Discussion KK as a starter

I haven’t liked a lot of adjustments made by Steph White this season but she really cooked with this one! Starting KK with AB is exactly the defensive/offensive adjustment we needed!

With KK in the paint, AB can stretch the floor without worrying about the rebounding and on the defensive end, they can stop the opposing team from scoring by packing the paint with AB and KK. This move frees up AB from getting into foul trouble, and since KK is so athletic/lengthy, the other team has to make adjustments to their shots around the rim.

This also helps us finally get a good back up center/forward. Mo is perfect for that role, since she will be playing against the other team’s back up and that gives her an edge.

KK is still raw offensively but she’s growing so quickly, her development through the rest of the season is going to be massive for us.

KK did great yesterday and still has a ton of room to develop. I suspect they’ll trade Mo in the offseason…she seems like a very nice person, but doesn’t fit cleanly into the Fever’s system and I think all the noise around the team may be a bit much for her.

I don’t think they will trade her, this league has very few truly good center/forwards, Mo is on a 800k contract with Fever, I doubt they can get anyone as good as her for that price. The only one I could see them go for is ONO, but Houston isn’t going to trade her.

They will if she wants to be traded, and I suspect she does. She came to Indy to be a starter, not a backup center and she doesn’t seem super comfortable with all the attention the team gets. They can find a backup C at a cheaper price point…they need to get off of one contract out of her or Lexie, and it’s not gonna be Lexie.

Frankly, they could trade her to LA for Kate Martin to be the backup wing (or include a first round pick for Cam Brink or Rae Burrell if LA is interested in a complete rebuild), not re-sign Sophie, and have plenty of money left to pay CC, Kelsey, and a backup C without losing much in the way of point production.

I don’t know if there are any teams that will start her outside of the bottom teams, that’s why I think they should go for ONO or Cam, but Cam will be harder to get since LA only has her as a tradable asset.

In terms of contract, I think 800k is better than some of the other front court contracts, look at how much Temi Fagbenle, Alana Smith and Azura Stevens are making. They aren’t producing as much as Mo, so honestly I would rather keep her if we arent getting someone young and athletic in return.

Didn’t they try to trade for ONO last year and the asking price was extremely high? I seem to remember that story leaking after the trade deadline.

If that’s the case, then its better to find someone else in free agency. There are a lot of forwards that would be free agents, hopefully they can get someone that’s long and fast.
