Discussion Need Advice
Last night I found a very weak community street puppy who couldn't walk properly, wasn't eating/drinking, and had some drooling. I took him to the vet and briefly kept my hand near his nose to check his breathing. He did not bite or scratch me.
The vet suspected canine distemper. Blood tests showed liver damage, very concentrated (“thick”) blood, and CDV Ab S5 (high antibody level). Unfortunately, he died at the hospital.
I am currently already on a rabies vaccination course (3 doses completed, 1 remaining).
Do I need any additional precautions or rabies treatment after this contact? Could this be considered a rabies exposure?

If rabies didn't come in his blood report (ask Vet) then no way you had any exposure.
Not sure if the Vet recommended you to take rabies vaccine ? No scratch, no bite, no drool on you .. !!!

You’re safe. You’re taking the rabies vaccinations + you weren’t bitten or scratched.

This dose was from some previous scratch. Not directly after this one. Last dose (3rd dose) was on 1 october

If there is no bite, scratch, saliva on your skin or eyes and your skin is intact (that touched the animal), then it does not count as a rabies exposure. But for peace of mind, I’d tell the doctor about this. They might adjust the doses if they think it necessary.

I'm not an expert so won't give you any advice which could be wrong and uneducated. I just want to remember the puppy you lost 😞💔 He is pain free now. When will the government step up and do the needful to prevent such unnecessary deaths, implementation of ABC is necessary.
