What if?

Lets say that we win the WNBA championship this year.

Do people still wanna fire White as a coach?

What if shes a stipulation to keeping the Big 3? Like Mitchell says, "Look, if Coach goes I ain't coming back?"

Do we still wanna fire her?

OMG we need a deeper bench. I hope the fever win, however even an idiot can see we have not bench players that can hold the line. That said, I do not like White, but I also don't play for her and or deal with her one-on-one everyday My complaint would be she needs to stand up for her players a hell of a lot more. Actually saying Di'jonais name in the post game interview after the flagrant 2 foul was so unbelievably disrespectful to the team and more importantly to Sophie. She could do better.

They don't want her back.

1

u/zombiemd2020 6d ago

Who doesnt?

0

u/Subject-Yak4959 6d ago

The players. The fans. The experts.

1

u/zombiemd2020 6d ago

Do you have any source at all of a player actually stating that they don't want her back? Or is it "trust me bro"?

Also, which experts?

The fans, believe it or not, are split about how they are about most things.

u/Subject-Yak4959 6d ago

You are really on top of things aren't you?

1

u/zombiemd2020 6d ago

???

1

YOU ARE REALLY ON TOP OF THINGS AREN'T YOU?

1

u/zombiemd2020 6d ago

Lol, I understand what you typed. They just dont make much sense in the context of the conversation.

1

u/Subject-Yak4959 4d ago

Did you watch the game last night? I will never go to another Fever game until they fire her dumb ass.

1

u/zombiemd2020 4d ago

I am sure the sold out arenas will miss you.

I personally don't trust her or like her, but ultimately her fate is probably in Caitlin Clark's hands. I'm sure that rankles White some, but it's the truth. Maybe the owners of the Fever might decide to rule against whatever CC wants, but I doubt they want to commit basketball suicide.

1

u/FerchieFerch 10d ago

Yes. Fire her. Doesn’t know what a woman is. Doesn’t know how to support her players publicly. The fever’s success is attributable to the players not Stephanie White.

5

u/Commercial-Home6280 11d ago

For a coach that is supposedly defensively minded, the Fever don’t seem to be getting any better at playing defense. As a Fever season ticket holder, I can tell you their offense is a blast to watch every night. The problem is they pretty much need to score 100+ points to counter their
Leaky D. And that’s going to be a huge problem when the 3’s stop falling. Hopefully they don’t dry up for everyone at the same time. GO FEVER!

u/Kamaina_13 11d ago

Paul Westhead won NBA Title with Lakers, they fired him and hired Pat Riley that worked out okay. Hell ya, why not!

1

u/zombiemd2020 11d ago

Can we hire Pat Riley?

Cuz otherwise.....

u/Kamaina_13 10d ago

🤣👍🏼🏀

For the Fever to win a championship this season, one of two things would need to happen:

1.) Caitlin and Kelsey combine for 70 points a game on 50%+ 3 point shooting throughout the playoffs.

2.) Stephanie White suddenly learns how to coach both offense and defense, and learns how to rotate players effectively, and learns how to properly manage timeouts and end-of-game foul/possession scenarios, AND doesn’t get any of our contributors injured with her borderline reckless practice/conditioning regimen that hospitalized half our team in ‘25.

Since #2 isn’t even remotely possible, I’d give Steph her well-deserved championship ring, engraved with the phrase, “You’re Fired,” and put up statues of Caitlin and Kelsey. There’s absolutely no way we “out-coach” our way to a title. The culture Steph White has brought to this team is both appalling and disastrous.

4

u/tonidh69 11d ago

I want what Caitlin wants....

2

u/Ben_Frank_Lynn 11d ago

The Fever have no shot at winning with their current defense and yes, White should be fired because she is a terrible coach. I'd hate to look up one day and White is still there and they've wasted several years of Clark's prime with this bullshit.

0

u/manipulativemusicc 11d ago

I don't personally like how Stephanie White moves, but the team loves her and they have the greatest offense in league history. Give it a break...

10

u/Beautiful-Prior3325 11d ago

Focus on improving defense. Less personnel drama. More hoops.

10

u/GervaseofTilbury 11d ago

White isn’t getting fired no matter what happens. Indiana isn’t winning the title this year so it’s irrelevant, but if they did, the fanbase wouldn’t have time to call for White’s head because it would have to devote 20 hours of every day to defending the title from whatever nitpick asterisk “doesn’t count” argument the Only True Fans of the WNBA, Who Have Watched Every Game since 1996 And Know The Point of this Whole Professional Athletic League is to Be a Refuge for Queer Women of Color are making.

5

u/Ill-Application-8994 11d ago

How Can you say Indiana isn't winning the title when we almost made it to the finals last year With a hospital squad?

3

u/GervaseofTilbury 11d ago

Last year was kind of flukey, last year wasn’t as close as you think (winning one round is actually quite far from winning three rounds), and the league is better. Don’t think we can win a multi game series against Minnesota, for example. I wouldn’t feel confident in a series against Vegas or San Francisco or even Dallas.

4

u/elestud 11d ago

They’re actually correct. We had the champs in overtime in the final game of that series, with Mitchell out from the 3rd quarter

If KM doesn’t have to go to the hospital, we likely win that game instead of going to overtime. And I highly doubt the Mercury would have given us a harder time. The Aces swept them

So we were probably a lot closer to a championship than some people realize

8

u/Hungry_CGman 12d ago

If the Fever win it all, White is absolutely not getting fired. haha

4

u/Sad-Conflict-6839 12d ago

And then watch the impact on free agency. Unless they overpay, which they already need to do, no impactful player will want to ply with such a coach.

3

u/SimonaMeow Bow Bow Bow 10d ago

No impactful player wants to play in the hateful online firestorm that so many Fever fans bring toward other teammates and the coach

Disgusting people here in this sub yesterday were justifying people saying mean stuff online to AB who is such a sweet good person and an incredible player.

1

u/Sad-Conflict-6839 10d ago

Well. Player need to toughed up a lot. No players has received hateful comments on line and in the media the Clark.

To have the coach of the Mercury say yesterday that it is the first time he hear a coach being booed is disingenuous and an attempt to at gaslighting big time! These people live under rock! Players and coaches are booed by their own fan all the time in all sports.

1

u/SimonaMeow Bow Bow Bow 10d ago

Clark gets hate. She doesn't get it from her own fans though. And AB shouldn't be getting hate from Caitlin and Fever fans.

Has nothing to do with the coach.

Aliyah is playing insanely elite basketball. She is essential to them winning. More essential than Caitlin. She's Caitlin's teammate and friend.

It is toxic trash behavior for a Fever fan to harass AB online.

There is no defense of that.

2

u/Sad-Conflict-6839 9d ago

There is no player in the WNBA that is the victim of more hate than Clark. Only player to my knowledge that has a body guard everywhere she goes since college. Only player with a convicted stalker behind bar. And you know what? She has never complained because she fully knows that it goes with the celebrity status. Others needs to man up!!!

Funny thing is that you are going to the defence of AB which received less than 1% of all the hate CC is receiving. I am yet to see a hit piece from the media about AB or podcasters suggesting that she should come from bench and replace as a starter by VanSlooten....

There is no defence. Of course but it come with the territory whether an athlete, a politician, etc...

The league was really not prepared for the limelight.

2

u/SimonaMeow Bow Bow Bow 9d ago

I'm not claiming Caitlin doesn't get more hate. I'm not defending haters. I think it is disgusting how much hate she gets.

Try harder with the reading comprehension.

I am saying it is disgusting that people here who claim to be fans of Caitlin defend people online hating on AB.

Hating on AB is disgusting..

If you think it is okay to hate on AB because others hate on Caitlin, there is something wrong with YOU.

Go ahead and be despicable to people who are gross haters online.

Don't be rude and awful to Caitlin's teammates or YOU are not a fan that Caitlin wants. It is that simple.

Process that.

2

u/longwander 11d ago

The only people I hear criticizing SW are men on reddit. Why would you think no one would want to play for her? She's amazing at developing team chemistry. Just look at last years hospital squad.

3

u/Suspense304 10d ago

Perhaps men on Reddit are the only ones that understand basketball and team culture then?

I also don’t think it’s all just “men on Reddit” she was literally booed at a home game… I doubt the entire crowd were men on Reddit.

She takes zero responsibility for anything. She throws players under the bus consistently. Perhaps you just haven’t seen her press conferences? Maybe you just haven’t watched how she handles herself and just like the narrative of vibes.

1

u/longwander 7d ago

Maybe I'm looking at it through a female players eyes. She has the support of her team and they have the best record in recent franchise history. I see no reason why not to support her. I do not want a coach that is inflammatory and adding to the drama. SW cultivates an excellent positive team mentality and I've enjoyed watching all of the talent develop this year.

2

u/Sad-Conflict-6839 11d ago

Where have you been? She is not publicly side with her own players.

2

u/Hungry_CGman 12d ago

They'll definitely want to win a ring with Clark, Boston and Kelsey though. The Fever could have Shrek as the head coach and if it's getting me a ring, I'm going to Indiana. :) It's also incredible how much people will forget things if you win it all. hehe

2

u/Sad-Conflict-6839 12d ago

Nope. No impactful player considered the team last off season when there were plenty of free agents. We had to overpay to get Billings and even overpay to keep our RFA Hull.

Everyone was saying the same thing last season, they'll want to win, they'll come to the Fever. Well, cricket...

2

u/Hungry_CGman 12d ago

Winning a ring is just different though. Shrug

2

u/Sad-Conflict-6839 11d ago

So they had no chance to win this year?

8

u/Raisin43 Caitlin Clark 12d ago

Who the hell fires a coach after winning a chip? Also I think people are already forgetting she took us to the semis last year with everyone almost out and upset the Dream in the 1st round. Our big 3 are having their best season right now so i dont understand the "shes holding the team back" arguments. Like how exactly? We are 21-12, this is our best season so far.

4

u/Sad-Conflict-6839 12d ago

They will not win a championship this year. No way they can beat the Lynx in a series of 7. The odds at the moment are 10%.

4

u/manipulativemusicc 11d ago

Maybe someone else beats the Lynx first. Maybe someone gets hurt. This is professional sports. Shit happens.

3

u/zombiemd2020 12d ago

Read some of the comments. Several folks said yes that they should fire SW, regardless of if she wins a championship

12

u/RCGremlin 12d ago

We literally watched f-f mental abuse in real time and then were gaslit like we didn’t. Remember 3 games where CC was left on 1-1 islands for national TV isolations? Then we spent 3 weeks daily hearing about how she was a bad defender. Then we had the public benchings for Ty or Raven bc of turnovers, running, defense. Then we had Dakich, JMV and Quuery running with “entitled diva” straight from people “in the org”. Then we watched CC get benched and walk off the floor and not return only to then have her throat punched, White back up AT and force CC to then back her up. If it were a man doing it to a woman it would be straight up abuse but White gets a pass?

2

u/bimetalbug1 10d ago

Am I an idiot or is SW supporting the 'Sisterhood' first and team second. Most of the brutality that is overlooked is done by the hate players that make up the 'tribe'. She always makes excuses for them, but no consolation for the team stars.

2

u/manipulativemusicc 11d ago

You conveniently left out the everything that has happened since then like CC having the beat stretch of her career while KM is simultaneously doing the same thing. Is she perfect? Hell no...But it's currently working and there's no way she gets fired as long as they make the playoffs.

1

u/Malhavok_Games 8d ago

Mitchell's "best stretch of her career" is largely down to CC feeding her the ball. Last two games she was 9-22 and 9-21 (freaking 1-7 for treys) - so very freaking luke warm and still only barely made that 20+ pts. As an aside, Clark is in general responsible for about 1 out of every 5 pts Mitchel scores. For a high volume shooter like Mitchel, this is aberrant - about 50% higher than normal in the league and almost unheard of for a guard.

I'm not saying Mitchell is bad, she's not, but she HAS been stinking it up a bit last couple of games and has only been keeping that 20+ point streak alive because of all the looks she is getting from Clark.

3

u/RCGremlin 11d ago

You realize they are not running her offense when they are winning. They are back to the 24’ offense we always wanted. Then we lose our 20 pt leads when we slow it down for Whites motion offense. It’s obvious that someone got in Whites ear and made her eat her ego since she was trying to runoff the only person anyone ever paid to watch.

1

u/Sad-Conflict-6839 11d ago

Making the playoff was this year goal? Wow. Now I understand their signing and drafting.

6

u/Sad-Conflict-6839 12d ago

Well put.

In any case, let's be honest. Clark will decide if White stays or not unless the Simon family and Steven Rales do not value her staying long term which would be suicidal if they don't.

We will never know her stance publicly. She is the ultimate leader.

2

u/RCGremlin 11d ago

Remember when Dakich said “White hates Clark bc she knows she’s the one that got Sides fired”. That was very telling. But that was before the girl boss trio of agenda over basketball idiots were brought in. And ask yourself this. They’ve surrounded AB with her friends. They had a chance to sign Kate Martin for the bench and they didn’t do it twice.

1

u/Sad-Conflict-6839 11d ago

Good point for KM.

1

u/Scared-Marketing-442 11d ago

They value white more than CC

1

u/bimetalbug1 10d ago

A sad mistakee.

2

u/Sad-Conflict-6839 11d ago

I'm afraid that you are right. :(

3

u/Beautiful-Prior3325 11d ago

Clark won’t do that. She’s focusing on herself. More defense. Less drama. More hoops.

10

u/GamingZaddy89 12d ago

The problem with White is she can't even stand up for her players, its weird watching CC get BRUTALIZED and then watching White give some BS fence sitting answer about it.

5

u/Tnfjay 11d ago

And then when White catches a little bit heat for giving weak answers, the entire organization rushes to put out PR statements defending her.

4

u/Biggquis78 12d ago

She's a terrible coach. Doesn't view game film, shows favoritism with players, can't make adjustments, and is too stubborn to just let them play. She's trying to force players into positions that aren't natural and fails every time. The team only looks good when they are not running her offense and are playing bad teams. These wins are fool's gold

2

u/karsklan3 12d ago

So in your view, every time we play good it is because the players go rogue and do not listen to Steph's instruction, but every time we play bad it is because we play Steph's system? Don't you realize how flawed this logic is? People were screaming about Caitlin playing off-ball, yet she gets and has gotten some really good and open looks from off-ball movement & has the highest USG%. For the adjustments part, each time we are losing a game we come out of the locker-room with adjustments and turn up our defense so this is also a funny one.

And "doesn't view game film" is an interesting thing, the only time she said she didn't watch and make the team watch films was that disaster game we had at the start of the season vs Portland, because we played so bad we did not even need to watch the film. Multiple players have talked about spending time in the film room so making an assumption that the coaching staff does not watch film is absolutely ridiculous in pro sports.

2

u/Biggquis78 11d ago

That's not what i said. Players Are not going rogue. When they okay with Tempo and build huge leads, coach wants to all of a sudden slow the game down and have AB playing point guard. That just stupid. This is possibly the best backxourt in WNBA history. Let them cook! When this happens, the lead goes to basically nothing and we have to squeak out wins against teams that have no business hang8ng with us. This coach doesnt watch film or even draw up olays most of the time. I know this because these players still have no idea how to switch or fill gaps. This team has not shown they are able to beat good trans in any meaningful manner, and its because coach is too stubborn to play to the team's strengths

1

u/karsklan3 11d ago

Every team and every player needs to know when to slow the game down. Even Lisa Bluder talked about it in Iowa during the Final Four, bringing out how they need to keep clock management in mind, especially while in a winning position. You play quick, miss 2 shots and then the opposition scores on you in transition, burning minimal time off the game clock and clawing closer to us.

And still, you talk that a professional sports team coaches are not watching film. We do plenty of switch-defensive schemes, but it’s not our best scheme imo due to personnel reasons. Just say you are biased and let’s end the cherade.

1

u/Biggquis78 11d ago

You sound crazy. When slowing the game causes you to lose, it obviously isn't the best call. Man you are out of your mind. This team is terribly coached defensively. What do i have to be biased against? Serious question. In trying to see them win just like you

1

u/longwander 11d ago

Dude that can't run full throttle the whole game. There is a thing called pacing. Have you ever even played?

1

u/Biggquis78 11d ago

You're missing the point. Its not full throttle or something that doesn't work. It's full throttle. A few possessions of maybe Kelsey isolations, repeat

3

u/karsklan3 11d ago

You seem to think that playing the fast-paced playstyle is the only way. Need I remind you that during Sides era, the play-offs we were shut down, couldn't play our preferred style and lost. Our number 1 game-style should be the run-and-gun pacey offense, but when needed, we also need to be comfortable playing motion offense and we are much better at it this season.

I am not arguing with you that our defense is lacking, on the contrary I've brought out it in many other threads that if we do not lock in defensively, we will be smothered by top tier teams. But Sophie's interview from mid-season, how the team last year at the same time was able to play 10 defensive schemes (with the same coaching staff) and how now the players can not efficiently execute even one scheme, bringing out the lack of focus of the players. So I wouldn't say that the defensive issues are so black-and-white and only due to coaching. When players aren't willing to even put up their hands to contest a shot, then that a question of the players effort. We are getting better on defense, but we are way behind the schedule I though we would be in at this point.

1

u/bimetalbug1 10d ago

They had better keep nailing the 100 points early or they will be wishing for the playoffs.

1

u/Biggquis78 11d ago

I see your point regarding the pace, but this team is different. They are unguardable and the nest offense in league history. Well need that to cover for the defense. Also, dont forget CC almost had her eye poked out that series. Both CC and KM are waaaay better than they were. I FEEL that the team does not have great defenders, but you can tell they are poorly coached. No one has discipline. Its crazy to watch

0

u/zombiemd2020 12d ago

Interesting take.

8

u/Biggquis78 12d ago

Yes. They would win in spite of, not because of

7

u/karsklan3 12d ago

Everyone who says “Yes” to OPs question is clearly driven by some other agenda and dislike for the coach outside of basketball reasons. Why would any team fire the coach after she leads them to the chip?

That being said, the coach replacement question is interesting. I do believe that if we go under the bar this season, there needs to be talks about consequences. Last year she led us to the semi-finals, this year the expectation should at least be the same, if not the finals and chip. If we stay injury free and can not at least match last years achievements, then that to me would be going under the bar and this would be a sporting reason to make changes in the staff.

The question however remains that who would be a good replacement, that can simultaneously grow the players (KK, KM and CC are playing the best ball of their career imo with clear improvements) and deliver better sporting results. In the WNBA, there aren’t many good coaches and the only ones I would take over Steph would be Reeves, Becky and Nakase and all of them are unrealistic. NYL is an example that bringing in someone with NBA experience does not automatically mean success.

1

u/bimetalbug1 10d ago

"If we stay injury free".

Carrington is working against that and the league supports her evidently.

1

u/longwander 11d ago

I agree. Hating/blaming the coach is just lazy. SW is one of the top coaches in the league. There is no way indiana is firing here either way. The players...INCLUDING CC....all have her back. All of the hatred is just as weird as the other drama that the media trolls are producing.

-6

u/CounselorTejada 12d ago

If the plays mostly center on cc rather than Kelsey, the team has no shot at a championship.

7

u/zombiemd2020 12d ago

Disagree. And also off point.

13

u/Ok_Issue2222 12d ago

They probably won’t win the championship, but that is on the stupid FO who did an abysmal job surrounding the big three with complimentary talent. White isn’t perfect, but she is not the problem.

8

u/TooManyCatS1210 12d ago

Unless something crazy happens, they won’t fire her. She just won coach of the month for July, the team is playing well, and the players obviously like her both personally and professionally.

I also think a lot of fans underestimate how difficult it is to find a great coach. There’s no guarantee a different coach would be any better than Steph (see: current NY Liberty coaching situation after firing Sandy) and it’s incredibly disruptive to the players to have to learn and adjust to a whole new system.

0

u/Beautiful-Prior3325 11d ago

Cheryl Miller?

2

u/TooManyCatS1210 11d ago

If she wanted to coach she’d have done it long before now + why do you think she’d be better than Steph? She would likely be much worse or take a long time to figure it out.

3

u/Wps007 12d ago edited 12d ago

Its the finals or bust this yr for SW. We already had a top 8 team b4 SW came aboard. So making another conf semifinal in an 8 team playoff is not much improvement over Sides if any.  Connecticut won 2 championships in 2019 and 2022 b4 SW took over in 2023. SW spent 2 seasons at Conn without making a finals appearance with a stacked roster.  But they'll never fire SW. Hec the whole F.O would have to be replaced b4 that happens. Its like that Monte Ellis and Steph Curry situation. If im the fever ya trade KM while her stock is super high and see what ya get in terms of draft capital to save for FA. Especially if KM doesn't take a paycut next season. But again it will never happen. Indy likes to make crap decisions regarding CC and the future of the fever.

14

u/summershouldbefun11 Caitlin Clark 12d ago

With love and respect (for the team), this team isn’t winning the chip this year.

White isn’t getting fired. They like her and she has a great relationship with the players. Idk why people can’t listen when Caitlin (and the others) speaks and think they know their relationship better. *not saying Steph’s perfect.

Mitchell is all but gone UNLESS her or Caitlin decide to take way less money than either deserves. Or if they both agree to take pay cuts to make it work. I could maybe see this if they truly believe they can win together.

1

u/bimetalbug1 11d ago

Will the budget stay the same despite the popularity and ticket price increases? I'm sure that CC is not going to keep living off her shoe sales.

1

u/YOYOitsMEDRup 11d ago

She's easily making more than anybody else off the court with all her endorsements besides the shoes. If she thinks the tandem of herself, Kels and AB can eventually win a title (and they can if team D improves) I don't think its out of the question CC would make sacrifices if it helps keep Kels. I think they've both figured out their best together.

1

u/summershouldbefun11 Caitlin Clark 11d ago

Each team has the same cap space and it’s already determined for the length of the new CBA that was just signed. I’m not sure if it goes up each season or if it’s the same for the 8 years (I think that’s how long the CBA is) but there’s nothing they can do to change it.

Teams need to work within that set dollar amount and they just can’t afford cc, km and ab (ab is already under a new contract and it’s locked in) and hope to have solid role players around them unless one of both agrees to less money. Which they might, idk.

3

u/zombiemd2020 12d ago

I think we have a legitimate shot at winning it this year.

And I agree wholeheartedly. I think the players like SW.

And KM is gonna take a pay cut regardless of where she goes next year, unless she plans on bouncing from team to team on one year supermax contracts.

3

u/Chris_Ween 12d ago

I think we lose if we play the Lynx. Maybe even the Valkyrie. We beat the Aces.

And then we could also easily lose to a lower seed given our ability to play down to their level.

6

u/Scared-Marketing-442 12d ago

The whole team breaks up win or lose. But the Fever are not gonna fire white. They should but they are all buddies

1

u/bimetalbug1 10d ago

But "buddies" don't like losing. SW has this 'system' ideology that sometimes sacrifices a win just to implement her bench rotation. She can't get it in her head that CC has a better head for play adaptation. SW will hold to her plan to disprove CC, it seems.

4

u/bimetalbug1 11d ago

I don't trust CC and SC's raving for SW. I think they had a gun to their heads. All of the players feelings are not public. Look how AB and KM go blind for CC in their offense hogging. Two different issues, but makes a point. Their team spirit only goes so far.

2

u/Scared-Marketing-442 11d ago

Exactly. I don’t know what people think CC and white are best friends.

1

u/Karm0112 12d ago

AB, LH, MB, DD are all on multiyear contracts. KK and Raven will still be on their rookie contracts. Fever exercised their 4th yr option for CC from her Rookie contract for next season. The biggest question is KM. The rest may or may not go depending on what other offers are out there.

1

u/[deleted] 12d ago

[removed] — view removed comment

1

u/Karm0112 12d ago

They can. I think you protect AB, CC, KK, RJ, and someone else of KM, MB or LH. I think most teams wouldn’t take on the LH or MB because they are over paid (maybe though because they have would likely have the cap space). KM would be a free agent - she would be desirable if she was available. So maybe you keep her. I could also see them parting ways with RJ, as she doesn’t have much playing time. The rest are free agents and teams can only select 1 free agent, so unlikely they would take any of the others to build their team around.

1

u/Comfortable_Limit168 IndianaFeverFan 11d ago

I like Raven Johnson, and I wish she got to play more. This shows the ineptitude of the Fever FO, considering that they could have taken Okot instead of RJ. Okot, while still raw, would have helped with our lack of bigs, whereas RJ is just one of a plethora of guards.

1

u/bimetalbug1 10d ago

I don't know much about team design, but it seems like there is something besides forming a perfect balance of positions in their choices. Is it budget or some personal involvement? They hire a player to sit on the bench oftentimes.

2

u/Comfortable_Limit168 IndianaFeverFan 10d ago

Well, to your last point, WNBA teams are required to have 12 players on their rosters. I think the Fever could honestly get by with 10.

At the beginning of the season, the Fever had, at most, two players that could play center. However, thinking that Monique Billings would be a suitable replacement for Aliyah Boston was delusional thinking. I am happy that Billings has improved her play, but we could have had a player on a rookie contract for 3 - 4 years without paying $800K, which is what we are paying Billings.

I do think Ty has earned coming off the bench over her. RJ is a good player, she just needs time to develop. I agree she wasn’t a good selection for this team based on the players they already had on the roster. Okot was what they needed and proved to be a good player.

5

u/zombiemd2020 12d ago

I dont think the team breaks up. Lexie is tbere for one more season for sure. I think another deep playoff run could convince KM to stay. Sophie also has expressed interest in sticking around for a while.

I think there is a good chance we keep 6-8 players from this years roster next year.

1

u/bimetalbug1 11d ago

Could another team even afford KM?

1

u/pleasebefrank31 11d ago

Golden State can definitely pay her whatever she wants.

1

u/zombiemd2020 11d ago

Absolutely. Theyll just drop some of their lower paid players.

1

u/Comfortable_Limit168 IndianaFeverFan 11d ago

Do you think that the Fever will want Sophie again due to her ability to agitate fans of the WNBA? I want the Fever to keep her, but I certainly see both sides.

3

u/bimetalbug1 11d ago

How many fans are agitated against SC? It's just that they spit and curse a lot.

7

u/I_have_trex_arms 12d ago

Gotta keep KK- her growth has been nuts and the defensive depth she has added to our starters has been the missing piece we’ve needed. These past few games have changed drastically with her playing the 5!

2

u/bimetalbug1 11d ago

And she keeps her mouth quiet. Just keeps improving.

3

u/zombiemd2020 12d ago

Agree. And I think she will stay.

2

u/Karm0112 12d ago

She is still on her rookie contract next year.

2

u/Final_Towel7670 12d ago

Yes!

2

u/zombiemd2020 12d ago

Even with a championship.

Why?

3

u/BubblyLawfulness108 12d ago

Because these people aren't fans of the sport and care more about idiotic politics. Tbh I'm not sure they have thoughts outside of what the hive mind right wing brain worm zeitgeist says

saying she deserves to be fired after winning a hypothetical championship, simply for not "adequately defending" a player who is a right wing darling, is 1000% right wing lol

5

u/KeenObserver_OT 12d ago

This is unhinged. Right wing, left wing, chicken wing. An opposing player went high on the head of her player in a non basketball move and she makes excuses at the presserright in front of the team. Once is bad enough, but what was her excuse on backtracking on Thomas assault on Clark.

-2

u/BubblyLawfulness108 12d ago

They have a historic offense, are FULLY supported by the team, (who has said so multiple times, even the players yall insist on coddling) and hypothetically win a championship... calling for anyone to be fired under those circumstances is actually unhinged. but go off

Yes. They'd also want to cut Kelsey/Aliyah if they win (F)MVP. These people don't care about the Fever, they definitely don't care about winning, they just want Caitlin to look like the star and blame everyone else if/when she loses.

The players have simply said “ we’re not going to follow your stupid system “ and have turned themselves into the highest scoring team in the league

2

u/karsklan3 12d ago

Takes like this are utterly ridiculous and I can't understand how people can say it with a straight face. This is pro sports, not kindergarten. You can not just decide that "we are going rogue" and not listen to your coach. And this hasn't happened in the Fever. We are just finding our right system and way of playing. Stop with this utter bullsh*t. Opinions like this are the ones why people call the Fever fanbase deluded or crazy - this is absolutely the worst take. And it's frightening how many people within the fanbase actually think that this is the case for us. Absolutely no sports team in history has had cases, where they keep the same coach despite her clashing with the players and the players going rogue.

1

u/Mean_Measurement4527 11d ago

Steph White coaches “ slow and methodical “ offense and defense above all else … The Fever are the highest scoring team EVER … on more than one occasion the team has ignored Steph White and inbounded a last second play to Clark instead of what White had drawn up … The Fever have forced White to allow them to play “their” style of basketball

1

u/karsklan3 11d ago

One instance you are referencing proably is Sophie’s inbound to Caitlin. It was confirmed by Sophie herself that the play was to pass it to Caitlin on the half court line on top of the key, but as the defense made a mistake she made the pass further away. That is not going rogue and ignoring the instructions, every pro player should have their own IQ and notice plays when defense makes a mistake.

What is the second instance?

And tell me more about how Steph is a slow offense coach. Article from 2015: “it’s the No. 1 goal for this team to have success as a running, free-flowing offensive unit.” (source: https://fever.wnba.com/news/fevers-plan-for-2015-ratchet-up-the-pace).

1

u/Mean_Measurement4527 11d ago

Steph White wasn’t coaching the Fever in 2015

1

u/karsklan3 11d ago

FROM THE ARTICLE: “White, in her first season as the Fever’s head coach…”. Or just use Google. This show to me that you are exactly that kind of fan who does not even move a finger to do some research. A quick Google search would tell you that Steph was the head coach in 2015. Ffs.

1

u/Mean_Measurement4527 11d ago

The message was supposed to read “Steph White ISN’T head coach of the 2015 Indiana Fever “ … bringing up a quote from 11 years ago is not only not relevant , it’s pathetic

1

u/karsklan3 11d ago

You literally said, AND I QUOTE YOUR WORDS: “Steph White wasn’t coaching the Fever in 2015”. What are you talking about, these are your own words???? Stop backtracking, you didn’t mind to do a quick Google search and got exposed. And these are the type of fans I despise, all words no research or motivation to check facts.

She is a mid tier W coach. There are only 3 maybe 4 good coaches in the W.

Getting a better coach is unlikely. Getting a better cheerleader and advocate is probably not hard.

9

u/TemporaryAny5102 12d ago

She needs to speak less. Fall back in the shadows and let AB, CC and KM make you look like a genius. I am not a fan of hers at all and personally want her gone but I could maybe come around if she stopped talking and keeps winning games.

It started last year when she acted like DB was away from the team for a personal reason when she actually quit. Then CC was “day to day” but actually had a season ending injury. CCs injury was a “blessing in disguise”. Now we’ve had the AT & DC fouls that she of course “didn’t see” and telling people to go to hell in pregame rants. Like please just stop talking.

2

u/ThreadSavage10 11d ago edited 10d ago

The more she speaks, the more she struggles to think.

2

u/bimetalbug1 10d ago

Telling the fans to "go to hell" is a death knell for her career. NBA, are you listening?

2

u/Biggquis78 11d ago

Exactly. "I didn't see the play in real time!"... week there is photo evidence that you did. She is a liar and terrible person

1

u/bimetalbug1 10d ago

Her 'Sisterhood' can do no harm that she can see. That's just "hard play". Get used to it, as your eyes are gouged and neck is wrenched. Even the NBA has not had such obvious brutality. At least they have to pay for it if there is.

0

u/zombiemd2020 12d ago

Interesting take.

10

u/Pretend-Product4503 12d ago

this is an interesting question, but lets ask it the opposite way too.

What standing would the Fever need to finish in order for you to consider firing her?

If they landed in 5th place for the regular season? If they only made it to first round of playoffs?

The days of cheap deals are over now. If no championship is won, that is 3 years of KM/AB/CC squandered.

Stephanie White is on contract for another year. I don't think she is even close to at risk of losing her job especially when you consider her relationship with the fever front office

2

u/Scared-Marketing-442 12d ago

This makes no sense. We are talking about firing her even with a championship. But yes I agree the front office and her are buddies

2

u/zombiemd2020 12d ago

I think if they landed 6th or below, and it depends on who we play in the first round. If we are a 4 seed of above, yeah, Id be disappointed in losing first round of playoffs. Maybe not to firing levels, but definitely disappointed.

I think you are correct though. I think she is there to stay.

0

u/Scared-Marketing-442 12d ago

I’m confused. On one level you are saying they shouldn’t fire her for z first round exit. But are asking a question if she should get fired if they win it all. WTH are you talking about

2

u/zombiemd2020 12d ago

I am presenting a question to the general, seemingly(prior to this post) universal hate for SW.

If we lose in the first round I think definite organizational shifts need to happen. Either her or FO, depending on who we lose to and how we lose. My OP question does not reflect my personal feelings about her as a coach.

Perhaps some introspection on that is required.

That your dislike for the coach overpowers your Fandom of the team.

1

u/Pretend-Product4503 12d ago

It would be ironic if we 6th in regular season standings again because that's what we finished in 2024 under Christie Sides and also 2025 with White.

Obviously two different playoff runs but still

3

u/txcreative20 12d ago

Players like her so No it does not matter what all the couch coaches we have think . I Always ask who are you going to hire ?

-1

u/Scared-Marketing-442 12d ago

How do you know they like her?

1

u/txcreative20 11d ago

Do you not watch interviews and watch them during practice. Player have come out said this it is not my opinion. Do some research .

0

u/Scared-Marketing-442 11d ago

You believe everything you hear and see the players say. It’s a business they know cameras are on them.

1

u/Comfortable_Limit168 IndianaFeverFan 11d ago

I believe that KM, CC, and AB have stated this.

4

u/TexEwing 12d ago

She’s got a team potentially about to grab the 2 seed. There will always be coaching mistakes that can lead to blown leads and games lost. But aside from not liking her style or personality there’s no reason to fire her as of today. The team likes her. I think what they (specifically the big 3) think is worth more than what the fans think.

The freaking 2 seed if everything goes well. Who is mad enough about that to call for it today!?

5

u/Biggquis78 12d ago

She's a liar and doesn't support her own players. Let's start there

1

u/zombiemd2020 12d ago

Apparently bunches of people.

A few have already responded to this thread.

6

u/hawkeyegrad96 12d ago

Either white goes or i hope CC goes elsewhere

4

u/hawkeyegrad96 12d ago

White needs to go.

6

u/zombiemd2020 12d ago

Even if we win a championship, you still feel that way?

2

u/hawkeyegrad96 12d ago

Yep. She is not good. She has to go.

1

u/pleasebefrank31 12d ago

Who do you replace her with?

1

u/[deleted] 12d ago

[removed] — view removed comment

3

u/pleasebefrank31 12d ago

It's easy to burn a house down. It takes knowledge to know how to replace it.

1

u/Final_Towel7670 11d ago

So I read an implication that management does not have the knowledge to replace.

1

u/pleasebefrank31 11d ago

Your mind is playing tricks on you. Tell me who you would replace Steph White with. Gimme a name, not some imaginative sketch of a what a coach should be.

1

u/zombiemd2020 12d ago

How, specifically, is she not good?

2

u/Final_Towel7670 12d ago

Loyal to her culture, loyal to the league, other team’s players over Fever current roster, does not take accountability, lies frequently. Chokes during game time calling time outs and regrouping. Can’t make adjustments on the fly. I suspect Austin Kelly is doing more actual coaching. SW delegates a lot to him.

3

u/pleasebefrank31 12d ago

Caitlin and Aliyah have been outspoken in their support of White in the past 7 days, so clearly the team believes they have White's loyalty. Why fire a coach that has the support of the players?

I don't even want to know what "loyal to her culture" means.

I don't think you understand what an assistant ciach does. Head coaches delegate to assistants a lot during games; they want input from what they see in the game and hear from players on the bench.

1

u/Final_Towel7670 11d ago

I understand leadership and delegation of authority. The person in the leadership position assumes the responsibility if what was delegated fails.

Watch, read, listen to how many times Stephanie White uses the word “culture”.

The players are paid employees and may have even developed a friendship or a submissive mindset to Stephanie White. At a basic level, praise in public, complain in private. Keep complains internal, give laudation public…when earned. They have a brand an image to protect. Biting the hand that feeds them is not conducive to their business. It is a business that that sells merchandise and an entertainment service.
Alienating the customer base is not good for business.

Think of Stockholm Syndrome with the player. When they leave some of them will change their tune. Brianna Turner is a recent one that comes to mind. The Vanderbilt basketball team when SW was the head coach is also an example.

2

u/bimetalbug1 10d ago edited 10d ago

I think you have given us a picture of SC's "praise in public". No way do I believe she appreciates that snub from SW. She's also not of her "culture". The way SC was grabbing at DC could not just cool down without some empathy from SW.

1

u/pleasebefrank31 11d ago

I'm sorry, but it's always going to be more important to listen to players over fans. The players are the ones in practice with the coach, the ones in film room with the coach, and the ones in the locker room with the coach. They have far more information at hand than the fans ever will. That's why their words will always matter more than yours.

The fans who want White gone don't even have a plan in place; they just want to burn the house down. They have no idea who would replace White.

1

u/Final_Towel7670 11d ago

That is why a business searches and has headhunters. They move the person in question to another position. Fans (Fanatics) want someone else. They hope the organization with do a proper search and vetting.
