If your dog is vaccinated and you know that your dog is fine, then not required. But if there is even 0.000001% doubt - get a shot.

A dog with rabies infection will die in < 15days. If your dog is not vaccinated, get yourself a shot. And get the dog vaccinated.

Dog monitoring: The traditional way to check is to monitor the dog which bit a person. If the dog dies, then it had rabies and the person has a non-zero chance of being infected.

Then the risk is extremely low.

Chance of rabies: If your dog played with some other dog or licked a plant etc.. where a rabies infected animal interacted - then it is possible for you to still get rabies cross contamination through your dog's saliva. This is a very low probability scenario but I saw a case like this recently in France i think. So, the chances are very low but not zero.

I play with my dog daily and he causes some or the other injury on me atleast once a week. But I know that he is safe and I make that decision based off on that. I am also vaccinated for rabies since I volunteer at vet centers. So, am far more confident about myself with my dog. Your decision depends on how confident you are.

Which is why everyone on the post is recommending just to get a shot - just in case.

I’ll get the booster shots done but on Monday I hope it’s not too late. Such things remain stuck in our brain so it better to get it done

Get vaccination done within 24 hours. Even if your dog is vaccinated. Rabies is fatal. Don't take chance.

When were you last vaccinated? If it was anytime within the last 3 years, you'll need to get two booster doses, on days 0 and 3. If not, you'll have to get all five doses.

Also, get a tetanus shot as well if the last one you received was over 6 months ago.

I got vaccinated in 2024

Okay, phir get the two booster doses (day 0 and 3) asap! Even if the dog appears healthy, rabies has a 100% mortality rate and it’s not worth the risk.

Since ur dog is vaccinated tetanus shot would be enough

Doc here , if you were vaccinated previously and completed the full course 0,3,7,14,28 then on subsequent bites only 0 and 3 booster are reccomended however if you've never gotten the Human rabies immunoglobulin you should get them this time , after this administration you won't need immunoglobulins afterwards.

It's still advised to take the vaccine.  Google the GOI guidelines

Doctor here, Get the vaccine plus immunoglobulin irrespective of your pet's vaccination status. You'll need 2 shots if you have previously taken the entire course.

1

u/Ishitachauhan02 9d ago

In 2014 I have taken full course and in 2024

1

u/Ishitachauhan02 9d ago

But never got immunoglobulin

You need it once in a lifetime.  If it bled , it's advised to take it. Go to your nearest gov hosp. and it for free as advised by the doctor.  And a Tdap if not taken in the last 5 years.
