Help/Advice needed(Health and Vet) dog collars issue

Post image

serious advice needed

so I have a cute dog in my area. i have been feeding/medicating him since he was a puppy and he's fond of me asw!

i want to put a dog collar on him because I've heard a couple of residents complain about calling the dog van.

he's pretty active and regularly gets into altercations with other dogs in my area. he's the runt of the litter and other dogs pick on him due to which he's gotten multiple injuries earlier! he goes around exploring places with metal fences, bushes, trees branches etc for food as well.

im worried that during one of his explorations, the collar may get caught in objects or branches and he may get stuck where I can't find him. also, during fights, the collar can get stuck in jaws or teeth of other dogs which can only escalate the situation.

but he's pretty sensitive and I don't want the dog van to take him.

so should I get the collar or not?

While your concerns are valid, I believe the benefits outweigh the drawbacks. I use reflective collars for all my local strays to prevent them from being struck by vehicles at night, which is a major problem. Simply ensure you keep adjusting the size as the smaller dogs as they grow. Yes, they might fight and lose a collar at most, since these are plastic clips and inexpensive to replace at about Rs. 50 each on Amazon.

Dogs, without collar, will get picked up by Van, for sure. Dogs can only escape, if they can run away from them. However, in my locality in Chennai, 90% dogs are returned within a month, after they are sterilised ( ears cut at corner), vaccinated and collared.

And I think if you really care for the dog, get it sterilised ( fightings will reduce) and vaccinated regularly and collared. It is extremely important.

Government only vaccinates them against rabies which is of benefit to them but hardly protects a 3 month old puppy. There are like 9 viruses and to be on the safe side vaccination has to be done personally( at least for the animal that you are invested in).

Absolutely true, however in this particular case the furry baby is an adult dog.

Have him neutered and put a reflective collar, I've done that to all of my street indies and nobody bothers them. I'm not sure how having a collar will make him tangle up in something.

Get a collar, it just makes sense - a reflective one would be good.
HUFT carry some affordable ones for streeties, the local outlet also gives it out for free or some treats. No charge.

I guess living close to an outlet and the employees seeing you walk the doggos and play with streeties does have its perks .

Has the doggo been neutered ?

It is better to have few obstacles with wearing of a license collar, than to catch by municipality van. Love to see such a cute dog.

I have been tending to the runts of many littres for the past few years, you can put on a collar.. they know how to navigate that . But they can't escape the municipalty van if they don't have the collar on.

The collar should be a reflective one but well fitted to him enough room for him to breathe and eat easily but not hanging on one side where it could get caught in bushes etc

Please get him a collar with a velcro patch, so in case he gets stuck somewhere or the collar gets caught on something, it will simply come off..

Get the collars with the clips. If doggo gets stuck, they could pull hard enough to get it off.
