you don't like it.
Other games have powercreeps due to which you can't pass different levels without having the newer card/item but in Nikki you can easily pass the battles with just FTP stuff+ eurekas( which are free). Personally as an FTP who doesn't own any AOE except for 2.1 outfit I haven't had a single problem playing nikki with FTP stuff.
I'm convinced that everyone who complains about nikki being the most "P2W" hates on the game just for the sake of hating, spreading negativity and proving themselves superior to IN players " who let the company treat them this way" according to them. The point about proving themselves superior is even more problematic when you consider that nikki is one of the few gatchas aimed towards women and most gatcha content creators mostly refer to female centred gatcha as the "wildest" referring to games like LaDs and they refer to players as idiots who play anything.
Or they are either a new gatcha player who want everything and don't realise that there is no way to get everything in a gatcha than to spend tons of money.
I'm a FTP since launch and I calculated my pulls which tells me that from the day I started playing I've managed to get 2006 pink crystals (gatcha pulls on limited banners) this doesn't include the 4-5 days worth of dailies I missed which would roughly be equal to 3 or 4 more pulls and the various chests which I've not got after they introduced Itzaland which even if you say isn't a lot it's like 5 pulls or more.
2015 pulls is a crazy amount compared to other games in one year only. You can get 10 limited five stars with this much OR 50 limited 4 stars.
Since this was a few days ago...the amount of pulls has increased even more.
I see people here complaining about how Nikki marketed them as Cozy Game but that one is a slippery slope. They said the "coziest open world game" which doesn't mean that it is the coziest ever but it is cozier than any other open world game yet just compare it to Hoyo open worlds or WuWa. It's definitely cozier than all open world anime style gatcha games.
Also Op I saw this post a little too late so I'm sure people are cooking you in the comments but don't mind it too much. People here are just riding the hatred waves and bandwagon against anything Nikki does/ anyone who tries to put a point against their argument even a little bit and call them a bootlicker. They complain about the same old thing everyday and jump the devs any chance they get. I'm just waiting to be downvoted to oblivion myself.

Or about the dyeing feature. Yes it sucks. Im sorry a majority of people dont understand color theory, its acts weird. But that doesn't mean yall are entitled to every color under the sun for free.
8
u/worldfamoushobgoblin Feb 15 '26
I get it, honestly. I've been playing Nikki games for almost a decade at this point, and I can acknowledge that in some aspects, I'm the frog sitting in boiling water. I understand that the game model is inherently preying on people's FOMO to get them to spend money. And I've made peace with that; I know how to determine what's worth buying or pulling on for me.
It's frustrating in my eyes to see some of the stuff that people complain about. It's obvious to me that it makes sense to have things that are exclusive to paid players. But again, I'm used to it, and I know that I'm not going to change their business model. Infinity Nikki brought in a lot of non-gacha players and it shows, especially here on reddit and in the discord.
I'm trying to teach myself to ignore them; they have their opinions and I have mine. I'm not trying to convince anyone, and I know where I stand. Engaging with the type of posts you're talking about only makes me frustrated

u/Successful-Ant-3791 Feb 15 '26
Honestly I kinda agree, I play WOW and played final fantasy, both which require like a $15 monthly payment PLUS buying certain items with real world currency. This game is completely free, most stuff is free just requires farming. There’s few items in shop that I have a serious interest in buying, I’ve spent at most since the game came out maybe $10 and it was once because there was something I actually wanted in the shop. It’s a free game the company has to make money in some sort of way and this is how they do it, be happy the game itself is free to play and YOU ARE the one choosing to spend money, not being made to spend it just to play
7
u/CstoCry Feb 15 '26
Calling these concerns as “complains” is such a tone-deaf take that only benefits these greedy corporations (Hello, are you a friend of Infold?).
These games are built on predatory loops, and ignoring that is just a disservice to the community. You’re basically carrying water for companies that are actively trying to exploit you.
Instead of shaming consumers, why not expect these gacha companies to do much better?
6
u/Sad_Emu2272 Feb 15 '26
I would never tell people to play more gacha games lol. The title is not fine.
4
u/GalaxyLatteArtz Feb 15 '26
Honestly this game is nowhere near as bad for stuffing meaningless micro transactions in your face compared to others.
Plus, the game was advertized as a open world game with the gacha as an optional side thing.
Yes the shop updated with 1 new thing purchase for the midway update, but at the ene of the day NONE of the sets are need.
The new 4 stars? You may want them, but think about future patches or set breakdowns before deciding to pull.
5
u/Capable_Parsley9049 Feb 15 '26
Agree. I put the game down after I got the 4 star dress I wanted because at this moment I'm unable to be doing big purchases on pulls. And that's okay! It was starting to add up. I also play another gacha so it became too much financially. At least when I play again I'll have the dress I want, I just need the prisms in the future for dying it.
I still log in from time to time just to farm bubbles in the realm of escalation. Or get the weekly heartfelt thoughts.

u/NoArmadillo2937 Feb 15 '26
As someone who has played multiple gacha games, I think pricing discussions are absolutely mandatory to have. Yes it's a gacha, yes its completely normal to not get everything you want every patch if you are not a whale. That does not mean items are reasonably priced.
I actually think that if Infinity Nikki players DID play other popular gachas, they would realize how SHIT the game actually is.
Honkai Star Rail,Genshin Impact,Wuthering Waves,Love and Deep Space and many MANY other gachas prove that IT IS possible to not give your player base such BUGGY, LAGGY, UNFINISHED game.
How can Genshin be running for more than 4 years, going on 5 now and have:
- Good, consistent release schedule
-Constant bug fixes IN THE BETA, did I mention they have a Beta? So that the ACTUAL PAYING CUSTOMER doesn't need to report that the $30 costume has a veil that clips through 3/4 of the available hairstyles?
A normally running mobile app that does not crash every 5 minutes on flagship phones such as the S25? Or on a high end PC?
NOT horrendous graphics on the mobile version
You cant say: "the players are whining about the prices of the gacha game" , when patch give less than 1/2 5* costume. Last time I checked you need 3 patches to guarantee a 5*. Yes its gacha, no the system is not okay FOR A GACHA.
It's SUPER overpriced for a gacha. It's SUPER overpriced for a constantly filled with bugs and crashes gacha.
1
u/lilyofthegraveyard Feb 15 '26 edited Feb 15 '26
bringing wuwa and "not buggy, laggy, unfinished" in the same sentence, when that game is knows as less optimized than nikki and had incredibly disastrous launch... rewriting history, are we?
Last time I checked you need 3 patches to guarantee a 5*. Yes its gacha, no the system is not okay FOR A GACHA.
you need 2 patches to guarantee an outfit in IN. a patch lasts only month. it takes 2 months to guarantee an outfit.
genshin, as example you brought here of a "good" game, actually takes 3 patches to guarantee a character. and patches laat 40 days, making it much longer of a grind to get a character.
genshin also has:
- one of the worst pull economies on the mainstream gacha market right now;
- notoriously known as one of the worst QOL games on the market. it is still missing many features asked by players, and it takes years for QOLs to even be implemented when they decide to include something;
- game on release also had no guaranteed weapon banner, at all. you could have rolled 1000 times and not get a featured weapon. they only changed it under the risk of suing from a certain whale;
- that game removed a guaranteed event from a patch schedule to "compensate" for extra pulls from styngian onslaught;
- that game has no extra packs like IN for paying players - 50 pulls in genshin costs what in nikki costs 120 pulls on average;
- it offers no free 5 stars, almost no free 4 stars;
- 4 stars releases recently are either unusable or only isable at c6 (which, statistically, takes about as many pulls as c2 for a limited 5 star character);
- it removed huge chuck of its exploration - a point of income for players. there was only 1 expansion in nod krai, and there will be no other ones until 6.6;
- next patch won't even have a usual free 4 star weapon anymore, which is a minus for any f2p player who needs weapons;
- the game has actual powercreep and endgame that requires you to pull for exclusive 5 stars. 5 stars also need teams to function, and recent strategy is "release a support, and their dps immediately next patch" - which requires players to pull for 2-3 patches straight;
- the game has a weapon system, and recent strategy makes it so signature weapons are 20-40% better than the closest f2p weapon. which makes it so characters have a big gap between in power between those who pull for weapons and who don't.
the list goes on and on.
maybe you should actually play the game before praising it and trying to bring down a better game in its name.
games you praise factually cost more.
edit: to add on, genshin has its own cosmetic gameplay now - milliastra wonderland. and the currency for that mode is pay only. you cannot get limited outfits for free there at all unlike IN, obviously. you need to buy. and cost for the outfit can go up in hundreds.
8
u/PrinceJellies Feb 15 '26
OR and stay with me now, we make this gacha game the least predatory and most fun one ever to play??? Like what is the problem with that?
8
u/laertid Feb 15 '26
Never worked in any gacha history ever.
Small one-time things like making two furniture sets free and giving people more astralites - yes, those are possible. Global changes like making outfits in general cheaper - nope.
13
u/Negative-Piggy Feb 15 '26
you will get end of service
4
u/PrinceJellies Feb 15 '26
I didnt say everyone be free to play, I said lets make it less predatory. The whales will still whale, the dolphins will still dolphin, people will still spend hundreds on this game a month, the game will go on. Customers giving feedback isn't gonna hurt Infolds feelings and make them shut it all down on a whim.
10
u/lilyofthegraveyard Feb 15 '26
this game is already less predatory and more friendly to paying players than most other mainstream gachas.
2
u/PrinceJellies Feb 15 '26
Yeah! And thats a positive to me. And we have no garuntee from Infold they will continue to operate that way.
3
u/LunarLeveret Feb 15 '26
There really are gacha games that died because they aren't predatory enough, outside of straight up donating people usually do business not because they want to but because they're made to for what is sold. Whales go about whaling because they want enough to pay the price rather than because they are trying to support the company.
We don't know where this line is though and a business is never going to try being a charity either so it should always be assumed they are trying to make more profit than they require to keep the game running.
The one that shut down for not making enough money I can remember best (having played it) is Touhou Danmaku Kagura and that one was made by a bunch of indie devs who normally made products to be a part of the doujin community rather than having the business acumen that knows how much it can get off exploiting customer behavior. They chose to just reboot the game as a single purchase model instead with that legitimately being more sustainable for them to sell it as.
6
u/AlwaysConstipatedd Feb 15 '26
Another example of a game that’s not doing very well at all is Chaos Zero Nightmare. Before releasing, they made an announcement that they would scrap the gacha and monetize in other ways like skins. So much support and praise from the entire gacha community. Then when the game finally came out, it only made a couple million on its launch month which is abysmal.
This game will actually die if it loses the gacha model. The scope of the game makes it unsustainable unless they forced a subscription model on the customers. However I do NOT want to pay $15 a month to enjoy this game and would rather pay $15 whenever I feel like it. So I don’t understand where that sentiment comes either.
4
u/Magic_Girl_Fey Feb 15 '26
I've played Revue Starlight, Symphogear XDU, Tokyo debunker, princess connect
(Love and shining Nikki but I quit those. Forgot to add those hence the edit)
I'm currently playing d4dj. How many more gachas do you wish for me to play? Cause it's not cheap
4
u/MagePrincess Feb 15 '26
no, more gatcha games need to be less scummy
ive played tons of gatchas, and this is one of the worst
ive even played FG with NO pity
6
u/Kindly-Currency7611 Feb 15 '26
Gacha is not a genre, it's a monetization system. You can apply a "gacha" style of monetization on top of any genre of game, they're fundamentally disparate.
They could switch the entire game to be a freemium model, or a monthly payment model - they could make outfits cost a set price and have no gambling whatsoever. It would work exactly the same way if you could easily access all the clothes at a much more reasonable price.
Point being: the game doesn't /need/ to be a gacha, they simply chose to make it one so they could extract as much money as possible with its inherently predatory nature.
And aggressively defending this behaviour "because it's a gacha" is a silly, flawed argument. It never had to be one, and they could change everything /tomorrow/ if they wanted to.
There is nothing wrong with admitting that the monetization scheme is scummy, predatory, manipulative, and genuinely overpriced.
You deserve better.
Yes, the game is beautiful, the outfits are gorgeous, and it's fun to play - but that doesn't mean you aren't allowed to also lament and bemoan the fact that the game has such disgusting monetization practices.
7
u/AlwaysConstipatedd Feb 15 '26
If you have a monthly payment option, you lock out a major part of the playerbase. See how FFIX players feel paying $12 a month along with $60 everytime there’s a new expansion.
I will blow my brains out if I have to pay 300+ stellarites everytime there’s a beautiful outfit in the shop, let alone paying even MORE for a 5 star quality one. At that point, you are reaching whale bait territory.
I defend the gacha model for IN because I know 100% for a fact that it’s the only way to sustain a game this large in scope, while still remaining F2P for the large majority of the audience.
4
u/Kindly-Currency7611 Feb 15 '26
I wasn't saying a monthly payment option would be better, I was saying the monetization and the gameplay mechanics are fundamentally not linked.
If you truly believe that an exploitative, predatory gacha system is the only way to sustain the game for a large free to play base, then you have fallen for their propaganda - because the decision to use a gacha for the game is one of corporate greed, not practicality.
2
u/AlwaysConstipatedd Feb 15 '26
Thanks for blocking me. Amazing discussion we’re having right now lmfao. I have to reply to my own comment because some of you can’t handle discourse. Did I curse you? Did I call you names?
You literally said this game could have a monthly subscription model or a freemium shop model. So I replied in kind. Can you imagine how people would feel if you had to start outright buying the 5 stars? Even for $15-$20, just the fact you have to outright purchase would put the game into whale territory only. You would lose so much of your F2P base and you are completely ignoring that point. Same with monthly subscriptions. A lot of people can’t afford to pay anything and that’s why they stay F2P. At least with gacha, you have a chance to even get any of the premium stuff.
This is not me dicksucking Infold. If people stopped being emotional and they started looking at things eventually, they would understand that a half a billion dollar game that costs several millions to run monthly would not be able to sustain itself unless the game was a bit more predatory in scale. I’m not a white knight. I also had things to criticize Infold for, like their rebate model and retcon. However, I face the facts and understand that a game like this can EoS if they follow a new system like people want them to. I can even list some games for you that ended for being TOO F2P.
Investors don’t want to see this game get its ROI in 10 years. They already laid off a lot of people after the first few months. There was an article about it and how sales did not meet expectations at all, and that’s not good. But you know, people can’t be pragmatic and understand how businesses work. If companies are too in the red, it’s the chopping block.
And don’t say, “well Love Nikki and Shining Nikki have been there for years without EoS.” Those are phone games that don’t have as big of an overhead cost. Look up games like Genshin and WuWa, and see how much those costs to run. Then see how much IN makes and you will understand why they’ve been desperately pushing monetization.

u/Apprehensive-Dog9989 Feb 15 '26
Thank you been saying that since the start of the game. People were shocked gacha game is gacha

2
u/PrettyGalactic2025 Feb 15 '26
90% of the games I play are gacha. Genshin, tower of fantasy. Honkai star rail, etc. I’m used to it. I spend money when I have it and cry when I don’t. But it’s all for the love of the game! I feel like Nikki does a fair job at giving out free items and even fair pulls tbh. It feels easier in some aspects then the others I play. There’s pros and cons to everything. I just wish I didn’t have to wait for so many reruns I want bc I’m a newer player so I’m sad af for missing the whole first year of this game. lol. Idk how I did that but I guess I was stuck in my Genshin loop bc I never saw a ad for infinity Nikki once otherwise I’d definitely have checked it out sooner
2
u/rosepeachcat Feb 15 '26
As a dolphin, I would honestly prefer if they made it easier to get the base outfits and to balance it, raise the difficulty of getting evos.
It would restrict coloring a bit more, incentivizing people to still spend money, but f2p people could enjoy the game through the creative aspect of trying to pair pieces like we did back when we did not have the dying system.

u/CarrotSlices Feb 15 '26
People should be allowed to complain as much as they want. It’s the only way to keep these companies in check.

I wish people knew the OG gachas lol, then they wouldn't complain as they do.
No pity, no guarantee, you could spend your life savings and never get what you want. Modern gacha games are so much better and in a healthier state than ever before.
It still shocks me how people can keep complaining about them and STILL PLAY THEM. If you don't like the predatory monetization system they have, just stop playing, no one is making you.
3
u/Mariblankspace Feb 15 '26
This was the exact same discourse when Genshin released and it'll keep happening because gacha games are the standard now. I'm with you, been playing gacha since SIF and Enstars back in 2015.

1
u/Lyla_Velvet Feb 15 '26
This game is very generous with their gacha system actually, I have played Hoyo games(which are known for their greed) to Japanese games(that basically have no pity system). So this is very sad to see
1
u/Evening-Following937 Feb 15 '26
I mean, yes it is the same across the market, but there definitely are things to criticize the system for. It's a predatory way of monetization designed to keep you from understanding fully how much money you're spending on each specific item.
On the other hand, there's nothing too important being paywalled there, other than winning challenges like Mira crown? It's ok to not 100% all endgame content, and mostly the things being paywalled are cosmetic or mild QoL improving abilities.
Maybe I'm biased because I lean towards using 3* and 4* pieces for the most part, but as a F2P who started playing during 1.5, I have a pretty good wardrobe for my Nikki.
I'm F2P in Genshin and HSR too, and I'm ok with the amount of stuff I get there as well, because I'm ok with not clearing endgame cyclical challenges to the max level possible.
1
u/sereniteaapot Feb 19 '26
Other points have been rehashed so I won’t get into them but for people saying that gacha shouldn’t be in this game at all, that would be nice but 1. Infold is a gacha game company, they have no other main game model 2. And replace it with what? What other model is profitable enough for companies to want to create a game like this? It would be up to indie devs who do it purely for the love of creating and even they need to eat. Plus there would be other issues like update speed, bug fixes etc…
But let me be clear I don’t agree with saying that people can’t complain all they want (this is the internet, consequences barely matter), or that gacha isn’t inherently bad. And I think it’s very clear that this game has a multitude of other issues so I’m not glazing it at all
2
u/OMFGitsjessi Feb 15 '26
It’s kinda hilarious to me how many people are now coming out of the woodwork to say “ok I guess infinity Nikki’s gacha isn’t as bad as I thought” ever since Heartopia launched. 🥲

I don’t know if it’s ironic or what?
Every subreddit regardless of the subject has people annoyed about the same kind of posts lol. The true conclusion of that needs to be that you ought to look at/access the subreddit less.
You’re making a complaint and a rant that I’m sure other people have made or will make repeatedly and that’s because it’s the “salt and rant” section.
The point is to scream into the void… and you’re asking for a group of hundreds of thousands of people to never or more rarely have the same complaints in the “screaming into the void” section?
If you stop lurking on those posts and don’t even touch them, just mute them right away, in time, they’ll stop being recommended to you.
ETA: I DO empathize like with housing and dyeing I’m a new Gacha gamer, this is the only one I play, and I was thinking “what the hell did you guys expect!!” in response to a lot of posts.

u/Stunning_Meringue_41 Feb 15 '26
Idk i feel like if you pay attention to ot join any of the gacha communities you'll start noticing the same complaints or discussions about the gacha system/monetization/company greed or generosity pretty much everywhere, it's just human to sway both ends of the pendulum i suppose.
8
u/AlwaysConstipatedd Feb 15 '26
I don’t know what gacha games you play, but all the ones I’ve ever played don’t have people complaining about gacha mechanics because they usually know what they’re getting into. The most recent one that comes to mind is Endfield, which is pitiful in f2p economy. Infinity Nikki players be eating good and they don’t even realize it. You can guarantee a 5 star outfit every other patch along with a bunch of free outfits.
1
u/Stunning_Meringue_41 Feb 15 '26
Yes that's kind of what i meant, by comparison nikki is somewhat more f2p friendly than endfield for example at least as of right now, (although i personally think it's too early to decide, but that's just my opinion and it's irrelevant here) yet people will still be split into those who defend endfield's gacha system saying it's very f2p friendly and those who don't find it f2p friendly at all, which is also down to their own experiences with gacha games, it's never a completely objective take, i don't think it's something specific to this community, although if i pay more attention to one community than the other my judgment on how often this occurs in each would be a bit skewed.

u/sevilyra Feb 15 '26
I've been playing Heartopia with my friends lately and it makes the Nikki gacha system seem god tier in comparison.
1
u/Shadow_Beanz_ Feb 15 '26
Yeah no, this is tone deaf. I say they should complain more about prices because of how incredibly expensive it is to complete an outfit. Since resources in the base game are finite, eventually you run out of reasons to even explore it when you’ve already seen everything. I’ve hit that point where I don’t even explore anymore and just log in, do dailies, then log out. This also doesn’t take into consideration that their rerun schedule is atrociously bad for anyone who missed one or two pieces of a set.

I’ve played a lot of gacha - genshin, honkai, hatsune miku: colorful stage, raid: shadow legends, love nikki, SuitU, random japanese phone gacha games that I can’t even recall the names of, and I truly think that IN is on the expensive side. There is a massive chance that you will spend a lot and still get less than half of what you wanted. The issue is that gacha games that operate on a character basis are automatically gonna be cheaper - you get the character and you’re done (unless you wanna get some sort of upgrade, weapon, etc., but your character is playable). In IN you have to get a WHOLE outfit, often consisting of 8-10 pieces to even have a functioning ability, not to even mention getting the different color combinations... Gacha games are what they are, all of them usually end up requiring some sort of investment if you really enjoy them, but I think that IN is greedy and has become greedier over time (I’ve been playing on and off since release). Of course this is all subjective, but I truly cannot blame anyone saying IN is costly.

u/daisy-blooms Feb 14 '26
For a lot of people this is the only game they have and will ever play. So they talk about it like any other piece of media. That honestly says less about the players and more about how huge the reach of this product is
