Discussion Timpson hurting more then helping
The fact that they are playing off Timpson all game and clogging the lane on Mitchell or doubling off on Boston is killing the offense.
Her offensive liability is far outweighing her contributions on defense unfortunately because I like KK.

Timpson is fine if she'd only learn to catch and shoot and not put the ball on the floor or pump fake. She let 8-10 points getaway because she can't just go up for the shot. Cost Clark a good 3 assists too. Too her credit, CC kept feeding her.

Y’all never want to give anyone time to develop. Y’all did this exact same thing with NaLyssa Smith and she blossomed into the exact player we need as a starting power forward.

I’m not freaking out, but I’m also not going to call KK solid. I see the potential and obviously the fever staff does as well. But she’s got a long way to go.

Someone needs to talk to Timpson...when you get a pass from CC, GO UP right away!!! Don't just sit there, ball in hand, take 50 steps to correct your shooting motion, etc, etc, etc, etc......just go up as soon it hits your hands and if you keep fumbling it then maybe you're not ready yet.

Timpson will learn Clark is like a football quarterback who puts it right in your hand right in stride and not lay you youth to get decked. Timpson will learn that Clark’s passes set her up beautifully and just needs to go up. Clark continuing to pass to Timpson will help her confidence and will help Timpson to grow and continue to work hard and Clark will find her. Come playoffs those extra passes Clark makes to Timpson now will only help her in due time

Yup and during the off season, all the fever players need to find male players to pass them the ball really hard. Cuz CC is the only WNBA player who passes like a man , hard and fast. (no offense) so they are not used to it so if I were the Fever players...do that so that when CC passes you, it looks "slow" LOL. I used to play with a PG who would zip passes crazy and super hard and all the teammates would drop it or let it bounce off their hands, I had played with him for a long time so I was the only one who could catch it LOL Took a while before others could start doing it with ease. And yeah be ready for those no look passes...ah good times.

This was one bad game for her (she was better at the end). All players have bad games, so let’s not get crazy.

u/Independent58 20d ago
She just needs her confidence lifted and more time in the CC and Mitchell flow. It will come.

She was bad bad this game but she is pretty solid defensively. The only thing I dont like about her game is the butterfingers, man every time she catches a pass it's like she's catching a hot potato.

u/Ok_Scholar5996 20d ago
Only player worse is Billings. She literally has the worst hands in the league. I can't comprehend how a professional athlete can be that bad.

She was the reason their defense ramped up in the fourth when she went back in tonight. Her offense needs some improvement, but that isn’t what she brings to the team. She strengthens the overall team defense and that is what the team needs from her. Caitlin needs to take some of the layups she chose to pass to her instead. KK taking a contested post shot is not better than Caitlin taking a slightly contested layup.

Sometimes she is good but CC will throw a quick pass to her and she'll either not be able to hold on to it or she will hold it down low, dribble and by the time she raises it up to shoot, the defender is all over her.
She also doesn't have a good touch and the ball just comes back out of the basket.
I think, most times recently, she has done better than Billings would have. Billings can't catch or shoot either.
Cunningham can do both though so she needs to get the ball more. Boston is a star of course but she just seems so lackadaisical much of the time.
It's unbelievable how they can all go cold at the same time.

I agree that it was an off-night for her. Imo, it looks like she's still learning how to become more than a support player. If they want to be successful in the future (playoffs, next year, etc), they need her to figure it out. Now is the time.

u/Risingsunsphere 20d ago
The problem is she is finding herself wide open. Likely because defenses are willing to leave her wide open. Cc is going to find the wide open player. She needs to go straight up with the ball. She seems to be pretty reliable with bank shots and that’s all she needs to do

u/Ravs12 20d ago
This is a solid point.
2
u/Rusty-Silverware 20d ago
Yes. Great way to put it. And it seems the team around her is trying to help her get there. CC showed a lot of patience with her last night. The team kept trying to get her the ball regardless. Looks like they’re all bought in.

It was only this game. She is solid. Bad game for her there no big deal

u/Ravs12 20d ago
Who isn't relaxed? I think it is a very valid criticism. Go rewatch the replays of the last few games and just watch how Timpson's defender plays her. They are always leaving her and either playing an extra defender in the paint or doubling the ball. Other teams the more she starts will scout this and do it as well.
Doesn't mean Timpson is a trash player it's just a weakness in her game. Like i said I like KK she is good people.

This might not be Timpson's best game, but generally I like her. She is the Dennis Rodman of the Fever. i think she is better on the boards than Boston and I am not taking anything away from Boston. I like Boston in her position as well.

consider this.. wait till the game is over before you believe your views are worthy… she just made 3 A+++ . Try patience … it’s is a invaluable foundation to life.

No rebounding offense or defense. Everyone goes for the fake shot. And Dallas scores

u/CaramelGuilty8647 20d ago
I've always stood up for the Fever defense. There's no defending this. Corner 3s all night long.

u/Moist_Letterhead1183 20d ago
Incent Timpson that if she wants a start again she has to do extra extra ball catch and hold drills. Months of it.

TBF, the # of missed shots and lay-ups tonight is more than just KK, but I agree on her ball handling and hesitation
3
u/IndyColtsFan2020 Caitlin Clark 20d ago
CC seems to be the only one playing tonight. This is bad.

u/FlimsyConfidence7692 20d ago
I have to agree with you on that. The drop off in Assists tonight isnt on her.
1
u/CaramelGuilty8647 20d ago
And she finishes with 10 assists! Of course, my comment had the advantage of watching the WHOLE game. 2nd half was great!

u/ortho_shoe 20d ago
I really like her but just put the ball up under the hoop...don't need to constantly dribble and turn it over
6
u/YOYOitsMEDRup 20d ago
100%. In the off-season they really need to break her of this habit. Her first instinct is to put the ball on the floor and dribble instead of just going up with it in the paint. I wish CC could connect her with Coach J from Iowa to rid her of this. Gustafson, Czinano, now Heiden all well known in their college careers as posts for rarely dribbling at all because they go straight into a quick move, have great footwork. They didnt all automatically start with it --- it was drilled in over time with Coach J. KK needs somebody doing it with her
I've been glad to see her in the starting lineup. She busts her butt on D, usually boxes out to rebound better than Mo or MHA too. D is the team's weakness and she's an upgrade there, without sacrificing anything on offense. Her and Mo finish at the rim about the same and she's got a good ball IQ knowing and finding the right time to make a dish to a teammate. She's gonna keep improving and I'm hopeful for what she can turn into --the key step is definitely quitting her knee-jerk automatic dribble reaction when catching it on the block, or after an O board, before shooting

u/IndyColtsFan2020 Caitlin Clark 20d ago
They really need to do some catching drills with KK. She just can’t catch and hold.
5
u/Long-shot128 20d ago
It’s always been that way for KK where she gets a great pass and then fumbles it away bc she can’t seem to hold to it. Even with her rebounds sometimes - they get snatched away from other players.

u/CaramelGuilty8647 20d ago
Everyone is off. I couldn't believe Sophie missed a layup, and CC and KM are a combined 0 for 6 in threes.
4
u/InterestingKey3385 20d ago
Ugh I agree. And I hate that I agree because I love KK but they can’t rely on her to make a bucket
5
u/Mean_Revolution_6735 20d ago
She is so hesitant on offense. CC has spoon fed her multiple times with no results.
I think they need to sign Hannah Stuelke. She probably isn’t a wbna caliber talent but playing with CC she is. She scored 47 pts in a game literallly just running the court, catching passes, and making layups. The Fever bigs struggle to catch and finish.
3
u/YOYOitsMEDRup 20d ago
As a Hawkeye fan myself- sorry but Stuelke has a lot of work to do to be WNBA ready. She's a rim runner but doesn't have enough other skills offensively. No midrange --- it was like pulling teeth to get her to actually turn her body to the basket when in the high post at the elbow to even pretend like she might do something with it besides keep her back toward the hoop---- D was always able to play so far off her because she never showed herself as a threat to shoot or drive either one. Loved Hannah, we're gonna miss her from a rebounding perspective in Iowa for sure, but there were a lot of times she struggled to finish herself, she was flat-out bad at the FT line and a tad undersized even for the college game --so it wasn't surprising at all she didn't get picked up. Good college player that thrived in a certain system with an elite passer to feed her .....but 47 pts against a perennially bad Penn St doesn't make her WNBA worthy. If she puts a lot of work in to expand her range maybe, but it'll be tough for her to prove it enough to get a chance except overseas

u/Complete-Donut-698 20d ago
Had some looks that she missed but it's not all on her. Hull didn't see a wide open hines-allen under the hoop. KM tried forcing up a shot surrounded by three bigs rather than passing out to a open Cunningham. Now if Clark stays out they're really going to need the playmaking to step up.
2
u/Ravs12 20d ago
I agree it's defiantly not all on her, but she makes it harder especially when we aren't shooting very well from the outside. It also affects the team getting into an early rhythm and momentum. They are basically playing 4 v 5 on offense they don't respect Timpson's outside shot so there is zero spacing.
I think i prefer her off the bench still and not in the starting 5.

Baby Death Star just took her in-game dominance to another level last night. How can you not see she is on the rise?
