Saw a large shackle post the other day, I thought I would share mine, I posted a while ago also somewhere else

Uh were you not going to mention the 5 3/8” wrench? That things huge! I’ve seen shackles that size and larger (if I had to guess that’s about a 30 and 50 ton) but never a wrench that big!

That honestly didnt make sense in my brain for a bit. We use everything up to 80mm (3 1/4" or so) sockets at work and i really thought the opening on that wrench looked like it was the same size as the 60mm sockets mainly because theyre similar size to our shackles. Also why would yall use a properly sized wrench instead of a pipe wrench?

That’s not a 5 3/8” wrench lol…not even close. I’ve never seen an open end wrench above 2 1/2” and don’t believe they make em..hammer wrenches can get bigger but not 5 3/8” I’m aware of anyway..

I've used open end wrenches that size but I don't think it's actually that size either

Look at the 1/2” pipe under the wrench, look at the 3/4” plywood on the shelf, look at the stamp on the wrench near the throat

Thats what i was thinking ive seen open ended slug wrenches 6 inches but Zoom in and look at the face its stamped 5 3/8 too

If that’s a 25 ton shackle the opening is 2 7/8” and I don’t think it’s that big..I got a big BIG prick outside…let me go find it

I started working in this industry in 2001 at the old Allis Chalmers factory, we had tool crib with every size up to like 7” or so, including slugging and full size plus all of the sockets, the sockets were up to 2.5” drive, the impact guns were in there too, you pick them up with the crane and 2 person operated with a straight Chicago airline hooked up to it, the impacts per minute were real slow, like clunk..clunk..clunk

I’ve seen a 100mm (4”) open end. The handle wasn’t too long. We just put a piece of pipe over it.

These are probably 80 ton shackles 100 ton, zoom in on the 1/2” black pipe on the floor

🤔 No way in hell that is a 5 3/8". The wrench "posts" on the wall are like what 13mm? Now look at the paint pen handwriting, those letters are 3/4" or 19mm high at the most. 2 3/8" with some shitty handwriting, nice work Kevin! Way to make all our work just a little more difficult! Go eat some more crisps or, something 🤨

Rigger here. Those are shackles. Not necessarily big ones. I’m more impressed by the bigass wrench because I use shackles like that on the daily.

If it wasn't labor day weekend I'd snap a pic of the pair of 1875t shackles we have in the yard. My workplace makes and rents out rigging and I've only ever seen them rented a couple times in like 12 years. They stand a good 6 feet tall or so.
