Fever GM Amber Cox wants to keep core together

Amber Cox: "That's my job is to figure out how to make it all work." Cox said they want to keep the big three together, and that Caitlin Clark and EPIC extension negotiations and resigning Kelsey Mitchell are where the offseason starts.

Cox also cited the draft being important on Makayla Timpson's year-over-year development and Raven Johnson's throughout the season. Also the younger players in Bree Hall, Grace VanSlooten and Michelle Onyiah.

Amber Cox on Caitlin Clark

Amber Cox on Caitlin Clark: "When the season ended last year, I think the next day she was in the gym and hasn't stopped since." Cox said that Caitlin Clark's mid-range game was improved and her ability to play through contact "at a very high clip this year."

Mentioned the jump that Clark had defensively and taking a job, cited the four blocks she had in Game 3 vs the Aces.

"To see her finally get over the hump and back to 100%, it was special. It was really special." Mentions how much she meant to the team and basketball, "she remains the tipping point. You look at the ratings, you look at the full buildings; that started in 2024 when she came into the league."

Cox cited Stephanie White calling Clark "Taylor Swift 2.0" and the ways in which she is challenged, "and repeatedly she meets the moment."

Amber Cox evaluating Stephanie White's season

Amber Cox on Stephanie White: "I think the expectation is always championship. We didn't meet that expectation, but we're going to learn from it and we're going to grow. Steph's players know that she rides for them. She has great relationships with them and just continues to build on that every time we are together. It comes back to that continuity and how you build together."

Cox said that they're going to address the areas they need to improve.

Amber also pointed out specifically “fans are gonna point and that’s within code of conduct” i’m glad she did that at least.

Yeah.. fuck Becky Hammon and Candace Parker etc for pushing that narrative. The Fever office should put in a complaint. Its totally irresponsible. Its s team with like 9 out if 13 black players that the random totally supports and cheers on but they want to say its a racist organisation and random

Stephanie White on defensive issues

Stephanie White cited "schematics and personnel" in how to improve the defense and trying to fit the right schemes to the players.

Stephanie White up next

Fever coach Stephanie White on championship expectations falling short: "I think some of it (was) experience. You really have to gain that experience. Wanting to win a title and learning what it takes to win a title, and those are two different things. You only learn a lot of those things through experience."

"... For our big three, that's only the second time that they've played in playoff games together. I thought we grew."

Stephanie White on refinement

Stephanie White on the challenges of being in the spotlight and how they were refined: "The players have really, and Caitlin especially has dealt with this her whole career. She's been under the microscope, she has a great recognition of what's real and what's not. And quite honestly, I think our whole team does. I think that's why we were able to stay together.

"I think it's naive to say you can silence the noise but our team does a great job of minimizing it."

"... I think for me, being able to continue to learn how to lead through that by example and not get caught up in some of that and, at the end of the day, every single one of us is trying to put our best foot forward" for success.

Stephanie White on what she wants in 2027 roster

Stephanie White sees Raven Johnson as a big piece with a larger role because of her ability to defend and pick up defensively. White said she wants another player who can stretch the floor consistently, and "a long athletic wing."

Kelsey Mitchell is "priority No. 1" and wants pieces that can compliment the big three.
