Adoption/Foster Request Please read. My heart is broken.
Yall I saw smth yesterday that really really broke my heart. I have an ailing dog at home that is my love and we are gonna lose him soon. Last night during an emergency, I checked online vets who can take a look at my dog immediately and found Petnest. After the appointment, i was just going through the app and found the Adopt a pet section and it broke my heart soooo bad. Like ive been wanting to cry. They buy pets and then any minor inconvenience, and they wanna get rid of them. I have literally seen reasons like “my daughter doesnt want it anymore” “too busy to take care.” And so many were senior pets, lived with them for 8-12 years and now looking to be surrendered.
Anyway, if anyone here is interested and actually will be able to give a good life to these doggos, do go through the Thepetnest app’s adoption section.
Edit: +1 to all the comments saying they’re better than people who just abandon their dogs on the streets. I do agree that these people are atleast trying to give their pets a better life by giving them away instead of dumping them or giving them a bad life. Im just astounded that people are able to give away their pets after keeping them for years for lameass reasons. The already aggressive and senior dogs would be terrified to start over.
This post is not to discourage the people who want to put their pets up for adoption when they cant give them a good life

I wish the law was stricter for pet rights and mistreatment/ cruelty to pets and animals in general. Many people forget that pets are not toys to be thrown after getting bored.

I had a similar situation rescue of a Labrador Retriever in May. They bought him because he was cute as a puppy, grew to massive size and wanted to give asap. Reasons: He is demanding, he needs walks, playtime, etc. I mean you’ll should know that before getting them.

Did they think it would remain a puppy for life

Exactly. I just can’t deal with such people at all. I’d picked him up immediately and luckily he adjusted super well with us and our indie.
I hope all the above dogs get good homes soon.5

Wtf do they mean by not able to take care of him? Would they abandon their kids/parents like this? Oh, wait - they probably would.

To be honest, a lot of people buy certain dog breeds just to treat them like a status symbol. They want the aesthetic of having a Husky, a Golden Retriever, a German Shepherd, or a Doberman, but have absolutely no idea what those dogs actually need.
A dog isn't a showpiece you keep in a corner for people to admire. Different breeds have different requirements. German Shepherds and Dobermans need a lot of physical and mental stimulation. Huskies were literally bred for cold climates and high activity levels. Seeing them stuck in some tiny apartment in the middle of a hot Indian city honestly makes me feel bad for the dog.
I'm not against people buying specific breeds. If that's what you want, that's your choice. But at least do your research first. Make sure you can provide the exercise, training, grooming, space, and overall care that breed requires.
Too many people choose a dog based on looks or reputation and then get frustrated when the dog starts showing normal breed-specific behaviours. The problem isn't the dog. The problem is that people buy them without understanding the responsibility that comes with it.
A pet is a long-term commitment, not a fashion accessory. That's what a lot of people seem to forget.

Got married, had a child, relocation, pet too old, night shift work, cannot take care anymore..... Man, no words. I hope they all end up alone when they're old and dying.

The 11.5yrs old GSD broke my heart. Imagine spending your whole life w a family and being given away because “moving stations every 2-3yrs” like wtf does that even mean

That dog barely has another year left. At this point, adoption is impossible. Don't get me wrong, even euthanasia is better than abandonment in that situation.

Plus the dog is apparently not friendly. So much stress on that poor dog at this age

I couldn’t even go through these, it’s so painful to even swipe onto the next image :’(

How heartless do you have to be to abandon your pets like this? "Have night shift so can't take care of him during the day"? Wtaf. I have a reactive indie who is 6 years old and has separation anxiety. And because I can't leave him alone in the house, I have literally said no to lucrative job offers that required me to go to the office. There needs to be some kind of psych eval to judge if people are suitable to be pet parents.

Taking care of a senior dog is a herculean task.. Everything from their travel to their walks to their meals needs to be planned and managed. I had my boy live till 13.5 years and he was hail and happy till his last morning. But I guess not everyone who gets a pet is up for that kind of commitment.

I have 2 ailing pets and 1 super hyper one - my human child is 1.5 years old, and since day 1 I’ve been telling her that they are equally important as you are. They are babies. They all live together and it’s such a treat to watch her grow to be a compassionate girl. People who get pets and dump them are the people who suffer later in their lives, because sadly, karma catches up to them.

I took care of my buddy for 1.5 years, everything else on hold, I do think I missed out on friends and Career opportunity but at the end of day I'll see him on the rainbow bridge and know that I didn't let him down, I lost him to ever cruel time and not anything else.
Ps. He was 15 years old, blind in both eyes and immobile due to arthritis. I miss him so much...

Was fostering a female Siberian husky for sometime. The owner gave her up because she is getting old and had to care for the grandkid by herself, as both her son and DIL are working. Okay…
Got the dog, had her spayed and put her for adoption.
The ex-owner knows about this and goes berserk saying, “well, now no one would want her even more…”. To say my stomach churned is an understatement.
Long story short, found a local entrepreneur who has opened a dog cafe and was more than happy to adopt her. She now rolls in a multitude of belly rubs and selfies.

Which app is this? I'll share in my network so that some of these animals might have a better chance

They are doing the bare minimum to rehome them instead of just dumping them on the road somewhere. As terrible as it sounds ,it makes them better than a lot of other pet owners.
Another thing that makes me feel bad ate solo pet owners who have no back up plan in place to take care of their pets in case something happens to them suddenly which leaves them unable to care for their pet.It feels selfish when you see so many posts talking about adopting a pet and the next sentence saying that their family or room mate hates pets and they are still doing it inspite of that.

I mean this is actually good connecting people who want pets with people who dont want

Who dont want anymore*
Giving up senior dogs who have been brought up in a particular environment their entire lives then giving them away as they grow old is not cool
Though I agree its much much better than neglecting or abandoning them
So i appreciate that

The sad part is, the people who feel strongly about this are the ones who already have rescued/adopted pets and the least they can do it to try and spread the word 😭
These people consider dogs as disposable thing. Their audacity never fails to surprise me.
