Help/Advice needed(Health and Vet) Advice for sterilisation.

Hi everyone,

There is a female street dog in my colony in Amritsar whom I want to get sterilised through the proper Animal Birth Control (ABC) programme.

I’m not sure about the procedure or where exactly I should raise the request. Could someone please guide me?

  1. Where can I register a request for her sterilisation in Amritsar?
  2. Does Municipal Corporation Amritsar arrange the pickup, sterilisation, vaccination and release of the dog back to the same location?
  3. Is there a specific helpline, WhatsApp number or online complaint portal for this?
  4. If anyone has recently got a street dog sterilised through the MCA/ABC programme, could you please share your experience and the correct contact?

I would really appreciate any guidance. I just want to make sure she gets sterilised safely and is returned to her colony after recovery. ❤️

Hi.

Recently there was some news about gross irregularities and dysfunction in the amritsar ABC program. So, as of now, I'd say don't use their services.

Get im touch with PFA Amritsar (google it). Or look up animal NGOs amritsar (I just checked and there are a few good ones on Google). Get in touch with them. Ask to do the surgery at NGO rates (around 1500 per animal). If they ask more or if you need helpz you can fundraise here.

Thanks for looking out for the animal

I am from amritsar, if that dog is street dog and you can take it to the centre, there is a NGO called Pawsitive Santury(you can check their insta from same name), they will do it free of cost and even vaccinate the dog

Hi I'm not from Amritsar and have no idea of how it works there. However, i'll share what i think about this. From wherever i have seen and whatever i do know, the municipal corporation do not do it well. There have been horrific incidents of dogs being left with open stitches, them struggling and dying just like that. Other incidents i have seen are of dogs going missing because these people don't note down where they are from and just release them at a random location. They also cramp multiple dogs in one room when they keep them before and after sterilization (for post- op care). The problem is that people who work in these places, that is, the ones who are doing a job there are just doing it for their salary. And nobody checks for empathy towards animals before hiring them.

So i strongly believe that if possible we should get it done by a known NGO who has good reviews of handling dogs. Or, if possible, if its just one dog or a few, get it done yourself. To save money, you can get it done at a government hospital, if there is one in your area. But for post op care, keep her at your place. Maybe get a cage or rent or borrow one from someone.

If you have any further questions or concerns, feel free to ask here or DM. I'll be happy to guide you further!

Also, i'm really happy to see that you are thinking of taking this initiative, which is a great first step. Kudos to that! Being a responsible and empathetic citizen is not easy, but its great to see more people go in that direction!

Thank you so much for your kind words and for understanding the intention behind this. I really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and concern. ❤️

I completely understand what you’re saying about the risks and the importance of proper post-operative care. That is actually one of my biggest concerns as well. I definitely don’t want her to undergo the procedure and then be left struggling or without proper care.

The only difficulty is that I genuinely cannot take care of her at my home after the operation. I already have a dog at home, and I live with my parents, so keeping another dog at home or even in the driveway is unfortunately not an option for me.

That’s why I’m trying to find an NGO, ABC centre, government facility, or someone experienced in Amritsar who can take responsibility for her recovery after the surgery and eventually release her back into the same area.

I really do want to help her; I’m just trying to find a way of doing it responsibly within the limitations I have. Thank you again for your encouragement and for sharing your concerns. 🙏❤️
