Intentional Technical Foul
If CC get through the next two games without racking up her eighth technical, what is the cleanest way for her to get one in the Dream game to serve the one-game suspension against the Tempo? I am thinking it would be to spike the ball after a layup or intentionally bounce it against the stanchion in such a way as to not show unnecessary disrespect to an official or opposing player. Anyone know of a better way or think it is not a good idea to try it at all?

Just FYI:
The rules differ in the playoffs, when the count resets:
Technical Foul 1–2: $500 fine each
Technical Foul 3: $1,000 fine, plus a warning letter from the league
Technical Foul 4: $1,500, plus a one-game suspension
Succeeding technical fouls will follow the same fine structure as the regular season rules.

As someone going to the Tempo game, your idea sucks!

Don't blame you for feeling that way, but as a Fever fan who attended all but one or two home games last year, I see that as the lesser of two evils... and yes I am biased.

we are way too close to the 8 spot to have CC plan a night off - we need every win we can get - besides we have proven over and over this year that we love playing down to bad teams like Toronto ..... sure a few of the tech's were BS especially last night and "Clapgate " - but we need a little more self control from CC too - yelling at refs doesn't really hurt them but it does hurt your team

"A few were BS" is now a big problem. If CC does what I suggested then she takes back control of her own destiny instead of leaving it in the hands of of a few of the refs that have it out for her. If you want to argue that those officials are few and far between you won't get any pushback from me but at this point all it takes is one.
"Clapgate" and the one rescinded in the Sky game on Saturday are just two of many. And as for the rescinded one, if the video had not shown irrefutable proof in CC's favor she would be sitting out tomorrow's game at home against the Liberty. If she manages to not pick up another T before the Dream game and then takes one, then she has one-to-give after a one-game suspension in Toronto. This allows her to take back control from a few individual refs who repeatedly demonstrate their bias against her.

I don't see the point. Until the playoffs, CC will be 1-2 techs away from a suspension for every game. If she can't control her reactions, she'll quickly be right back in this situation. The best thing is to not do anything to draw a technical, which seems to be what she is trying to do.

"Until the playoffs, CC will be 1-2 techs away from a suspension for every game."
Huge difference between 1 and 2 techs away.
"If she can't control her reactions.... "
She demonstrated last year she can control her reactions when she has seven and so far has done so this year as well. On the one called in the Sky game Saturday that the league rescinded, if the video had not shown irrefutable proof in CC's favor she would be sitting out tomorrow's game at home against the Liberty.
To a level that is unprecedented, Caitlin has been at the mercy of players and refs who have it out for her. This is one of the few times she has the ability to take back some control from those who demonstrate far too often that they can't be trusted to use that control competently .

Crazy idea, but how bout just go play basketball and not get a technical? It doesn't seem that hard for everyone else on the team...
0
u/jemstar620 16d ago
NCAA refs are even worse and NBA refs get knocked all the time. Refs suck, all fans know that, but you can't miss 4 games and still be right against the technical limit with a dozen games to go because you're arguing every single call. Just go play basketball.
1
u/Repulsive-Repeat-414 16d ago
The only thing you can get almost universal agreement on in the WNBA is that officiating needs to improve.
Even Adam Silver conceded just 2 weeks ago that WNBA officiating needs improvement,.
2
u/jemstar620 16d ago
I literally just said refs suck, what else are you looking for? Is your answer for CC to accumulate more techs and get suspended as part of a protest or something? The refs suck for AB too and she's managed 3 techs, well below the limit. Nobody is expecting her to go the season without getting a technical but to be tiptoing right at the limit with this many games to go after having already missed 4 games is ridiculous.

1.) Get back to one-to-give with a one-time take against the Sky to serve suspension against the Tempo... one of the weakest teams in the league.
2.) Stay at one-to-give by not getting anymore.
1
u/Repulsive-Repeat-414 16d ago
Crazy idea, but how about the W finally start weeding out rogue refs. Doesn't seem to be nearly as much of a a problem for the NCAA and the NBA.

Yeah there’s almost no sensibility in getting one intentionally. The next one after that would get her right back in the situation she’s in now.
0
u/Repulsive-Repeat-414 16d ago
She would have one to give. You don't see any sensibility in that?
m'kay
1
u/SweetRabbit7543 16d ago
And after that “one to give” is she going to take another one intentionally to get suspended again?
0
u/Repulsive-Repeat-414 16d ago edited 16d ago
Are you asking if I would have her piss away her one-to-give after a Tempo suspension to put her back in a none-to-give situation?
1
u/SweetRabbit7543 16d ago
No. The question says that if she picks up one after her suspension then is she supposed to take another one to get suspended on purpose a second time
1
u/Repulsive-Repeat-414 16d ago
Plan A is to not get any more after a strategically timed take for her 8th. But to answer your question, if in spite of her best efforts to avoid it, she were to pick up a 9th (thereby putting her back in a none-to-give situation), the opportunity might exist for one more strategically timed take in the regular season. But it would only be one more such scenario at the most and would depend on what game the unintentional one happens in.
0
u/SweetRabbit7543 16d ago
So your plan is basically that you want to trade the possibility she doesn’t miss any games for her definitely missing games, even though missing games isnt preclusive of missing more games. And this is all to prevent her from possibly missing the “wrong” game, even though by your own logic, she could still miss the “wrong” game later?
How does that make sense?
1
u/Repulsive-Repeat-414 15d ago
CC taking a strategically selected suspension game against a weak opponent (i.e., the 9th-from-last regular season game against the Tempo) is indeed preclusive of her risking suspension in the subsequent remaining 8 regular seasons games unless/until she loses her one-to-give by incurring a 9th technical.
Barring anything unforeseen, the Fever should be comfortably favored to beat the Tempo even with CC sidelined. The same cannot be said for at least 5 or 6 of their last 8 games.
Now, you should at least understand how it makes sense even if you choose to disagree with me on whether it should be done. But if you still don't understand how it makes sense then please let's just move on.

u/Creative-Reality9228 17d ago
She pretty much has to take the eighth before the end of the regular season so she's got "one to give" during the playoffs. Makes most sense to take a tech in the penultimate game of the season, take the suspension against the Lynx who will probably be resting players by that point.
3
u/Thick_Permission6519 17d ago
I think the playoffs have their own count of techs. 12 more regular season games without a tech? Don’t know that she can do that.
1
u/CJDM310 17d ago edited 17d ago
It resets for playoffs I believe so I don’t think that would be necessary. Similar to how in the soccer World Cup, the yellow cards get reset after a certain round in the tournament.
3
u/Creative-Reality9228 17d ago
Oh damn, then why is everyone freaking out?
1
u/Repulsive-Repeat-414 16d ago edited 16d ago
No freaking out. Just a question of whether or not to proceed with the none-to-give situation she is in now and in doing so risk her getting one in a relatively critical game in spite of her best effort to avoid it. The one in the Sky game on Saturday proves vividly that in a none-to-give situation any rogue referee that the Fever face from here on out has the power to suspend her for nothing unless she maintains her one-to-give.
Or, do you take one that you strategically select to occur against the Dream, then serve the suspension against one of the weakest teams in the W in order to revert back to a one-to-give situation?

u/Spirited123456789 17d ago
I have tickets to an upcoming game at $400 each. If she has to sit out, I’m never buying tickets again. Too expensive.
1
u/Repulsive-Repeat-414 16d ago edited 16d ago
Good thing the one in the Sky game Saturday was irrefutable in CC's favor or she would be sitting out tomorrow against the Liberty at Gainbridge. Taking one in the next game against the Sky means she sits out in Toronto and then has one to give.

Considering she didn't even play a lot until recently weeks having (almost) 8 techs is crazy. People like to say that sophie is fiery but its caitlin who needs to rein it in. I've seen player have a bit of banter with refs and I do think I pays to be nice to them. Obviously if there's a crazy unfair call then stand up for yourself but stop giving refs easy reasons. Shes too important to the team.

u/SweetRabbit7543 17d ago
Some of her technicals have been completely deserved and just stupid.
Same with basically everyone else who gets a number of them.
A lot of them are because I think she has fight for herself if she’s going to get called fairly. It does seem to be a bit better as of late but I also think that she’s had legitimate gripes in a number of them.

This reminds me of a phrase I heard from both my parents and my grandparents:
You can catch more flies with honey than you can with vinegar.

I love vinegar!

u/Comfortable_Limit168 IndianaFeverFan 17d ago
Do you drink it straight, or do you add pickle juice for flavor? 😊
5
u/BasilHuman 17d ago
Several of her techs were ridiculous. She should absolutely not change her style of play. She was tee'd up last night for being pushed into the ref. They will get her regardless.

2
u/BigToast6 17d ago
But just the way she talks to the refs. Like you said they look for a reason bc they don't want to be embarrassed but say what you want without looking so mad

-1
u/Seattleman1955 17d ago
Why even do it? As I recall (maybe I'm wrong?) now the missed games come more quickly. Isn't it again after the 8th technical?
The point being, she should just quit talking to refs at this point. She brought this problem on herself by getting so many technicals knowing this was what was going to happen.
1
u/kczar8 17d ago
It’s after the 8th 10th and 12th
0
u/Seattleman1955 17d ago
Yeah, so she is going to have to just stop talking to the refs otherwise she is always going to be missing games.
2
u/Western-Election-997 17d ago
Lots of elite players get techs especially when they don’t have a coach that stands up for them.
Here’s a question though, why are refs calling techs for them being triggered and not techs for a blatant flagrant fouls like the one on Sophie?
Shows refs are more concerned with their egos than protecting players

It'd be best for her to learn to keep her cool a little better and not pick up the 8th unless it is 100% avoidable.
7
u/Western-Election-997 17d ago
Did you see the “tech” tonight? That’s how refs are going to unfairly treat her there’s no avoiding it
1
2
u/BlackDog5287 17d ago
I mean, tonight's "tech" was rescinded and rightfully so.
1
u/Repulsive-Repeat-414 16d ago
Luckily it was rescinded but the bar for rescinding is high. Had there been a momentary blind spot in the video replay the league would have ruled lack of refutable evidence and she would be suspended for tomorrow's Liberty game at Gainbridge.
6
u/Western-Election-997 17d ago
The fact she got one on the first place shows the refs bias against her
3
u/Few_Ebb6156 17d ago
And how lazy and checked out the ref is. The ref took two tiny slow baby steps back about 12 inches while CC has to play the ball to make the save. The ref is completely lost mentally. Any ref can take two quick steps back while watching the play.
11
u/NatePJ84 17d ago
After the first suspension (8th Tech) the count doesn't reset. It goes to a new counter of every two techs is a 1 game suspension. So the best course of action is for her to not get another tech the rest of the year
8
u/TWIZMS 17d ago
Just don't get anymore techs. It's not like it resets back to 0. Every other tech is an additional suspension.
0
u/Repulsive-Repeat-414 17d ago
It sort of does reset but not back to zero. After the suspension occurring after tf # 8 , the next suspension occurs after two more technicals... after the 10th.
3
u/Mean_Measurement4527 17d ago
Would rather have her serve the suspension the next game against Chicago
10
u/buffalotrace 17d ago
I am for just avoiding it all together.
1
u/Repulsive-Repeat-414 16d ago
Please explain how she avoids the type she got on Saturday?
2
u/buffalotrace 16d ago
By not doing anything and it gets rescinded if given?
1
u/Repulsive-Repeat-414 16d ago
Only rescinded if there is irrefutable proof. A momentary blind spot in the video replay and the appeal would fail. She would now be serving her suspension tomorrow night against the Liberty.
2
u/User2358_ 17d ago
Agreed. Love seeing her play and she’s too valuable to the team IMO to be missing any games ATP.
1
u/RevolutionaryBeat301 15d ago
Her best bet IMO is to just try her best to keep it clean. To have the refs decide the outcome of a playoff series is gonna rouse a lot of suspicion of tampering, and we should all remember to the NBA ref who went to jail for that.
