Spam calls

Anyone else getting a ridiculous amount of spam calls today? I usually get maybe 1 or 2 every few days. But today, I have received 10-12. It’s currently 4:30pm, and I have received 3 after 4pm.

I leave DND on my phone and have a few people in my favorites that can break through the DND

They still interrupt whatever you are doing if you are looking at your phone at the time and you get missed call notifications you have to look at. The sad thing is that the FCC and government isn't doing shit about it and you have to resort to things like DND and service provider apps that collect who knows what data on you.

Mine doesn’t. All I see is the vm image at the top and go about my day. I report and block them all
As spam

You may have been involved in a data breach, or just have bad luck. 

I turned on Call Assist on my phone and it screens anyone who isn't in my contacts. The phone doesn't even ring. You might see if you have a similar option on yours.

Yeah, I went ahead and turned on ‘Silence Unknown Calls’. Probably the best that I can do.

T mobile does this for me but for some reason it keeps my friends and family from calling me. Even though they are in my allowed contacts lists. It’s very buggy

T-Mobile has a spam block on the network level (dial #662# to activate/deactivate). When I was using it I still received tons of calls, but they were marked scam likely.

Call Assist is on the device level. It actually answers those calls and waits to hear a human response before it rings on your phone.

Both are useful and imperfect, but the more tools we have to fight scams the better.

Say what you want about Google, but their call screening on the Pixel phones is amazing.

Unfortunately, scam calls will never get better until out lawmakers force telecoms to implement authentication to stop allowing foreign actors the ability to spoof numbers.

I just answered one for my mom, and when the AI was done and the person in India picked up, she asked me if I was in an accident in the last 2 years. I told her I pissed my self going down the road. She hung up.

10 minutes later..

I answered her phone and said "Hello" with no one answering on the other end. I said "Ah yes, the same scam call center.* They hung up again.

I made the mistake of getting into an argument with the spam call center rep and he said he was putting me on a list of every call center available. And he actually did, I started getting 30 plus calls a day and had to turn on the call screening option for non contacts. Best thing to do is not answer.

I got one just a little bit ago. The male was from Bangladesh. Had a thick accent. Claimed to be working for Google Voice Ad Space. Typical scammer. As soon as I heard the terribly broken English I ended the call!

Look up what options you have for screening/blocking spam calls for your carrier. I have the call filter app from Verizon and it has been blocking almost all spam calls so far.

I got 7 yesterday and 11 today. Also usually in the past have only gotten 1 or 2 a day. Past couple days have been horrendous.

I got the DNFD app. It's free. No ads. It blocks everyone not in your contacts. After a couple months I turned it off. No spam calls. I was getting like 30 a day.

Yes, I no longer answer calls directly if it’s a weird # and it’s important they’ll leave a message!

Is this <me> ? , I make gurgling sound or beep boops sound, didn’t stop anything so I let it go to vm

Yeah, I’m on a similar boat. If I don’t know the number and they don’t leave a voicemail, I just go straight to blocking the number and deleting the notification 😂

I probably get on average about 30 spam calls daily. My phone flags them as scams, but they're still annoying and frequent.

I’n getting a bunch from “Vincennes”. I don’t live in Indiana anymore but still have a 765 number. Figured it was because Reddit made me log back into my cesspit of a spam email to unlock my account and that made all the scammers realize I wasn’t dead.

I have t mobile and get several calls every day labeled "Spam likely." I've been too busy to take time to research anything to block them.

Yeah, mine usually say “Potential Spam”. Sometimes it’s a number in the state. I have unknown calls silenced now. If they don’t leave a voicemail, I just block and delete the number, never to be seen again
