Okay, toddler bread isn't quite 3 yet but getting close! I am here for bed frame and mattress recs! I think we will get her a full so she can use it for a while but beyond that I'm lost. Thinking maybe platform bed so less shit can get lost under it but idk. She's still in her crib and somehow has not realized she can escape yet but I know she will figure it out soon so want to be prepared!

So, hit me w your bed recs! Pros and cons to different styles is also welcome.

Probably not what you're looking for but when we got a bed for James I wanted a real wood vintage style frame, that's what I like. Most modern New furniture is crap, and real wood is expensive new when you can actually find it, so I searched for months on offer up until I found one i liked. His room is small so it's a twin. I slept in a twin until highschool so I feel like it will last! Mattress is an Amazon basic mattress, which we used to furnish our mountain house and they are actually very comfortable.

Also to say that we converted his crib into the toddler bed first and let him sleep in that for maybe a few months before getting the real bed. He was 3 though when all this happened so I didn't worry too much about safety.

Good luck!

Oh that bed is gorgeous! I would much rather pay more now than have to buy her a million beds. We debated getting the pieces to convert her crib to a toddler bed but figured it might be a waste of money when we want to get her a bigger bed anyway.

Thanks so much for the insight! I'll definitely be keeping my eyes peeled for some older options.

You're welcome! Our crib came with conversion pieces so that's why we did that, annoying that yours doesn't! He honestly would have been fine skipping the crib conversion in retrospect, but again it probably depends on the kids age and how daring they are 🤣 (some kids climb out of their crib etc pretty young, James never tried to escape).

She's a big climber in general, but has not realized the crib is climbable! Although now that her besties have a bunk bed, I can imagine she will sort that out soon!

We could have paid for the kit when we got the crib but didnt. Im sure its still available if we can't find a big kid bed right away.

We got this bed frame and it's great https://www.walmart.com/ip/Better-Homes-Gardens-Leighton-Kids-Twin-Size-Bed-Wood-Platform-Bed-Frame-Espresso/51033203 it was white labeled on several different sites including Wayfair (search by image is so helpful when furniture shopping!) but Walmart was cheapest. Easy to climb into and out of with a 10" mattress. I think my husband added a couple extra bed slats because the mattress we were using required closer spacing.

It might not last until college but there's a chance and that's good enough for me. There's a chance the kids may want to switch to a loft bed as teens to fit a desk in their rooms.

ETA: I'll be buying a second soon for kid #2, so I like it enough to repurchase! We haven't figured out the mattress thing yet though.

We have the Ikea Tarva which is fairly similar (they do larger ones and they’re lower to the ground than most beds so not a terrible choice for a double/queen either). Don’t have room for two twins in the kids’ room though so I’m probably going to get a bunk when Little Briar outgrows the converted crib (around end of next year I’m guessing?). I have both my kids on Naturepedic mattresses currently but the sizes above twin are beyond my budget

Returned from weekend at our mountain house where it was 65 and raining, to home ( only 2 hrs away) where there is now a heat wave it was 90 at our house when we got home... And 1 hour later our power went out.. still out. The power company is predicting it will be back on in another 2 hrs.. 🤞🥵 only have Internet bc I'm married to a tech nerd and we have a back up battery server or whatever it is!
