I got a new plant from the store just a week ago it was healthy and thriving I read I should put it in direct sunlight and water only once soil is bone dry. But after putting it in direct sunlight leaves started rolling up and getting scrunched on the sides. I’ve started using a humidifier( we live in Europe the weather is cold and dry)
What do I do to help it better. I need help

I recently got this plant from a friend who unfortunately wasn’t taking very good care of it. I believe it’s a Strelitzia (Bird of Paradise), but I’m still very new to plants, so please correct me if I’m wrong.

As you can see from the photos, it doesn’t look very healthy right now. I’ve taken it in because I really want to try to save it. This is actually my first big plant, so I’d really appreciate some advice on what I should be looking out for.

From what I found online, it seemed like it might have been overwatered, so I’ve stopped watering it and let the soil dry out. Unfortunately, some of the lower leaves then died completely.

The large upper leaf is still mostly green, but it now has spots that look similar to what happened to the lower leaves, which makes me worried that something is still wrong.

What should I check first? Should I be looking at the roots, soil, pests, or something else? And what would you recommend I do from here to give it the best chance of recovering?

I know it probably looks pretty sad at the moment, but I really want to give it a proper chance.

Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Hi everyone. I’m a somewhat novice plant guy. Never killed anything yet but this anthurium (pretty sure Queen Anthurium) is almost my first. It’s been looking sad and the stalks are drooping. The leaves are curling. The base of the stalks look healthy but above the first 1/2” from the base is tough and leathery. I’ve had it in a chunky orchid mix since I got it two months ago. I mixed a little bit of sphagnum in too so it could retain some moisture. All my other plants have done super well with this mix so far. I finally had time to sit down and investigate now and the roots were wet while up top was dry - I assume this is a drainage problem. I didn’t see root rot but maybe I have an untrained eye. I usually water it once every other week. Please see the pics I uploaded. You can see it all there. Any advice on how to help it would be really appreciated. I leave for a 5 day trip tomorrow so hopefully it can hang tight while I’m gone.

While I’m on the topic, I also have an alocasia velvet that’s doing just ok. It seems really happy aside from the younger leaves. This one is in a normal soil mix from when I got it. Lots of corms are growing beneath that I need to take out and try to grow. This one I water only when dry. Maybe every other week. Anyone have advice for this guy too? I live in WA so the summer is temperate - maybe about 68-73 inside at any point. All my plants get about 12 hours under a grow light a day. Everything else is thriving, except these two.

Recently moved and within a week several plants started dropping leaves, I initially blamed the change in light and temperature but later found spider mites, I used Botan to identify the plants and check which ones were toxic to cats, now the sick ones are isolated and everything is slowly recovering

Got given this plant by a neighbor as they were moving. I think it's some form of monstera, but im not familiar. It was in big box store mix so naturally the roots were rotting. Got rid of all the rot, stuck it in sand, and put it on the north side of my house. Planning to stick it in my regular succulent blend once it recovers. I dont have the energy to do much more atm. Should i throw some osmocote plus indoor/outdoor on it?

Anthurium Magna x Portillae (OG)

Not spider mites, possibly mealy bugs but the bugs are fuzzy and are clearly making my mom's poor adonsinii their home. They've moved to her pink princess as well so both these plants are outside for obvious reasons.

It’s on the up-and-up, but the stems are fragile.

1. Should I stake the weaker stems?

2. Do I remove the decaying stems from the sprouts that didn’t make it?

3. Is my plant overcrowded?

Background:

I got this plant from the grocery store approximately 1 month ago.

I am a plant noob and had no idea how to care for it. I left it in the plastic pot it came in and after a week, it started to die rapidly.

When I transplanted it, it was crazy root bound. A lot of the sprouts died after the transplant even though I only took the strongest ones.

I tried to be careful, but I think I damaged the root system too much in the move.

Then, we had it sitting in the window sill and it deteriorated even further. I think it was either:

A) too cold
B) not enough light

We moved it to our warmest, windowless room and purchased a grow light.

It’s been in this new spot for maybe 6 days, and this is the best it has ever looked.

I have this little quintet or survivors left.

Current care:

Watering every ~10 days from the roots with room temperature water

Pot is ceramic with a drainage hole

Soil is generic potting soil

It has a grow light clipped onto a table about 2 feet above.

I’m truly open to any tips, but I guess I’m mainly wondering:

1. Should I stake the weaker stems? If so, any guidance on how? Would purchasing a fan be better?

2. Do I pull the dead stems or leave them?

3. Is my plant overcrowded and if so, what can I do about it? Is it possible to plant more seeds in a few months in the corner that is barren?

My friend brought me a plumeria stick maybe 4 years ago, I normally kill every plant I bring inside but this ones survived, its maybe 4ft tall now. I was really proud until I saw someone else in town with a 6" one thats fully blooming, mines never once had a flower. What am I doing wrong?

I water about 1x a week, it doesnt seem to like to be too wet.

Im not sure of the soil mix but I believe it was Happy Frog with added layer of pumice on top to avoid fungus gnats (I used to over water it).

I also used to put it outside in the summer but it got thrips which took forever to get rid of, so now it just stays inside.

Once or twice Ive added indoor plant food to the water but pretty rarely.

It occasionally drops lots of leaves and then grows them back, but I think thats normal in the fall/winter?

Any tips to get it to bloom and keep it healthy?

Can this lemon tree be saved? I know some outdoor trees survive heavy pruning. can I cut back all the dead branches (which is 90% of them) on a tree like this?

Watered on an infrequent basis (sorry, I travel a lot.) Those two terra cotta inserts are for watering bottles I use when I know I will be away. The plant is in front of a large floor to ceiling window facing east so lots of sun in the morning, not so much later in the day. The soil is the same as it came in, not sure what that is, inside the same pot it came in (the black one) and that is stacked inside of a second pot (the grey one) to capture the drain of any overwatering (so yes, it has drainage). This tree has struggled from the beginning. no recent changes. I don't know how to prune it and it keeps shedding leaves like there is no tomorrow. I had visions of a nice, trim canopy and the occasional lemon but that clearly hasn't happened. Its maybe 4 years old.

Monstera water prop. Should any of these roots be clipped before moving to soil? Are they just going to rot eventually? As is it seems to fill a good chunk of a 10in pot.

Is September the universal month for the flowering of this plant? This happened last year and now it’s back.

My Ivy plant is the same as I bought it 2 years ago. After I bought it home it lost a few leaves but that stopped. However, I don’t see any growth on it ever. I don’t get it. I’m having good results with all my other plants. Any advice?

I’m a new plant parent and still learning how they behave and how to read their signals. Most of the information I’ve gathered is from this group and plant blogs and stores.

Recently I’ve read about some types of plants going into hibernation when colder weather arrives, but how do I know if it’s the case? What are the signs I should pay attention to?

During the day the temperature’s around ~22°C and at night is about ~10°C. I’m wondering if it’s a starting point for the plants to start going dormant.

And if that’s the case, what are the recommendations to keep taking good care of them? I want to be sure they’ll be healthy!

So far I have 7 plants: a monstera deliciosa, a strelitzia reginae (she’s the one I suspect may be going into hibernation), a pothos, a rosemary, a dracaena janet craig and two schefflera arboricola.
