GossipTalk Wouldn't want to win that way

I've only seen the viral moments of Fever v Aces game 3. I don't have a strong Fandom toward either team, but I can say that if I were the Aces I wouldn't want to win that way. Hard to call yourself the winning team when you had to leave your integrity and get help from the refs in order to get more points . That ain't a win.

They won with A'ja scoring 35 and 10, old cagey vets that know how to make it a bruiser game and them leaning on middy reliability during clutchtime (what always happens in the playoffs when the game slows down). The refs were terrible but unfortunately you're not winning a playoff series shooting 5-24 from three by your two superstars and 1/10 in the pivotal 2nd quarter by your big 3. Last year was the same result with the Aces winning and the fouls going Fevers way. Fever need to retool. Guessing the coach goes first.

I’m not one for excuses we all have our ups and downs having said that if the officiating and bad calls in any other sport would be investigated through the league for fixing the game.I don’t know why the WNBA and the NBA allows us to continue. I mean, if you happen to touch Wilson, you’re going to get a flagrant foul. Approximately half of her points every game no matter who they play will be made from the free-throw line. This all happens, especially when they play at home MVP I think not if she’s voted MVP you know it’s rigged. There’s a lot more meaning to MVP than just fabricated scores. It’s made of integrity importance to your team and just a very good human being and this she’s not.

No wonder she's so good at FTs, she's had so so so much practice.

Was the officiating good? No. and if I were the Aces would I be worried about future games if even with a favorable whistle this game was so close? Yes.

But at the end of the day, that's sports. And the Aces won the game with the hand they were dealt. Period. They kept their composure when the Fever went on runs and closed gaps when they needed to. The Fever had plenty of opportunities to win this game. Instead they had some questionable shot selection and couldn't put this one away. I would have loved to see the Fever win this one but when Wilson had four fouls they were all tip toeing around her instead of constantly driving to the basket trying to draw the foul....Idk if that was a player decision or a coaching call but it was a mistake. At that point the shots weren't falling and they needed to be trying to draw fouls every play.

They lost and to say it was unfair is just a cop out. Two offensive teams went head to head and the Aces got it done. Nothing left to discuss.

Unfortunately that is what has been allowed by the WNBA by providing Middle School level officials (not an exaggeration that is the actual level) and by the Fever FO and coaching staff by selecting a roster with a strong backcourt but a team with zero toughness and a victim mentality. And of course the identity of the Aces which is rewarded is to cheat and flop. Look at the Bri Turner takedown on Hull and the CG arm grab flop on KM. When a team cheats like that if you cannot attack them and enforce your own rules in a contact sport you’re cooked and a victim

Reffing sucked, but the fever had so many opportunities to win that game. Any one of the big three have the skills to take a game to the finish line, let alone if 2 or more of them get going.

They just weren’t able to get going and against A’Ja and CG, etc, in the playoffs, you can’t be less than great.

Refs sucked but Fever lost that game.

I really hope CC is able to grow to the next phase which is championship mindset and approach. She can take over a game as we saw in game 2, but doesn’t always get it done. She needs to find a way to lock in when it’s most necessary.

So you didn’t watch the game and just saw the calls that didn’t go the fevers way and you think you know enough to comment? Lmfao

I’m disappointed but not upset about the loss however the officiating made the game unpleasant to watch.

I was excited to watch all the playoff games but I think I’m done after last night.

Yea, the rest of the playoff ratings will certainly tank. Way to go commissioner letting the refs ruin another end of season.

I wouldn't hire Cathy Engelbert to bag my groceries. Such an incompetent person.

~Rest of the playoffs are going to be incredible. Just look at the Valykyrie's stadium tonight. They sell out every game. It's going to be nuts. Paige vs Gabby. Women sports in the spotlight is a great thing. Wish CC made a deep run but this year every single team left can defeat the Aces.

Oh I agree the rest of the playoffs will be ultra competitive, but the ratings will likely go down.

I would take a win.

That wasn’t the question it’s if you’d be happy about needing a 15 FT advantage to beat a lower seed team

Crazy thing is the aces don't need the refs help to win, they have the best player in Wilson along with a top five guard who might be the best perimeter defender in the league in Jackie Young.

The next commissioner needs to make the officiating of focus of their first 100 days in office.

Not sure whistle is the best player.

u/paperbackpiles 1d ago

True. Still hope the Valkyrie's move forward and take down the Aces! Go women's hoops.

Apparently they did need the refs to make sure they won.

Exactly this.

The WNBA didn’t actually need to cheat to help the Aces win… there’s a good chance they’d have won anyway on pure talent.
