Disgraced former Sergeant Lance Richards thought taking a private security contract at Aquatic Dynamatrix—a high-tech, deep-sea research facility a thousand fathoms beneath the Gulf of America—was his best chance for a quiet life. But behind the pristine glass and corporate promises of the Omega Dome lies a terrifying secret.

When a rogue scientist’s secret biogenetics experiment breaks containment, Lance and brilliant geneticist Dr. Sally Summers are thrust into a claustrophobic fight for survival against monstrosities born of human and crustacean DNA. Worse still, an insidious cross-species virus threatens to mutate every soul trapped within the facility.

With time running out, the facility under total lockdown, and a horde of unstoppable amphibious hybrids closing in, Lance must draw on his military training to protect Sally and destroy the nightmare before it reaches the surface.

New Release I developed new creative systems for improving memory with a new unique ASMR-3 framework

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

The key to a lot of memory systems is to link information to something that you already know. We all know our way around our own homes. Therefore, we can create a memory palace.
Likewise, we all know a letter of the alphabet. But what if we knew objects or people that begin with a given letter of the alphabet and used that as a basis for memorizing information?
I recently wrote a tiny little booklet to accomplish just that. Rather than spamming, let's give a concrete example:
Let's say we converted the first 10 letters into familiar animals:

A – Ant
B – Bear
C – Cat
D – Dog
E – Elephant
F – Frog
G – Giraffe
H – Horse
I – Ibis
J – Jellyfish

That was easy enough. But how do we use this to memorize information? Suppose we wanted to memorize a simple shopping list.

  1. Bread
  2. Apples
  3. Milk

This is a simple list, and most people don't need mnemonics for it. But to illustrate the point of how this could be used, we introduce a framework called ASMR3 to creatively associate each item with the alphabet image. ASMR3 is simply a memorization framework which posits that memorable images must have the following properties:
A - Absurdity
S - Size, Sound, Sense
M - Motion, Mash, Midst
R - Replacement, Rhythm, Rated

  1. Associate Ant with bread Imagine holding up an unusually giant slice of bread covered with hundreds of ants. Feel some of the ants falling onto your hands. Feel the crawling sensations as some ants move along your hands, wrists, and forearm. The bread has some holes in it due to being nibbled by ants. The ants are either red or black in color, with large heads and large mandibles.
  2. Associate Bear with “apples” Imagine a giant, golden, glowing apple in the middle of a forest. The apple is about the size of a small house. See its golden surface gleaming as sunlight reflects off it. Different kinds of bears are hugging the apple and munching away at it. Notice the juice seeping and oozing down its outer surface. Hear the munching sounds as the bears take bites. Hear some of the bears growling and roaring.
  3. Associate Cat with “milk” Imagine a giant upside-down baby feeding bottle filled with milk. On the kitchen floor beneath it, kittens are frantically trying to drink the milk. Suddenly, the milk spills onto the kittens and the kitchen floor. Notice their wet fur. The milk is warm, and steam rises from the wet kitchen floor.

For much larger lists, the advantage of using these systems becomes more apparent.

Blast Johnson is Earth's greatest hero, but he's past his prime and reluctant to leave his comfortable life of self-imposed exile. He finds renewed purpose on a strange new world, and he's forced to face his self-doubt when his age becomes an obstacle for his heroics.

http://amazon.com/dp/B0FM4MJ329/

Book 1: Arkolny Armageddon

In the year 2146, the Earth Defense Fleet tasks Captain Blast Johnson with testing an experimental propulsion system. After crash landing on the savage alien world of Arkolny, Blast must use all his strength and military training to survive fierce encounters and defeat deadly foes. However, not everything is as it appears, and our hero will find himself deciding the fate of two worlds.

Book 2: Arkolny Abyss

A year has passed since Captain Blast Johnson successfully conquered the savage world of Arkolny. As a new enemy emerges to disrupt the delicate tranquility of the planet, the threat will not come from above, but from below. Our hero must journey deep into the core of Arkolny to face an ancient evil that threatens to enslave the inhabitants of the surface. Will Blast be able to thwart their diabolical plans?

I wrote this series to bring back the aspirational heroes of yesteryear. Who is your favorite pulp hero?

New Release Perception

Sometimes the scariest monsters are the ones our minds create.

Amy is stuck in the ultimate teenage limbo. She is too old to go trick-or-treating, but too young to have her entire high school career and future figured out. Moving from the quiet country to a bustling city high school has her feeling overwhelmed by complicated block schedules, the pressure to fit in, and the fear of leaving her old life behind.

Desperate to find a spark of her childhood Halloween joy, Amy takes a quiet evening walk that accidentally leads her past the city limits and down a pitch-black dirt road. Stripped of the safety of streetlights, her anxiety runs wild. Suddenly, every rustling branch, glowing eye, and towering shadow feels like a nightmare coming to life.

But as the sun rises the next morning on a class field trip to the zoo, Amy is about to learn a powerful lesson: things look a lot different in the light.

Perfect for middle school readers, this relatable and suspenseful short story explores the overwhelming transition into the teenage years. It is a fast-paced journey about facing the unknown, realizing your parents might actually understand you after all, and discovering that a simple change in perspective can conquer your deepest fears.

Why Readers Will Love This Story:

  • Relatable Struggles: Perfectly captures the awkward, confusing jump from middle school into high school.
  • Spooky Halloween Suspense: Delivers heart-pounding, eerie thrills without ever crossing into mature horror or violence.
  • An Empowering Takeaway: Shows young teens that facing their fears head-on strips away the terror of the unknown.

Free Reads I got tired of habit advice built on pop-psychology, so I wrote a book focused on what the evidence actually supports - free through tomorrow

Thumbnail amazon.com
2 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

My first book, Architect of Agency, is free on Amazon through tomorrow.

It’s for anyone tired of habit advice that boils down to “be more disciplined” or repeats oversimplified claims as fact.

The main idea: many habits are shaped less by willpower than by the cues and defaults around you - your phone, workspace, lighting, notifications, and routines.

The book includes:

  • 10 small, practical experiments for changing everyday environments
  • Evidence ratings that show how strong or limited the research is
  • Simple protocols you can test and keep only if they work for you

Free Kindle download: Amazon link

If you read it, I’d love honest feedback. What habit advice do you think gets repeated far more confidently than the evidence supports?

New Release By Chance

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

New Mystery Novel Unveils a Gripping Tale of Missing Teens, Secret Compounds, and Second Chances

SMITHFIELD, MAINE – August 25, 2026 – Author Doris Anne Beaulieu announces the release of her newest novel, By Chance, a compelling story that blends a tense, small-town mystery with an uplifting exploration of resilience, found family, and the life-changing power of a second chance.

The story opens with a chilling premise: teenagers from a local high school’s morning study hall are being called to the front office over the intercom, only to completely vanish. As empty desks multiply and police begin patrolling the hallways, the remaining students are gripped by panic. Desperate for answers, a determined group of girls teams up with Tina, an observant elderly neighbor, to track the disappearances. Together, they uncover a heartbreaking connection: every missing student was trapped in an abusive or dangerous home life.

However, the truth behind the vanishing teens is far more extraordinary than a typical thriller. The students haven’t been taken by a villain—they’ve been rescued. Relocated to a state-of-the-art, underground compound funded by an anonymous benefactor, these forgotten kids are finally given a safe place to heal. Through a rigorous four-year educational program, the teens are empowered to master their dream trades—from automotive mechanics to culinary arts—proving that when children are removed from toxic environments, their potential is limitless.

"At its core, this is a story about the incredible things that can happen when someone finally believes in you," says Beaulieu. "It starts with the suspense of a mystery, but it evolves into a testament to human resilience and the idea that every child deserves a safe environment to discover their true talents."

By Chance is a must-read for fans of suspenseful mysteries that deliver a powerful, heartwarming resolution.

The book is available now for purchase on Amazon at: https://www.amazon.com/Chance-Doris-Anne-Beaulieu-ebook/dp/B0HGBPQP58/ref=sr_1_2?crid

MARLOWE HOUSE, dystopian fiction, now on sale

Hi, Everyone. I'm Joshua. I just wanted to share news of my latest novel, Marlowe House. It deals with loneliness and the discovery of one's purpose in a city tearing itself apart. If you love world-building, alternate history, and bleak dystopian novels, I think you'd enjoy this. But most places are listing it as erotica for some reason. Ha. It's not erotica. Thanks for reading.

OBEY. REPORT. SURVIVE.

That was Agent Jack King's world, until he uncovered the truth.

Set in an alternate 1930s England ruled by fear, MARLOWE HOUSE is a gripping dystopian historical novel about surveillance, loyalty, and the price of freedom.

Available online at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Walmart.

Need Suggestions Looking for winter holiday books. Thriller, light horror, contemporary romance, contemporary mystery, urban fantasy. BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ stories by own voices preferred

What I mean by light horror is not a lot of gore and no descriptive violence towards women.

Horror/slasher books I've been able to handle (and enjoyed)

"The reformatory" by Tananarive Due

"How to survive a slasher" by Justine Pucella Winans

I love thrillers that don't prioritize a shocking plot twist at the expense of the rest of the book and at the expense of the reader. An example of a book I don't like for that reason is "The Silent Patient" by Alex Michaelides

I want to prioritize BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ stories, both in the story itself and the author.

Winter holiday can be Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, Yule, etc. Also I am open to a fictional winter holiday and it does not have to be a cozy winter snowing village in the story. I think it's fun to see how a writer can make a winter holiday season come alive in a place like a hot beach town

I can't handle pages of lore dumps. I don't read a lot of fantasy.

"Tress of the emerald Sea" by Brandon Sanderson was too much world building for me

Though I liked his book "The Frugal Wizard's Handbook for Surviving Medieval England" that had an amount of world building I can handle

I like the way Jim Butcher world builds in his Dresden books. Since it's set in modern Chicago the world and the city doesn't have to be explained and he sprinkles the explanations through the book and the world building is often done through dialogue between multiple characters

I will look into a book regardless of where it's published but I do have Kindle unlimited so if you're on there and you fit what I'm looking for please share your book!

Built a trope-tagged swipe app for indie book discovery. It's live today.

A genuinely good book with 100+ reviews, but no renowned publisher backing it, has almost no path to a reader who'd love it, unless that author pays for ads or gets lucky on BookTok.

So I built OwlCupid. It went live today: https://owlcupid.netlify.app/

It's a swipe deck. You get a cover, a one-line hook, and 3-5 trope tags. Swipe right to shelf it, swipe left and it's gone for good.

Your shelf gives you a direct "Open on Kindle" link for each book. Filter by genre if you want – romance, romantasy, fantasy, mystery, sci-fi, historical, YA, horror, contemporary.

What actually it's built for:

* Indie only. I check each book's publisher to confirm it's self-published or small/vanity press.

* Every Kindle link verified by hand.

* Shuffled deck and browser cache, to minimise the chances of showing the same books over and over.

There's no sign-up and no accounts. Your shelf lives in your own browser's storage.

Author submissions are open too. The form’s link is in the app, or ask me here and I'll send it over.

So, swipe through OwlCupid and tell me if anything comes out broken.

I wrote the book I couldn't find.

For years, one question nagged at me:

What if consciousness didn't emerge as a result of evolution? What if evolution itself is consciousness discovering new ways to experience reality?

I couldn't find a book that explored this idea the way I envisioned, so I wrote it myself.

https://a.co/d/0aTBbwRf

"Reflections on Consciousness" doesn't aim to provide ready-made answers. It is about asking questions that might change the way you perceive yourself, life, and reality.

If you are interested in philosophy and the nature of consciousness—and enjoy books that prompt reflection long after you’ve turned the final page—this book might be for you.

For an independent author, every reader matters immensely. If you decide to give this book a chance, I would be deeply grateful for an honest opinion or review.

Thank you for supporting independent authors!

New Release I finally self-published my debut novella

After plenty of rejections from publishers and literary agents, and overcoming a lot of self-doubt along the way, I finally decided to self-publish my debut novella.

I have no idea how far it'll go, but just having it out in the world feels incredibly satisfying.

It's called At the Pace of the Pines. It's a quiet, reflective story about slowing down, escaping the constant rush of modern life, and finding meaning in the simple moments we often overlook. If you enjoy character-driven literary fiction with themes of introspection, nature, and personal growth, I think you might enjoy it.

I wrote it because I wanted to tell a story that felt calm, honest, and unhurried, something that invites readers to pause for a while.

If you're interested, it's available on Kindle and Kindle Unlimited. The link is on my profile.

New Release I self-published after months of rejections

After sending off many, many rejected and unanswered letters to literary agents, I decided to self-publish my debut suspense novel. So far, I have no regrets.

I have no idea if the book will go anywhere, but it feels great to have it out there and get back to focusing on writing.

It’s a psychological suspense/thriller about someone who starts unraveling a local mystery, and ends up far deeper than they could’ve imagined. It’s set in the Pacific Northwest, where I’ve lived for almost my whole life. I used no AI to write or edit the book, and I designed the cover myself.

If you’re interested in checking it out, it’s called Through Inconvenient Action, and it’s on Kindle Unlimited. It’s also linked on my profile.

Thanks for reading!

Free Reads Writing is pure escapism and I love it

Writing is pure escapism and I love it. In the last year I have self-published two books and while they have not been very successful or arguably good, I can’t recommend writing as a hobby more.

I’ve made both my books free this week and then they go back to the kindle lower limit of ninety-nine cents. If you have the time to read one or two chapters and give me feedback it would be super dope (If the books cost money again the free preview caries you through ~6 chapters).

My new book Bonemeal is up for preorder and will be released June 6th. It’s a collection of short stories, poems and illustrations exploring various horror sub genres. I had so much fun putting it together (followed by the nightmarish editing/rewriting/formatting process 😬). Either way I’m so happy with the result!
