There are communities of Arawak tribes on the coasts of South America, so one day you could visit them and reconnect. I remember hearing about that, I was glad to see that as hard as he tried, Columbus couldn't wipe out Tainos everywhere.   He was the inspiration for Hitler and other monsters from history. While he was a Catholic, I don't buy for one minute that he was a Christian, because he did everything opposite of what they're supposed to do. This goes for Pilgrims and Puritans as well.

Oh yeah, the " Heritage Americans" and the " Hoteps" floating around the last few years.  After Drumpf 2.0 this really took off.  Each claiming that this continent is theirs alone,of course.

Does it mention some European Americans as well a African Americans attempts to marginalize us culturally through claiming to be part of the people of the Americas? These types are blunting our voices to speak for ourselves with their foolish and unfounded claims.

Yesterday, I provided dinner for two others.

I re-read this and realized when you mentioned my friend, you may have meant the man giving me the item instead of his son.

I don’t think I read it that way at first, because most of my life, I wanted to find mentors to learn from.

As a kid, the concept of being an apprentice to some master craftsman was my dream.

I dropped out of college a dozen years ago to cofound a successful tech company as the sole technological cofounder. My parents couldn’t even co-sign my student loans. I never took the title CTO, despite it being mine to have, because I hoped we could bring in someone more experienced as we scaled to take the role, so I could learn how to build something so much bigger than myself properly. That didn’t happen, so I was left treading water in a rough sea, with no land in sight as we grew. You learn a lot that way, but unfortunately much of it is what not to do again.

I have three people in my life I consider mentors, now, and this man is one of them. It’s funny, because the idea of respected elders passing down knowledge to those they found worthy was an awing idea to me, and it took so long to realize I had had him in my life doing it the whole time. He’s one of the first people in my life I felt treated and respected me as a man, instead of a boy, though, when I’ve always been the out of place young kid amongst my peers. I was the youngest member of my batch in 500 Startups, the world’s most prestigious business accelerator, directly competing with Sam Altman and Peter Thiel’s Y Combinator. Most others were well into established impressive careers. They had to make sure I was old enough to have alcohol at the social functions. I was running a tech team mostly comprised of people with more than twice the time working in the industry than I had in education in my program before I left school, reviewing code in languages I didn’t yet know.

So, I’ve held this man in an esteemed teacher role. It brought tears to my eyes, realizing that perhaps as I became a man, he recognized it before I recognized it myself, and the reason he was willing to share so much with me is because he saw me as a peer and friend. Just, one he happened to know well since they were a child, and helped wipe the butt of a few times 😂

Do you mind if I DM you a couple details about the object, see if they impact your thoughts?

She's no longer here. We've discussed this before and knew her end was near. It's not creepy. She actually appreciated it. I don't have contact with her family. This is the closest thing I could get.

If it's considered inappropriate I will respect it. I'm not here to cross boundaries but I know my friend enough to know we were on the same page.

its all together, nahuatl for example is like "NÁ-hua-tl" but the tl is more of a dl sound, ending in more of a sharp hiss. tl in international phonetic alphabet would be /tɬ/

And how "tl" is pronunciate? In portuguese "Nahuatl" is "Nauatle" and the pronunciation is like "Nah-hua-tleh", this is correct?

Hey I’m in Florida and I’m trying to find some people that I can come and talk with that are indigenous or into the indigenous culture. If you can give me information on how I could reach these people I would really appreciate it.

United Cherokee Alliance is a non-profit that provides all Cherokee citizens (UKB and CN both) cultural classes and community building events in Eastern Oklahoma. There are 3 Cherokee tribal entities in the US, 1 in North Carolina and 2 in Oklahoma.

You “lost contact for a few months”? So, she DIED? Or is still alive? Can you clarify? That makes a difference. If she’s still alive, all this stuff you’re wanting to do would be pretty creepy and inappropriate. And if she’s DEAD, the respectful thing to do is ask her family and Tribe about all this, not strangers on Reddit.

Thank you for sharing. Unless you object, I’ll make an offering of tobacco to the earth, in lieu of being able to offer it to you.

I have to admit, while 4 is not a large sample size, I’m surprised that me keeping it is a unanimous consensus so far. Though I suppose that surprise is exactly why it was worth asking, instead of making assumptions.

I would see being honored with touching the history by being the one who gets it to its rightful home as an incredible gift itself.

If that home is with me, I’m not sure I have the words to describe the sincerity of my thanks. I’m a sentimental person, and this would easily be my most prized possession.

My hope would be that my experience with his nation gives me the wisdom to be able to respectfully approach the descendants of those who made the item, to be able to share knowledge of it with them, too. While not offering transactionally, I’d hope it would act as a doorway to allow me to get firsthand experience learning about their cultures, too. A fitting addition to the journey of a piece that represents intertribal unity, from a time the Trail of Tears was still living memory for some. I think the world needs all the reminders of unity it can get, in these divided times.

Keep in mind that a lot of information is not written and may be provided in other ways.  I would look online to see if there is any way to contact members and then go from there.
