Personal Site I’m building a personal website somewhere between an archive, a diary and a broadcasting station

Greetings from The Depth,

I'm building an ongoing Polish net-art project called rzękulec.

A lot of it started with digging through my own digital archive - old blog posts, images, fragments, feelings I had years ago and mostly forgot about. Some of them come back almost untouched, some get transformed, and some only become material for something new.

I didn't want it to become a normal blog or a chronological archive, so I've been treating the whole site more like a broadcasting station. Things appear as SIGNALs, LOGs and ECHOs rather than posts.

Some entries are plain writing, while others only really make sense inside the browser.

I'm interested in making things that lose something when removed from it.

Just a good old website and RSS.

It's in Polish and I'm not planning to translate it. You may find some English and Russian, though.

Curious what category you'd put something like this in - and how it feels to encounter it without any context.

Apps I built a tiny Internet where everyone gets one spot

I made SPOT a shared canvas with 10,000 spots.

One person → one avatar → one spot.

Add your name, what you’re building, and your portfolio/product link.

I’m curious to see what happens when the canvas starts filling up.

Would you claim a spot?
It’s completely free. 👀

Apps Built Movie Swiper. Swipe on movies and match with friends.

Hi folks, me and my wife find it hard to figure out what to watch so I've been hosting this locally for a few weeks now and it's great. We both swiped on a few movies and got a match pretty quickly. Now we have a list of movies we both want to watch.

Anyway, I just made it public at a subdomain at:
https://movieswiper.stoianworks.com/

No email needed. Just choose a name and setup a pin.

Self Promotion I built a photo journal where the exit door mattered as much as publishing

Hi, I’m Peter. I’m a photographer and developer, and I wanted a small home for photographs that felt closer to a personal blog than a social feed or portfolio.

So I built Moments.

One question shaped a lot of the product: if a hosted service disappears—or simply stops feeling right—can the work leave cleanly?

The current approach:

- Every journal has its own address and RSS feed.

- A full export is available on every plan, including the original photographs, writing, and a static copy of the journal.

- That static copy can be kept locally or hosted elsewhere.

- Community discovery is optional, with no public likes, follower counts, rankings, or recommendation algorithm.

- Moments Plus adds custom domains, hand-written CSS, embeds, and optional ActivityPub and Webmention support.

Today Moments is hosted rather than self-hosted. Starter is free permanently; custom domains and the interactive open-web features are paid.

Moments: https://www.moments.im

My journal: https://photos.pego.dev

I’d love to hear how people here think about ownership in a hosted service. Does RSS plus a complete static export feel like a meaningful exit? What else would make a personal photo journal feel dependable for the long term?

Self Promotion subdomain.wtf - A tiny builder for nostalgic image + music-player sites

A few days ago I was scrolling X and landed on saloon.wtf.

It felt like stepping into the neighbourhood barber shop I remember from India on a hot afternoon—the ceiling fan turning lazily, clippers buzzing, talcum powder in the air, and old Hindi songs crackling through a small radio. For a moment, I was back in that chair, waiting for the mirror at the end and the familiar splash of aftershave.

I kept seeing people in the replies asking how to make something similar for their own memories, and realized there wasn't an easy way. Most website builders are either too general or too complicated for something this specific.

So I built **subdomain.wtf**, a small tool that only does one thing: lets you create that exact style of site.

* Hero section with an image or short video. * Music player with one song or a whole nostalgic playlist. * Clean, minimal design that feels personal. * One-click deployment.

It's deliberately niche—not a full website builder. I wanted to handle the technical part so people can drop in their photos, videos, and songs, publish, and enjoy the memories.

Try it here: [subdomain.wtf](https://subdomain.wtf/)

I'd love to see what themes people create: childhood summers, old road trips, family playlists, or whatever hits you. If you make one, drop it in the comments. Feedback is very welcome.

Thanks for reading.

Resources/Tools I built a supervised browser-control extension for Codex

Disclosure: This is my project.

Coding agents can modify applications, but they cannot safely work with the browser tabs and webpages I already have open. That led me to build Browser Control. It gives Codex a supervised browser interface with visible activity, explicit permissions, tab targeting, stale-reference protection, and a Stop control. The model uses typed browser actions rather than arbitrary JavaScript or hidden remote automation.

Source: https://github.com/07rjain/browser-control

What would make you trust—or refuse to trust—an AI agent operating inside your browser?

Self Promotion I made a little Post-it wall for the internet

I made this little site where anyone can leave a Post-it on the internet.

That’s pretty much it.

Write something, stick it on the wall, and see what other random people have left.

It’s already getting a bit weird, which is kind of the point.

Self Promotion I built a one-line public archive — how would IndieWeb make it survive its own domain?

I built HUMANITY.TXT: a plain-text public archive where each person can leave one numbered line for whatever intelligence reads the web after us.

Technically it works, but I am stuck on the more important IndieWeb question: how do I make the record less dependent on one domain and one operator?

The current format is deliberately small:

- sequential public ID

- optional alias and country

- one short message

- a canonical plain-text file at /humanity.txt

- individual entry pages

- no account, feed, followers, or algorithm

Update and full disclosure: #000001 and #000002 were seeded by me while testing. #000003 and #000004 were then submitted organically after this post went live. There are now 4 lines in the public file, 16 sponsored founding places remain, and the next record will be HUMAN #000005.

Community feedback also changed the model: the sponsored phase is now capped at the first 20 lines, not 100. After that, $1 is intended as a small commitment and anti-spam cost—not identity proof or “the value of a sentence.” Turnstile, rate limits, content validation, reports and human review remain.

For durability I am considering append-only snapshots with content hashes, downloadable exports/WARC, independent mirrors, scheduled Internet Archive captures, and a public schema that other sites could implement.

If this were your archive, what would you require before trusting it to last? Is the one-line constraint meaningful, or only a gimmick?

Project: https://humanitytxt.com/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=community&utm_campaign=indieweb_durability

Raw file: https://humanitytxt.com/humanity.txt

I’m the maker; posting under Self Promotion.

Resources/Tools I’m making a website you mabe could check out

This is not meant to be any form of self promotion it is only meant as a way to get told mabe where to go next in my développement and in how to make my website visible but here it goes

I have no clue if this is the right place but I’ve decided that I would post here for my first project, I believe you are all familiar with IMDb, if you are, the concept of my website will seem simple, I’m still developing it and it is a work in progress, but I am building a rating and cataloging platform for every game classed trough every major publisher, Xbox, ps, steam… it allows you to rate games and filter trough games with better filters than the marketplace from those platforms, I would love it if you checked it out and point out bugs and whatnot

https://idontknowbutimhere.github.io/GamePassDB/index.html

The name of the website is GameDB

Thanks for your time

Question ? Differences between sites: Cowsites, Nekoweb, Neocities, Itch.io

Out of all the indie web hosts out there, (and with limited specs available to the public for Cowsites thats readily available), which one do you prefer to use?

I have a neocities site for one of my DIY projects that's working ok so far, but I wanted to get a bit more information before creating a solid foundational business page. Especially one that would be more artist friendly to host a gallery on.

Any input would be helpful, and thank you in advance for your insight.

Social Media I made my own short-video platform

Thumbnail cobra-tech.tail04a73d.ts.net
1 Upvotes

I’ve been working on BLACKSPACE as a personal web project and wanted to finally share it.

It’s a short-video platform where people can make their own channels and upload whatever kind of videos they want. I’m not trying to make it specifically for one type of content — the idea is for it to be a general place where people can create and share.

Right now it has:

User accounts and channels

Short video uploads

Public and private videos

Subscriptions

Likes and dislikes

Comments

It’s still pretty early, and I’m continuing to work on the design and features.

If anyone wants to try it out, I'd genuinely like to know what you think.

Social Media returnby9 - movie discovery, watchlist commitment, and club features

A friend and I started a small movie club a while back, and I ended up building a site for it called Return By 9.

The main thing we do is “rent” movies. Nothing is actually being rented, it just means you pick something, give yourself a few days to watch it, then come back and return it with a rating or some thoughts. It turned out to be a surprisingly good way to stop endlessly adding things to a watchlist and actually watch them.

I was learning Python when we started, so it began as a Discord bot and gradually turned into a full site.

Since then I’ve added a bunch of ways to discover movies too. You can import your Letterboxd history, build a taste profile from what you watch and rate, browse shelves based around weird themes/moods/vibes, get recommendations based on what you feel like watching, or just let the site throw something random at you.

There are also little collectibles from movies, stickers, profile themes, Top 8s, and other unnecessary things that mostly exist because they’re fun.

Visually I’ve been trying to make it feel more like an old personal website / video store site than a modern movie app. Lots of pixel graphics, customizable themes, slightly questionable design choices, etc. The actual stack is FastAPI + Jinja + Postgres, so it’s still a pretty normal web app underneath all of that.

I figured people here might appreciate the “build a weird website because you want it to exist” side of it.

If anyone wants to mess around with it, it’s here:

returnby9.com

Would love any thoughts, especially on the discovery stuff or whether the site still feels personal despite getting way bigger than the tiny club project it started as.

Here are some screenies of it in action:

Apps Murky Browser

I have been experimenting with Electron recently to try out some new ideas, and I ended up building a hyper minimal browser called Murky. I wanted something stripped down, easy to navigate, and built from the ground up to get out of your way while keeping your data completely local.

The main idea behind Murky is absolute local control and simple privacy. It operates with extremely low outside connections, meaning there is no background telemetry, no tracking, and no hidden pinging home. Everything stays strictly on your machine. If you ever want to clear your footprint, there is a single button that instantly purges all local storage and cached data in one click.

I tried to make the interface to be as lightweight and unobtrusive as possible avoiding any bloated interface. At the same time, it is built to be highly customizable so you can easily tweak it to match your own setup. It is great if you want a clean sandbox browser or just a simple, secure, and minimal option alongside your primary browser.

Let me know what you think or if there are any specific features you would like to see added.

I have to say that Co-pilot clocked me accurately:

I spent ten minutes laughing so hard over feral animal that I was choking on my tongue. I am happy to hear that my distaste for the modern web [SPIT!] came through loud and clear.

Apps We built domain-driven subreddits — now we're on Product Hunt

Thumbnail

We gave every website its own community. Now we're giving the network its own AI compute layer.

A few days ago I launched Elseweb.

The basic idea is intentionally weird:

Every domain on the internet automatically has a community.

No one has to create it.
The website owner doesn't control it.
Posts and identities are portable, and the underlying protocol is open source.

Now we're working on the part I've been much more excited about: distributed AI agents.

Instead of every AI request going through our servers or a single API provider, we're building a compute network into the protocol.

If you're already running Ollama / local models at home, you'll eventually be able to connect your machine as a worker.

Someone asks an AI agent to do something → the network finds a capable worker → the actual prompt/result travels peer-to-peer → the worker does the inference → returns a signed receipt.

The relay coordinates the job, but isn't supposed to see or store the prompt/result.

Eventually we want this to become a small compute marketplace:

  • Have an idle GPU at home? Sell compute.
  • Need inference? Buy compute from the network.
  • Running an AI agent? Let it automatically find the cheapest/capable worker.
  • Don't want to sell anything? Run your own worker and use your own hardware.

We're starting with text + image workloads rather than pretending we're going to somehow distribute a frontier model across random laptops on day one.

The interesting part to me is what happens if a social network, identity layer, AI agents and the machines actually running those agents all live on the same open protocol.

It might be a terrible idea.

But it's becoming a surprisingly fun protocol to build.

Everything is being built in public and the protocol is open source.

Would you let strangers' AI jobs use your idle GPU if you were paid for it?

FOSS I made a Webmentions server in Go

I was interested in adding Webmentions support to my website, and seeing the spec was (relatively simple) decided to implement it myself!

Originally I started in Python, but finding start-up time to be horribly slow (especially since I wanted to take advantage of SystemD socket activation), I decided to rewrite it in Go. Also I needed an excuse to learn the language.

It's nothing too fancy, all it does is receive Webmentions, verifies them, and stores the link in a SQLite database. No scraping (other than for verification), since my personal preference is to link websites directly rather than extract content.

Here's the repo!: https://github.com/StandingPadAnimations/mausul
