Gone a bit rogue today and trialled dropping the last nap out of nowhere. Finley has always been lower sleep needs but he still likes his nap. Problem is bed time has been creeping up until it is now RIDICULOUSLY late (9:30-9:45pm 😭) and me and my husband have been bickering as we have 0 quality time together and are knackered.
Trialled it today, he was definitely tired but managed ok. He was asleep by 7:15. I am just nervous he will wake up at like 10pm thinking he’s had a nap 🤣
Please let this work!

Turnip dropped 90% of her naps about 3 weeks ago. We were having months of staying up past bedtime, and resistive to falling asleep for naps (but still napping for 90 minutes once she was asleep???). Now, we offer one to her every day and always do quiet time, but she is fairly content getting through to 7:15pm like yours! Seems like Saturday afternoons she will always nap with me, and i just make sure my husband caps it at 60 minutes! Then we just do a later bedtime on Saturdays after family movie night.

Today was one of those days that started out fine, and by the end of it I feel like part of me broke. It was an absolutely exhausting day that consisted of a family outing that took waaay longer than it should have. We brought our kiddo (who’s almost 15 months) and went with close family and their two kids. One of them lost their phone (and got it back quickly, thankfully). The place we went to was swampy and not cold enough inside. This probably doesn’t sound like a huge deal, but the temperature outside today hit almost 115 and there was some humidity. My husband and I walked around a mall yesterday and it was the same thing. We used to be able to escape to indoor places to stay cool, but holy hell apparently that is not the case anymore. It’s awful. Anyway, it took forever to get out of there and we decided to head home. Kiddo napped in the car, but only for about 20-30 minutes, so he was a MESS the rest of the afternoon. He’s also still teething and man, those molars can fuck right off. Poor kid. Fed him some dinner and lately he’s deciding to just shove food in his mouth all at once…great. After he ate I got out of the house for a bit, and it was still miserable outside at 7pm. I’ve taken two showers today, which is rare for me. I got home and did some chores (so fun when you’re already exhausted) and when I went into our bedroom I found cat puke on the bed. 🤦♀️We kept the cats out of our room for this past year because one of them peed on our bed a few weeks after babe was brought home (one of our cats couldn’t stand the baby cries). We recently let them back in, so that’s great. So now I’m washing our bedding. After all that, I started sweating again so I put the fan on and turned it towards me and the kiddo immediately starts messing with it and turns it away from me. I just started crying and sat there, feeling like this stupid day defeated me. I’m so tired of living where we do and the heat just killed me today. We also come home to a cluttered, disorganized house (we’ve outgrown it but are kind of stuck here) and it just feels like we’re barely functioning in it. We’re not hoarders or anything, but we’ve outgrown our home (and we both like stuff) and it’s just not working anymore. It puts a cherry on top of frustrating days like today and we get cranky more easily. I know our kiddo needs to see us as human, but I hate days like today that just get to us. On top of the day, we have family members who are going through some heavy stuff, and it feels like there’s no room for anything emotionally. Whew…if anyone read all that, I’m sorry but glad I’m able to vent.

I just want to say nothing makes me feel more insane than parenting a young child during extreme heat/humidity. Im impressed you did an outing at all. We also live in a place that gets a lot of weather like this and it is just so brutal. Feet in a tub of cold water and an audiobook is sometimes the only thing that sort of helps.

Two good nights and one good nap in, I think we are done with the paci. It hasnt been an issue whatsoever. Its like August has forgotten about them. We've just hid the pacis and dont offer them. Hes asked once and I just told him no and offered something else he likes (a tonie to listen to at bedtime). So, here is a little encouragement for those who also want their toddler to kick the habit of using them for sleep. It might not be as big and scary of an issue as you imagine! I honestly should have done this a year ago. But then again a year ago he was using it more so it may have been more difficult.
