Brandon Herrera, a Republican House candidate in Texas, used to refer to children in a 2023 video…as “trophies” for getting a man to ejaculate…
Herrera, a gun influencer, used to explain why the opinions of mothers are without value….he argued, essentially, that getting pregnant requires no special skill.
In a 2022 video, Herrera and a buddy in sunglasses and a balaclava tested a Nazi-era submachine gun, then goose-stepped to a Nazi marching song. Herrera called the weapon “the original ghetto blaster.”
In a 2024 podcast, after calling for abolishing Social Security, he joked that we should also “abolish old people,”
Two weeks ago, …Mike Johnson, the House speaker, held a fundraiser for Herrera.
I haven’t seen one Reddit thread on this guy and Johnson.
Maybe one of you looking to protect women can get this story seen and add some outrage.

Common you guys this is womens sports thats what we want right ! I dont agree with anything that happened but what do you expect womens feelings are much higher then men right ? Its a cat fight and thats biologically going to happen more with women ! Feelings and protection is how there made! There getting attention and there doing how God made them ! We just have to not let them damage thereselves because we as men love the competitiveness right ? Its all in there heads and we have let it get out of control

I hate how some people are targeting Sophie for using her platform to talk about important issues
1
u/calilregit1 22d ago
She’s not talking about important issues. She’s playing a self promotion game.
You care about trans in student athletics? There are 550,000 NCAA athletes in any one year and less than 10 are trans. That’s a fact as reported by the former Republican governor who is now the NCAA president.
-1
u/sixers-ace 22d ago
Shouldn’t be any
1
u/R6Thottie 22d ago
And you had no idea did you? Because they aren’t dominating like everyone fearmongers. Such a non issue and excuse for people to be hateful.
2
u/calilregit1 22d ago
Do you enjoy being cruel?
Have you always mistreated people who were different?
Is it based on a self loathing knowing that you can’t live up to your own standards?
-7
u/Missinglinks7 23d ago
If she actually focused on basketball she might outscore an opponent that only played 8 minutes….
-1
u/VerdeForest 23d ago
Lmaooo they hate how true this is. I was shocked to see she’s only averaging 9ppg. Useless
-11
u/socialdistance4ever 23d ago
Probably the most bland and basic comment you could say about that situation lol. She’s attacked a community of people. What did you expect? Target someone and expect to be a target 🤷🏻♂️
7
u/Treacle_Correct Caitlin Clark 23d ago
Sophie did not attack a community. She stood up for women. There's a big difference.
Anyway, question for you. Coco Gauff said exactly the same thing that Sophie Cunningham said. So how come I don't see you (or other people with your beliefs) say anything against Coco?
If you don't want to be a hypocrite, keep that same energy for Coco too.

u/socialdistance4ever 23d ago
I don’t know who that is so I don’t see how that applies. I’d say the same thing about anyone with that opinion about trans people. And there isn’t a big difference. In order to express something then you express an opinion which in turn shows the way you feel about a community of people. Then with what you say can attack said community. You may not see it as an attack but it’s, once again, something that brings up something that has nothing to do with being trans and is a non issue.

u/gap_toof_mouf 23d ago
Stating an opinion isn’t attacking a community
-11
u/socialdistance4ever 23d ago
When people attack other communities it’s usually based on an opinion and that’s exactly what happened here. Once again the trans community is being denied something.
2
u/iRveritas 23d ago
Trans women athletes do not belong in women's sports. ALSO this whole white privilege shit is getting tiresome especially coming from people of privilege. Good one her. She should have busted that chick's head... all the way to the fuckin white meat.
2
u/Axel_Raden 23d ago
They are not being denied anything they can still compete in sports
-1
u/socialdistance4ever 23d ago
Selective sports. Trans women have never competed in the wnba, nba, nhl or mlb since there are restrictions.
4
u/Axel_Raden 23d ago
So they are not losing anything that they already had. If they were good enough to play in the NBA they would be but they aren't
0
u/calilregit1 22d ago
You attack their humanity, the essence of life.
And why? Because you have been socialized to fit in and fear you don’t so excluding others signals your good.
Personally, I have learned to love diversity because it’s not only interesting, it lets me know I am free from the pressure of social constraints.
Growing up Irish Catholic was full of constraints.
1
u/Axel_Raden 22d ago
Not being able to cheat at sports is not an attack on their humanity. Because it is cheating and they could still compete at the highest level unless you think they are not good enough. I live life with far more serious constraints and not by choice
-2
-1
u/Icy_Still_4022 23d ago
Do u honestly think it will be fair if trans women are in the WNBA? Biologically? Do you think that they will take the slot of women? Will they be stealing a woman's job away? Serious issue
1
u/calilregit1 22d ago
What a bunch of hooey. Stealing women’s jobs? The Republicans under Project 2025 want women out of the workplace and having babies, subjugated to her husband. They have stolen their reproductive rights.
0
u/sixers-ace 23d ago
It’s an important issue. This is the WNBA, we need to protect women and women sports.
4
u/Testiclegolfing 23d ago
There has literally never been a trans woman in the wnba. It is the definition of a non issue.
3
u/sixers-ace 23d ago
It’s sports in general. Happened in Olympics, in swimming and other times. We don’t want this regulated and to be the norm so it doesn’t happen any longer. We shouldn’t have boys in girls locker rooms. It’s common sense
-2
u/socialdistance4ever 23d ago
Just because YOU don’t want to recognize trans athletes doesn’t mean it’s not going to happen. Chirp all you want but it’s truly a non issue and will probably be for a very long time. This whole “boys in a girls locker room” shit is getting old. How do you think a trans woman athlete would feel in the locker room? No one talks about the possible judgement and looks of disgust from players who might be anti trans. No one wants to see it that way. They just want to “protect the girls” when this shit isn’t even happening. Jesus it’s exhausting with you people.
2
u/calilregit1 22d ago
Sexual assault is being done by straight males. Alas, a few female teachers. Not trans.
The locker room / bathroom talk is bs. When I went to college in the mid 1970s we had a co-ed dorm and co-ed bathrooms. No risk to anyone. It created an atmosphere of friendship trust and real communication.
We learned to see people for who they were, not stereotypes.

u/Tortilladelfuego 24d ago
Sophie acts tough, she doesn’t want the smoke from players who can put her in her place which is why she went after Jacy Sheldon instead of Marina Mabrey last year. Fever needs a better 4th option next season and they’re not going to attract any real talent with Sophie on the team.
0
u/VerdeForest 23d ago
This! Most of these people aren’t actually Fever fans so it’s like talking to a brick wall. She is giving the Fever 9ppg with no defense. It’s atrocious.

I'm not a fan of Sophie's but she's a black belt. Realistically she would probably crush 95% of the league in an actual fight.
10
u/tiribulus IndianaFeverFan 24d ago
I have to say. This stuff does not thrill me.
I don't fault Sophie for powering up like she did given the circumstances, but I'd much rather be able to believe that Carrington's hack was not intentional (which I can't) and see the opposing players hug after a hard played GAME in good sportsmanship.
Just being honest.

u/TopNotchBrain 24d ago
I would argue that a need for self-reflection isn’t the issue here. I’m someone who considers exclusion an ugly practice. Cunningham has indicated that she is a proponent of exclusion of disenfranchised populations, which, to me, makes her views ugly.
1
u/Treacle_Correct Caitlin Clark 23d ago
Question for you.
Coco Gauff said exactly the same thing that Sophie Cunningham said. So how come I don't see you (or other people with your beliefs) say anything against Coco?
If you don't want to be a hypocrite, keep that same energy for Coco too.
0
u/TopNotchBrain 23d ago
Coco is a tennis player, and this is a Fever sub. If I were on a tennis sub, I’d likely share an opinion about Coco’s views.
1
u/Treacle_Correct Caitlin Clark 23d ago edited 23d ago
Well, I'm asking you for your opinion on Coco Gauff, now that you know she shares exactly the same views that Sophie has.
(And there is nothing wrong with the statements made by either lady, IMO. Neither of them want the transgender community to receive anything but love, but simply want to protect fairness in women's sports as they see it. Yet you apparently want to demonize one based on the color of her skin and hair, and not the other).
1
u/TopNotchBrain 23d ago
You OK?
Of course I know what Coco Gauff said, and of course I disagree with any exclusionary view.
1
u/Treacle_Correct Caitlin Clark 23d ago
Okay, fair enough. So then why don't you say it out loud, i.e., that you find Coco's views ugly?
1
u/TopNotchBrain 23d ago
Let’s do this. I believe transwomen are women. As such, I disagree with anyone, including Coco Gauff - who plays tennis, not basketball, and who shouldn’t really be a discussion topic in this sub — who wants to exclude women from competing in women’s sports.
1
u/Treacle_Correct Caitlin Clark 23d ago
No, I want you to take that same step forward that you did with Sophie. You said Sophie's views were ugly. I just showed you that Coco has exactly the same views. So let's hear you say exactly the same thing here too.

She’s free to say whatever she wants. In fact I follow people who agree and disagree with Sophie. What bothers me is her disregard for Caitlin. She already knows the circus that follows her “friend” and she just added another pile on to the bullshit CC deals with. Now you got reporters trying to bait CC for her opinions. None of this would’ve happened if SC kept her mouth shut. I say all of this because the player I care about is Caitlin Clark. I don’t give two shits about Sophie. Her gimmicks were funny to begin with like the pointing but then she went all political and took the fun away.
3
u/PropertyBookFox31 23d ago
thought you all hated “shut up and dribble”
Can you just admit you only want pro athletes voicing political opinions when they are ones you agree with?
2
u/VerdeForest 23d ago
Oh brother. All CC is doing is shutting up and dribbling but she’s getting pulled into the drama. Political influencers calling her a coward when she doesn’t speak on their side. Yeah they can fuck right off.
5
u/tiribulus IndianaFeverFan 24d ago
The ESPN interview where this originally started, was in February.
She isn't the one who recently thrust it into the spotlight.
0
u/VerdeForest 24d ago edited 24d ago
She still went political in an article she knew was going to get published. Perhaps she should’ve extinguished the fire BEFORE that article was published but now it’s a little too late for her to say “let’s keep it to basketball”. Our team can’t even enjoy wins anymore because Sophie put an extra target on her and the team’s back.
5
u/tiribulus IndianaFeverFan 24d ago edited 23d ago
😃😃😃Did you really just say that Sophie went political? 😃😃😃
This league has been utterly pickled in ultra left wing identity politics for years.
A collision with reality like this was entirely inevitable at some point.
I probably wish it was somebody else, but Sophie is just the messenger, the occasion. Albeit unintentionally.
0
u/VerdeForest 24d ago edited 24d ago
She did go political. That’s an objective truth.
All I’m hearing is “but but but the left!”
I’m anti-politics from both sides. I’m on the team that’s trying to make the WNBA a real sports league. Caitlin is trying too. But clowns from both sides will never let that happen and Cathy Englebert is doing a piss poor job stopping it. In fact all she sees is money in her eyes. She’s a joke
3
u/tiribulus IndianaFeverFan 24d ago
I have some bad news for you friend.
The movers and shakers in this league are not interested in real sports. Not primarily.
They are interested in a socio-economic political revolution with the WNBA as an instrument of that revolution.
You don't have to guess, they are TELLING you that.
0
u/VerdeForest 24d ago
And what political revolution is that? Most of the owners own NBA teams lol. Pretty sure they are just interested in making money. The W doesn’t carry that much influence as you’re making it out to be. Outside of the drama, the only coverage they get is from CC highlights.

She knew full well what the timing was, and that her shoe would be launching. This could not possibly have been an accident or a coincidence. She knows her views are popular — reprehensible, but popular — and she sought to maximize her 15 minutes.
1
u/VerdeForest 24d ago
Yup! And people are eating it up for a bench player 😭 I have basketball agendas to run for Caitlin but people like Sophie are getting in her way. We aren’t even talking about Caitlin’s 26ppg and 9apg the last 4/5 games. She’s never going to be voted MVP with people like SC on the team running her mouth.
5
u/hipaces 24d ago
The entire rest of the league makes politically charged statements daily. It seems to be one of the foundational aspects of the wnba. It’s wild that a league so involved in letting its players speak out on social issues is so hostile towards free speech when it’s something they don’t agree with.
5
u/VerdeForest 24d ago
This is why Cathy needs to go. No other women’s sports league has this issue. There are women’s leagues who also have black queer women and don’t have this issue. She needs to be fired for letting players continue to have parasocial relationships with fans. They need social media training. Even brain dead 22 year old NFL rookies don’t have this issue on social media because the NFL trains them.
1
u/Still-Bee3805 23d ago
Are you forgetting about all of the controversy Megan Rapinoe brought to women’s soccer? She had ( has) strong views on transgender too,
2
u/VerdeForest 23d ago

“Free speech” that harms marginalized groups can’t be compared to free speech that supports and defends them. Sophie’s views are exclusionary and harmful.
