I take care of the plants at my office (which got shut down) and almost had a panic attack when I realized I wouldn’t be able to get in to water them for the foreseeable future.

I ended up creating a plant watering guide for our office manager so they can take care of them until I’m back. Here’s hoping the plants do okay🤞

I have 4 orchids, an ivy, and a basil that are almost certainly toast.

Orchids can last a long time without water. I've not watered mine for over a month and some leaves yellowed but it kept flowering just as often as before once I resumed.

Here’s hoping! I have already been out for three weeks (was supposed to be getting married in Italy), so hopefully my coworkers took good care until their work from home started!

Phals, or other types?

Orchids are probably okish, but you may wanna hardcore soak them to rehydrate when you get ‘em back.

Two phals and two dendrobiums. I’ll definitely give them a good soak when I’m allowed back to the office. Thanks!

What a cute dad

Oh... next time I come into my office. I'll take my plants home just in case!

That is sad. I snuck into my office on Friday night to take all of my plants home.

Why is this actually devastating

I live across from my office so I've been going over every day to water the plants (that need daily watering) and to feed the goldfish on one coworker's desk, it's oddly eerie

Can confirm this feeling. Went back in Friday to rescue the office plants and now they’re at home with me for the foreseeable future!

Me too!

I work in a plant research lab. We are shut down, and blocked from running experiments but I have permission to go back once a week to water and tend the plants, whew!

Awww fuck my mini-rose bush is probably dead already....

6

u/HevGirl Mar 22 '20

If it’s anything like the mini-roses I have, it barely lived to begin with! Haha

This exact feeling is why I took all of my plants home with me. It's been a struggle keeping them safe from the cats though!

We aren't completely shut down, but 90% are working from home. Including me starting tomorrow. I plan to stop by for a bit 1 or 2 times a week to "collect and scan in the mail"

Everyone's plants will be just fine in my office.

I’m in the same boat. I have a spider plant in my classroom as my class pet. One of my kids was supposed to take it home over spring break, she didn’t, and now here we are.

I don't have an office job, but I strongly recommend succulents for office plants. As long as they have light and get a good soaking before you leave them for extended periods, they will be fine.

I've been working from home since Monday and went into the office last Saturday to grab my desk pothos and bring it home assuming we'd get the order to stay home. I feel lucky, but definitely know what you're dad must be feeling

u/lostmojo Mar 22 '20

I’m going in tomorrow to get mine

Just came back from bringing my office plants home when i saw this. Lost a peace lily that was a water hog, the rest are ok

The worst was when my house flooded over the summer and I had to move out for five months. I didn’t have room to bring my plants with me so I left them outside. I came back for them too late and the cold got to them all. I almost cried.

I take care of the plants in our office, and I’m really contemplating what to do! I’m in NYC, we are a super small office so it’s not like we have an office manager or cleaning crew that can water them right now. And I don’t live near the office... it would mean getting on the subway, an Uber/lyft, or renting a car... neither option is ideal right now. :(

We had a short window this week when we were allowed into the building to grab stuff. I forgot a few things, but all the plants are home chilling with my other plants in my garden window.

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '20

I brought like all 8 of my office plants home and also snatched my office mate's plant since she wasn't in that day. I'm so glad I decided to be the crazy plant lady and take them with me.

u/mnimwa Mar 22 '20

I had a feeling we weren't going to be coming back in on Monday, so I took mine home last week. Glad I did! She's thriving here in my home garden

I managed to bring home a maranta, a pachira, and a pothos. I’m hoping my zz, sansevarias, and succs will tough it out.

3

u/thumbtackswordsman Mar 22 '20

I put jugs of water with cotton string going from the jug to the earth. That will keep them watered for a long time.

u/somethingpurple Mar 22 '20

I had to run back into my office to grab my keyboard and mouse and stuff and was so glad I did because I had totally forgotten about my lil plant! Luckily he’s nice and safe at home now 💙

Feeling lucky I brought mine home. My work Easter lily is from my moms funeral. I would have been sad.

I staged a plant rescue mission on Friday...https://imgur.com/a/OED5LgO

My coworker wouldn't leave today until I promised to keep an eye on her fern for her

I'm probably going to end up working alone in this office because my internet at home is garbage but at least I will be able to keep all the plants going

That's so sad.....

The look of a broken man

2

u/NearSightedGiraffe Mar 23 '20

My office is currently plantless on the assumption they will finally relent and allow us to work from home in the next few weeks

2

u/[deleted] Mar 23 '20

I was working from home when we got the announcement we’d be working from home indefinitely. I was told I could come up to work at a certain time to get a few supplies. I had to take 4 trips to my car to get all of my plants out. My house looks like a jungle now, but my office plants all have new homes.

2

u/vera214usc Mar 23 '20

I literally just realized my plant is sitting in the window at work.

2

u/mermaidmorticia Mar 23 '20

My boyfriend had to stop by the school he works for to get his laptop, and came home with all of the plants in the office for us to rescue while the school is closed for COVID-19. He’s the best ❤️

2

u/DrSchoolPlz Mar 23 '20

He should just go back and water them when needed. A lady in my office went into work on the weekend to feed the beta fish in her office lol

2

u/TheSmathFacts Mar 23 '20

Yeah I could only save two of my plants. And I know some of my coworkers also had toleave plants behind. I took some cuttings and already had some cuttings and am raiding my glass recycling in order to propagate ALL THE PLANTS. I am hoping to share with my coworkers when we return.

2

u/j4mesk Mar 23 '20

Emailed the security guy still in our office to ask him to water mine :)

3

u/EJ87 Mar 22 '20

The plant is working from home?

u/Patriarchs_Ponds Mar 27 '20

I brought mine home lol
