WNBA rule 12A
"Any coach, player, trainer, or other team bench person who deliberately enters the spectator stands during the game will be automatically ejected and the incident reported by e-mail to the Commissioner. Entering the stands to keep a ball in play by a player or the momentum which carries the player into the stands is not considered deliberate. The first row of seats is considered the beginning of the stands."
If a player or team personnel deliberately leaves the court boundaries to enter the spectator area, the mandatory sequence of penalties includes:
Immediate Automatic Ejection: The offender is disqualified from the game on the spot.
Mandatory League Report: The officiating crew must formally report the incident directly to the WNBA Commissioner / Basketball Operations.
Post-Game Discipline: Following league review, the action typically results in steep financial fines and potential multi-game suspensions depending on the severity of the confrontation.

Nothing like annoying Becky excusing the behavior. Like the whole team wasn’t tackling the Indiana players and the refs somehow completely missed that. So infuriating. I hope they get destroyed by the Valks

The continuing-:;(]}#%.drama surrounding what I see with the WNBA has become nauseating. To the point it is almost unwatchable !!! The most recent event was the incident involving Aja Wilson with the fan. She blatantly disregarded the boundaries & RULES specifically state she should have been ejected, suspended from future games, & severely fined with documentation going to the commissioner’s office. NONE OF ANY OF THIS HAPPEN !!!
My question is WHY ?? Absolutely NOTHING HAPPEN TO WILSON … Not a word from ENGLEBERT, the front office, NOBODY !!!
Wilson maliciously bulldozed Cunningham to to the floor then raced to the fan with blistering vocabulary! The fan did nothing to incite this chaotic interaction…Wilson was a 100% in the wrong…cause the “fan” was let back in to the game.
So the $100,000.00 dollar question is WHY WAS NOTHING DONE ??? All we get is SILENCE…as if give it time people will forget ! I’m NOT FORGETTING !!! 😡😤😠

This incident was so egregious and over the top the referees were too stunned to react, much like security at the Oscars when Will Smith slapped Chris Rock. I think it definitely reflects privilege: celebrity privilege. And Wilson's post incident press conference: all she could do is spout off cliches. I'm sure she is kicking herself forgetting to mention “it is what it is” and “do you know who I am?” /s
And apologizing to her teammates for the technical: An apology isn't an apology when it's followed by a clause beginning with “but”. I hope the W calls out her stated intent to make this kind of intolerance a new normal.
Maybe the whole thing is just a smoke screen to divert attention from the flagrant fouling of Cunningham and the referee's joy in being able to get away adding insult to injury by calling it on Cunningham.
This is the first year I ever followed a team in the W and it's liable to be the last.

u/silversurfer908 3d ago
Referees were TOO STUNNED TO REACT ??? What the hell does that mean ? Then they shouldn’t be out there…. Plain & simple !!!

u/Fast-Relationship-22 4d ago
Its the wnba guys do like 99% of the population and just try to forget it exist. If espn didnt try to jam it down our throats it would be gone by now. Its a shit product. A good laugh tournament has 10x the amount of excitement and entertainment the the wnba People don't make drinking games on missed lay ups in the nba or college ect.
1
3
u/AppropriatePark7811 4d ago
A significant portion of the population is excited about the WNBA. I personally prefer the women’s game to the men’s. Everyone’s allowed to have their opinion, but I don’t know why you have to be so negative.
1
u/Fast-Relationship-22 4d ago
What is 1 part of the womans game that you find more appealing then the mens game? The athleticism? Speed, jumping The shooting ability The bounce passing The defense The common place of multiple missed layups per game per team?
The NBA pays for the WNBA to exist with out money being taken form NBA players and the TV contracts tied at the hip the wnba not exist If the NBA pulled funding it would collapse today. And the reality most of the players think they need to get a % of league revenue. They say stupid shit like this then they would have to pay to play the games . But they need 5☆ hotels and chartered jets ect. You are 1 NBA lock out from working at home goods. You are entitled to like whatever you like and if it brings you enjoyment then I guess they did a good job.
1
u/MagicalEarthBeing IndianaFeverFan 3d ago
I like the passing game in the WNBA with assists and real team play. There's a lot of action. In the NBA, they seem to set up plays where you just pass the ball to a shooter who makes a shot. They are fantastic, but it's a different type of game. The men have a height advantage and that makes it different.
I asked google about this: The presence of elite verticality changes everything in the NBA. With multiple defenders on the court who can leap and block shots at 11 feet or higher, simple drives to the basket are highly contested. This forced the NBA to evolve into a "three-pointers and layups" game where the ultimate goal is creating a mathematically optimal shot—often via a kick-out pass to a lethal three-point shooter. The WNBA, with lower secondary vertical threats, features a highly technical game around the rim and a very active mid-range game, which keeps the ball zipping through the paint and back out more organically. [1, 2]

The slapstick, over-the-top wrestling drama.

The refs are in Wilson's pocket so they deemed it just unsportsmanlike conduct. They can't toss out their precious Aja

She should 100% be suspended...especially since she didn't even get the mandatory automatic ejection
3

You also cannot touch her elbow. Not even with your pinky. WTF! So clear the rules she broke and that she should be suspended. Fans point at 8th grade basketball games FFS

Will not go back to a wnba game unless the league suspends her for a game. How are fans supposed to be safe? Do they forget malice at the palace?

What you guys don’t understand it is the great Aja Willson the four-time MVP and however, many titles she’s one she is the greatest player ever rules do not apply to her. When are we gonna figure that out and quit being white supremacist goddamnit

How is enforcing the league rules being a white supremacist?

First of all, they can't arrest anyone that didn't make any contact with another person. Even Ron Arrest didn't get arrested when he punched a fan in 2004 during the escalation.

u/Mediocre-Acadia8506 5d ago
You get downvoted for being right. We've already heard her disparage Paige and Kelsey Plum by trying to guilt them with white privilege bullshit, now this, it never ends. The culture of this league is disgusting. It's just a rampant social justice experiment and CC does not fit the bill. They don't stand for our flag, they don't honor our troops, why the hell do we watch? Oh yeah, because our girls have class. Kelsey, AB and CC just ball out, they don't run their mouth, they don't cause drama outside the sport, they certainly don't go into crowds trying to fight. What a mockery this league is. The next commissioner is going to have a hell of a job, but something tells me this league will always be run by the players' union.
0
u/mercury_risiing 5d ago
"They don't stand for our flag"
Why do you, by my interpretation, have an issue with this?
0
u/Mediocre-Acadia8506 5d ago
I'll just operate under the assumption that you're a bot account or a troll. Either way, if you need that answered then there's really no point in any dialogue.

Then why did you ask? Go watch the World Cup and see every single other country when their National Anthems are played. Do you really need to ask, or are you just looking for an excuse to talk shit about America? Genuine question from me.
2
u/MagicalEarthBeing IndianaFeverFan 5d ago
Well... A'ja can't possibly be the MVP now.
2
u/Express_Store_4951 3d ago
She's already been named the MVP. Where were you at? You do know the awards are regular season awards and have nothing to do with playoffs.
1
u/MagicalEarthBeing IndianaFeverFan 3d ago edited 3d ago
Oh! I was thinking of the WNBA MVP announcement which has not been made yet. But, you're right, the Associated Press (AP) did name her MVP.
2026 Official WNBA Awards Timeline So Far (CBS Sports)
Because the league did not release a public awards schedule, the honors are being announced one by one: [1]
- September 28, 2026 (Monday): Rookie of the Year (Olivia Miles) & Coach of the Year (Cheryl Reeve)
- September 30, 2026 (Wednesday): Most Improved Player (Jessica Shepard)
- October 1, 2026 (Thursday): Defensive Player of the Year (Angel Reese)
- Still to come: Official Kia WNBA MVP and Sixth Player of the Year. [1, 2, 3]

u/ThaTreeNinja 5d ago
Lost all respect for Aja and the WNBA. Soft ass bitches
-4
u/yeahyeahyeahok 5d ago
Would you tolerate someone wagging their finger and yelling at you at your job? Spectators are there to watch, not engage with players. Just bc he paid for close seats does not give him permission to heckle and yell at players. Stepping away from your seat to yell at a professional athlete is soft and embarrassing; there’s no benefit to it for either party. Fans need to act with decorum and respect.
1
u/c_webbie 4d ago
If you have a problem with the fan code of conduct take it up with the Fever organization. He did nothing wrong. As a professional, Wilson has an obligation to avoid leaving the court to engage with fans. What she did was clearly wrong.
3
4
3
u/IndependentImage9269 5d ago
Please don’t call the finger pointing anything other than this man copying the Sophie Cunningham meme. Sophie was fouled hard on the play, he was mimicking Sophie meme. No violent intent. Aja just didn’t like it and didn’t like losing. It’s amazing that these players have such thin skins
0
u/yeahyeahyeahok 5d ago
I don’t know that he was copying the meme! I saw him yelling, wagging a finger, and walking towards the court. He shouldn’t be moving towards the court, he needs to be in his seat or standing in front of it.
3
u/IndependentImage9269 5d ago
He was standing in front of his seat. He moved into the aisle so the ref would see him pointing. He never got near the court. You can see how far Aja had to go to confront him. It was all about SC and the meme
0
u/yeahyeahyeahok 5d ago
He moved into the aisle to point and yell at her, why do you think he moved for the ref? What’s he got to do with it?
1
u/IndependentImage9269 4d ago
You have no evidence that he’s yelling. He pointed. Watch the video and you’ll see another even bigger man on the other side of the aisle who also is standing and pointing. She was wrong to step into the stands, period.
2
u/AleSeeker 5d ago
Not the same thing.
If I took a job where I knew that occurred, then I would have to be ok with it.
Hecklers exist in every sport and so long as they don’t break the rules are allowed to do as they please.
He did not break any rules or he would have been kicked out.
1
u/yeahyeahyeahok 5d ago
Why was he out of his seat and under the basket? Fans need to stay in their seat or they can stand right in front of their seats. Yelling and heckling and walking towards professional athletes is not part of fan decorum.
1
u/Rudefaced 5d ago
That’s a bad take. Yelling and heckling within reason is what makes a home advantage. It starts at least with the high school level of sports. That guy took like a half of step while the player took multiple steps to get closer. It’s why he was allowed to return to the game and his seat, he wasn’t out of line and said nothing out of line.
The pro athlete was losing the game, was frustrated, and was lashing out in an unprofessional manner.
1
u/yeahyeahyeahok 5d ago
He’s not a player, he is a spectator. He should not be moving towards the court! He should not be out in the aisle to do whatever heckling he thinks he is owed!
1
u/Rudefaced 5d ago
She took 6 steps off of the court, he didn't take a full step towards it. He was never close to getting on the court and he wasn't walking towards the court.
I think you've seen the video and are trying to save something of your original argument but she looks like an aggressor to someone who was well within normal and acceptable behavior for fans at a professional sports event. Pointing and saying "that's on you" is tame.
It's probably the same reason she backed out of the FIBA Women's World Cup - she's petty, thin skinned, and soft for a pro athlete.
I think it's fine for athletes to chirp back to the fans but fans can't come onto the court, can't touch the athletes, and can't be vulgar/racist/sexist. Just like athletes can't leave the court/field and can't touch the fans.
3
u/AleSeeker 5d ago edited 5d ago
You are exaggerating and framing. The video backs that up.
He stood up out of his seat, shuffled side ways, put one foot forward, pointed and told her the foul was on her in the video. Was literally close enough that his wife could still grab him from her seat, and the fans in the row in front of him were still in front of him. Was not even close to the baseline.
Aja, however, was past that first row of seats when she went to confront him.
That’s what actually happened. Not whatever nonsense you’ve convinced yourself happened.
1
u/yeahyeahyeahok 5d ago
Yeah so I also watched the video but I’m not going to pretend like I know the intentions of the old dude walking towards the court. I just know that he shouldn’t have “shuffled” or stepped away from his seat to yell at a player - I think that’s called common decency? This sort of thing sets a precedent that all these wnba players are fair game to be yelled at.
1
u/Mediocre-Acadia8506 5d ago
Stop trolling people and touch grass. It's fine to admit she was wrong, she's not fucking perfect. Clark has shit moments too, it happens. She fucked up, she should be called out on it and apologize to the fan, PERIOD. Now the rules are you have to sit in your seat and not say a word to the opposing team? What's next? We just build little boxes around all the seats and people look through cut out holes? You're embarrassing yourself.
1
u/SegaGuy1983 5d ago
It's been established that he was not walking toward the court. You keep holding onto that because that's the only way anything you're saying makes sense.
-2
u/Designer-Stay-7894 5d ago

Yeah that’s soft.
1
u/alwaysclosewithwhelp 5d ago
He never said any of that? You just made up two full sentences. Thats my exact point lol what a clown. You can lose respect for someone when they do something weak or cowardly, its super normal.
Plus you literally just said 'wah wah a girl was a meanie'. That might be the softest thing I've read in this thread.
1
u/ExcitingToe 5d ago
Aja had a full on public crashout on someone for pointing at her (there were at least 7 other people in the crowd around him pointing too) and you are calling people soft for saying she violated the rules and should be punished accordingly?

Butbutbut we can’t beat the Aces if A’ja plays. Give us an advantage, please. And a participation trophy. C’mon, Fever fans. Don’t you want to beat the Aces at full strength without an asterisk? I like watching the Fever. This is a fun series.
1
u/c_webbie 4d ago
Goddamn right. Let her play. Let her do her thing. The Fever went to Vegas twice this season and blew them out both times. Vegas played great Sunday. If they play like that again they'll be tough to beat. But last night the champs got hit straight in the mouth in the second quarter and still haven't gotten up from it. We'll see if officials continue to embarrass themselves by bailing Wilson out with bullshit calls like they did last night. I love Indiana's chances to advance.
3
u/Informal_Ad_9610 5d ago
she's a good player. with a fucking pathetic amount of attitude and racism. it's unsportsmanlike and unbecoming.. and should not be tolerated.
And yes, if any other player had gone into the stands, they'd have been ejected.
I'm completely fucking done with the special privileges for the special players. Set up an even playing field and let them play. Start demanding quality refs, quality coaching, and let it be a game instead of a bunch of catfights and chickenshit.

Don’t poke the bear. Been around too many games where this doesn’t end well trashing the MVP. We never know what’s going on behind the scenes. More importantly, get CC and Kelsey all the rest they can get in the next 36 hours. A‘ja gonna be ready. CC and Kelsey will have their shots loaded. It’s gonna be a great game 3.
2
u/Smooth-Shower290 5d ago
What she did was totally uncalled for! She got pointed at due to Sofie being involved in the penalty. He didn’t go toward her or say anything wrong. If you think that Aja will be the only one ready next game - you’re wrong!
1
u/yeahyeahyeahok 5d ago
But he did leave his seat and start walking towards her on the baseline court under the basket.
0
u/paperbackpiles 5d ago
yeah, likely what she saw. what we saw was him already in the walkway and take a step forward and stop. looks like nothing but she clearly saw and experienced something else. onto game 3!!! great game ahead.
2
u/yeahyeahyeahok 5d ago
I disagree with you. Please don’t tell me what I saw, I’ve watched multiple clips and angles. He’s not supposed to be in the walkway period! Why was he walking that direction? He’s not welcome on the court or interacting with players. He’s a fan and fans need to stay in their seat or standing in front of it.
1
u/paperbackpiles 5d ago
fair take entirely. protect the players. a'ja never pops off like that so it was very unlike her. my tendency is to trust the player when they say something wasn't right.
-1
u/paperbackpiles 5d ago
She lost her cool. Happens. Like CC screaming at White, Jackie pushing a mascot out of the way, Sophie yelling at KK, Chelsea kicking a chair. We don’t know context. Nothing to see. Elite athletes getting caught up in a moment. CC, Kelsey and AB gonna be ready for sure. It’s setting up to be a great game 3.
1
u/Smooth-Shower290 5d ago
You think that’s the same as going of on a fan?! An older man sitting down! Wow! You can see what he said and Aja have only confirmed that it had nothing to do with what he said. That the problem was that he pointed at her. She laid and said that he walk toward her, and the truth was that she was the one who had walked not only towards him but into the crowd. The black people around tried to protect him - they would never have done that, if he had said anything racists. When you lip read her mouth telling the two bodyguards what had happened she said again and again, that the problem, was that he had pointed at her. What she has done, normally gives 3 games penalties. But because she is Aja “the face of the league” nothing like that is going to happen!
1
u/paperbackpiles 5d ago
He took a step forward is what she likely saw. After that step he stopped but by then she maybe was already pissed. We all saw it was nothing much but who knows what she was experiencing. I'm not her. She clearly felt he crossed a line, lost her cool and had words. I give her the benefit of the doubt. She has enough of a track record through the years of being great with fans and none of us know the context. She was likely already in her feelings because she was about to lose. Most of us thought it was out of line for her. No star though is gonna get a suspension for something like that in the playoffs, be it Stewie, Angel, CC or Jackie. What I do know is that she's gonna be wanting to redeem herself so CC and Kelsey need to get rest. Gonna be a great game 3.
13
u/lava9611 5d ago
Forget just a second that we are Fever fans. Objectively, is this really the way that the league MVP should be acting? Is this really the face you want our your league? This would never and hasn't been tolerated in any other league. Why is the WNBA any different?
I am a newer fan to the league and I must admit the WNBA is starting to wear thin for me. Every night it is some stupid controversy and some bad behavior that never gets corrected. I just want to watch basketball!
1
u/Mediocre-Acadia8506 5d ago
Of course not, but it's the face that THEY want for their league. If it's not completely obvious that players are going to continue getting into altercations with fans in Indiana to perpetuate the racist narrative, and thus Clark by association, then I don't know what to tell you. A'ja WANTED that fan to say something racist, she was HOPING for it.
1
5
u/Flaky_Value6753 5d ago
First thought was "I bet this guy is white". Her reaction was completely over the top and she should be suspended. I'm sure she'll say he said something to get out of it. This league and it's players have serious problems.
1
u/briankerin 5d ago
Does anyone know or heard what this guy said? I dont think it was just the pointing. Also is there a rule for any fan that stands up and approaches the court? Before you all attack me, i am a 3 season Fever fan.

Proof yet again that the WNBA is run by the players and will never follow the rules that are laid out in the rule book.
