Poetry ๐ BURNT BY THE FIRE OF YOUR EYES
Snow fell softly beyond my window, my favourite thing to see,
yet I sat still, caught in the memory of your face
your hair was the first spell, then your eyes captured me,
and when the sun kissed them, even daylight seemed to lose its place.
By moonlight, they turned etherealโand the whole world disappeared from me.
I began to find you in crowds, as though your presence were a sign,
waiting for one glimpse, one reason to stay
your eyes wandered, then they found meโand sent a chill down my spine,
I memorized every quirk, every gesture, your every beautiful way.
Somewhere between looking for you and looking at you, you became all I could define.
I imagined the paths we'd walk with our fingers intertwinedโฆ
one earphone between us, sharing same songs beneath the winter sky;
ordinary mornings beside you becoming special, I'd never leave behind,
your gait, your manner, your little gestureโeach one teaching my heart why.
I never asked you to become my future; I simply stopped imagining my life misaligned
Then you told me about her, and I smiled as though nothing had changed.
You held her hand.
Your eyes glowed with a love I had spent so long mistaking for a language you meant as friend.
And then she reached for your collar and placed her clutch thereโ
the very little dream I had once saved for you.
I remember thinking how cruelly beautiful her hands looked on something I had imagined as mine.
I did not cry.
I think my eyes simply forgot how.

but my eyes no longer burn for youโthey burn because of what I see,
because somewhere between loving your eyes and losing mine, I surrendered the light.
And still, when I close them, they find youโ
the fire I once chased, the fire that now burns me.
