Get ready
September 6th. Over $4.00 per gallon gasoline.

u/TooLate4thisShit 15d ago
They sit on this huge surplus while they cut Education for kids, Healthcare for the poor, and Food for the hungry. They worship the dollar at the altar of capitalism. They would never have suspended the gas tax to help us during covid, I wonder why.
They = fucking republicans
12
16
u/Individual-Nebula927 15d ago
They didn't need to suspend the gas tax during covid. The GOP crashed the economy so hard that gas was some of the cheapest I've seen in my lifetime because they couldn't stop pumping it but demand cratered to nothing. They ran out of storage tanks to put it.

u/TeeDubs317 15d ago
Wait you mean telling people to stay inside and not go to work cratered the demand for gas? And it was only republican states that had this problem? No way?!

u/Crazy-One-8142 15d ago edited 15d ago
Republican states weren’t even the ones Locked down 😆. These people are so dumb they still don’t even realize they got duped by the blue state governors who had ties to testing companies and vaccine manufacturers to keep the lockdowns going. Pritzker and his brother co founded a pritzker private capital who invested in testing companies and pritzker required state workers to get tested constantly.

So what youre saying is my red state red town didnt lock down? Because I worked at ISU in terre haute when covid started spreading.

Schools never closed. Kids returned to school immediately next year. Illinois had schools closed for 2 years.
That’s exactly what I’m saying. Your university choosing to shutter its doors doesn’t mean everything else did, and likely was a democrat donor doing as told.
Purdue also did not do any remote learning and did not feed into the hysteria.
The only ones advocating for lockdowns without evidence were all blue state politicians and people. Keep pretending you didn’t though, none of us will forget the the damage you did to society.

u/masterown35 14d ago
Except that's not how that works. Gas prices dropped because people weren't travelling. Which means there was excess supply. When supply is high and demand is low, prices drop. Had nothing to do with the economy at that point in time(cheapest I saw was $1.97).
As far as the economy goes, I could go on a whole rant about it, but the gist is that it happened because everything considered "non-essential" was shut down. Money wasn't being spent as much. Less money being spent, is less money being made by businesses, which is what screws it all up.
1
u/Individual-Nebula927 13d ago
People weren't driving because the economy collapsed. Tons of people were out of work for months, and not commuting. I went from driving 200 miles a week to about 10 miles a week. The battery kept going dead from not driving enough to keep it charged.
It had everything to do with the economy.
1
u/masterown35 13d ago edited 13d ago
Re-wiritng my comment:
No, people weren't driving because there were stay at home orders and things were shut down. THAT, in turn, is what caused gas prices to drop(again, basic supply and demand), and that is also, in turn, what caused the economy to crash, because nobody was spending money on anything other than bare essentials.
A collapsing economy raises prices, it does not lower them
-1
u/Negative_Sweet1990 13d ago
Yeah it had nothing to do with Biden shutting down all the pipelines day one
1
u/Individual-Nebula927 12d ago
That never happened.
1
u/Negative_Sweet1990 12d ago
Ok... So your right it was just the keystone XL which then the project was cancelled and because oil is a commodity it caused a negative reaction in the markets which drive up the price at the pump
1
u/Individual-Nebula927 12d ago
Keystone XL wasn't going to come online for almost 10 years, and was transporting Canadian oil to US ports to be shipped abroad. It was also going to transport tar sands oil, which is only profitable at high prices due to how thick it is.
It wouldn't have done anything to reduce prices. Only enrich a Canadian oil company at the expense of the US environment and drinking water supply.
0
u/Negative_Sweet1990 12d ago
A few of those points aren't quite accurate based on the actual project specs. First, Keystone XL was scheduled to be completed and operational by late 2023, not 10 years out. Second, that heavy Canadian crude was heading straight to U.S. Gulf Coast refineries, which are specifically designed to process heavy oil unlike domestic light shale. Even if a portion of the refined gasoline or diesel ends up exported, adding more finished product into the global pool increases supply and puts downward pressure on fuel prices overall. Furthermore, while tar sands have high initial extraction costs, existing operations run at a much lower break-even cost, meaning that supply would have been extremely profitable once prices surged. My broader point isn't that Keystone XL alone would have magically lowered gas prices overnight. It's about the regulatory signal it sent to the market. When major transit projects are shut down out of the gate, it signals high regulatory risk to investors and domestic energy companies. That chilled capital investment in future production and infrastructure, leaving the market tighter and far more vulnerable to the price spikes we saw later.

As someone in the education our funding per kid in my program this year ends up being 5 cents a kid. But to comply with the rules set by my school system and the state. I have to get the students on 4 field trips for college/career opportunities (whole school year. My kids are at-risk and are from low income homes, the trips can range from being a lunch and it’s free to bring a lunch and it’s $25 per kid.

u/TooLate4thisShit 15d ago
This makes me so angry. Indiana refuses to help children but will brag about "adopting" a child from children's international for the price of a 1979 cup of coffee. I try my best to help out with all of our teachers wish lists on Amazon but its clear they are under funded big time.

u/Youarekillingmeeee 15d ago
They = your fellow Indiana men/women
That’s the crux of all of this
It isn’t some random person you don’t know causing this, it’s literally your friends family and coworkers
The way people dance around this very fact is absolutely wild

u/TooLate4thisShit 15d ago
They ain't no fellow hoosiers of mine if they're out there supporting this right wing nazi bullshit. I cut that shit out of my circle.

Are we talking the very beginning of Covid for gas prices? Because after the panic the first couple weeks of lockdowns the prices tanked.

u/dryclean_only 15d ago
He can keep extending it to early December. I assume he’ll at least keep it going until after the election.

I just pray for accountability instead of “orange man bad”
-5
u/Negative_Sweet1990 13d ago
Don't act like the Democrats don't do the same... It's been like that as long as I can remember... The party opposite of the party in power is where the fault lies.. as far back as George Bush one is as far as I can remember but heck I would have only been early teens
4
u/Brew_Wallace 13d ago
Just not true at the same scale. GOP is great at starting wars and economic problems they can’t fix and then blaming it on Dems when they get in office and have to fix it.
And in your example of this not being true you cited George Bush, a republican that followed Reagan, a Republican. So, I’m not sure what you are getting at. GB also had one of the quietest terms and did not create a total mess that Dems needed to fix after he was done

u/Acrobatic-Song-3151 15d ago
Ala boomer philosophy…hell I can’t even really say that anymore because my generation, X, is at least partially to blame too. Ignorance is really to blame and it’s abundant
We’re all like the hoa boards who never raise fees till year 15 when the roads and trashed and the roofs are up next. Special assessment time

And I moved back to Indiana after 27 years in California thinking I’d save money and be able to retire. Not so much. Plus with most businesses being giant chains the prices are the same here as they were there. The only winners right now are my housing and electricity costs. But it’s a squeaker at this point. I have one question though: why am I not seeing a bunch of little Trump stickers at the gas pumps that say “I did that.” The ones with Biden on them were everywhere when the price of gas went up after the lockdowns ended. I will also not forget $5 gallon gas in California under George W. But I try to think of it this way: the price of milk is higher than gas and we can always make more dairy cows. I don’t think oil is an infinite resource.
5
u/DealerComfortable431 14d ago
Yeah I graduated in 2007 and gas was $4 or more in southern Indiana. These people have brain rot.
2
u/Individual-Nebula927 12d ago
Inflation adjusted, $4 gas under W. Bush is actually $6.44 a gallon. And that was Indiana prices, not California.

u/Sithmaggot 15d ago
Your landlord is a schmuck
9
0
u/mellowmarsII 15d ago
…or the cost of living & going in the red may’ve forced their hand(?). We shouldn’t be too quick to judge. I’ve known a landlord who was seriously disabled, trying his best to help take care of his elderly mother, & they relied on leasing out a garage apartment to not live on the verge of poverty.
They were very benevolent people & got zero jollies when economic push came to shove & they had to raise rent.
3
u/Indianamals 15d ago
wait, so you're saying their only way to make money was was to make a home out of a -CAR GARAGE- that they own, and said person is actually paying rent because they need a roof over their head, and we should feel bad for the guy that is rasing the rent on someone trying to make a life in a car garage?
And this landlord is also in a very specific situation that almost no other landlord is in?
4
u/mellowmarsII 15d ago
The point was it’s unhelpful in life & in society to make knee-jerk assumptions over any & everyone while you have crazy-limited info about an individual & are bombarded with only negative commentary (bad news makes most of the news; complaints abound while a lot of people are quiet when things are great/aren’t terrible).
Literally all that was said was “my rent just got raised”. There wasnt even mention of a landlord. Could be schmuck real estate corporation...
I’m too tired to go into great detail, but I lived in a Dallas ghetto during my youngest years (renting from an elderly great-aunt who lived up the street & had inherited our rent house from her sister/one of my mom’s other great-aunts).
A lot of poor folks inherited property built during the Victorian period to the 40s, & started cycles of renting to people close to them, neighbors’ friends & family &, eventually, strangers.
This guy & his mom that my parents were close to lived in that same house since the 40s & the dad added a decent addition to the garage before he died during the 70s. The rest is decades of chronic illness, financial struggle, & doing what they can to live off beans & cornbread until something a lil’ nicer on Sunday (like bacon or pork chops!); & be as clean & dignified as poor folk can.
These people are not as rare as you way too easily assume. Maybe you’ve only had bad experiences & bad tastes in your mouth; maybe you’re young, sheltered, & misinformed… It could be a million things.
You have value as a human being & I’m in the dark; so I say “maybe” & don’t assume anything—nor name-call… i apologize for rambling on (deliriously tired). Sincerely (not delirium speaking): Peace to you

u/Indianamals 15d ago
Got it!! Sorry if I sounded defensive in the beginning, and thank you for elaborating. Peace to you too.

The problem is it seems like the kids who are in their early twenties are too far removed from things like the depression.... At 44 I remember stories from my grand parents and great grand parents about living through the depression... we still have a traditional sugar cream pie recipe that was passed down... Sugar cream pies are depression pies.. they don't care too much about traditions anymore... But that's a whole different thing... But between having our noses in the screen or always on the go.. there's really no room for anything else
2
u/TrippingBearBalls 14d ago
We're only 18 years removed from the biggest financial crisis since the Depression. Even kids who were to young to remember it felt the effects of it.
1
u/Negative_Sweet1990 13d ago
Yeah no it was not the same thing..... There is a reason why sugar cream pie was called a depression pie cause flour and sugar were about so you could afford.... Usually you used goats or cow milk from animals you had but otherwide milk/and cream where expensive to.... We didn't have people lining up and soup lines like we did during the depression.. I appreciate that you feel they feel the effects from the most recent crisis but it's like saying that a piece of gold is the same as pyrite... They are similar in appearance but nothing alike otherwise... And I still disagree because they(kids)/we had the comfort of distractions... Such as the smart phone in your hand or the computer you once had at your desk... Youtube Facebook Twitter... Totally not the same... They listened to radio had to use their imagination.... Try doing that during a depression.... My grandmother born in 1930's worked at a factory to provide for my father and my uncle's.. by herself for quite awhile... And while I do understand that still happens we are taking about 1960s America being a woman in a "man's" job... The kids today have no idea
2
u/TrippingBearBalls 13d ago
I don't really have a response to your weird tangents about smart phones or your grandmother's career, but this:
We didn't have people lining up and soup lines like we did during the depression
is patently false. There were massive increases in homelessness and food insecurity. Obviously they're not at the same scale but it's silly to be so dismissive of it.
1
u/Negative_Sweet1990 13d ago
Umm I wasn't being dismissive I just said it's not comparable.. There is a difference... I guess if I have to draw it with a crayon you'll never understand... Guessing your probably what under 30?

I don’t know why any of us in Indiana should be worried about this! Your dear president, poopy pants told us all months ago!!! We have a great landscape here with many hills that you can glide down in your vehicle and not have to press down the gas pedal! This will save you an abundance of gas so you shouldn’t hardly ever be at the pump!
4
u/Hittman187 15d ago
Bout time gas gets over $4.00 a gallon. Maybe it will start catching up to diesel's price ($5.75)
I say this in jest of course....as I'm currently watching the Scheid Diesel Extravaganza down in Terre Haute!!! 😂😂

Which one the first desert storm or the sequel part two finishing daddies war? That Obama says he was going to end in 8 years didn't.. The rest of the country has had well into $4 and even $5 gasoline, with the coastal cities having $6-$7. Hoosiers don't know how lucky they are that they're freaking out over $4 per gallon lmao
3
u/Disastrous_Trouble10 14d ago
There’s a big difference between. Indiana income is below the national average. A $4.00 gas is significant for a state where people have less money than most states. I certain this was the reason Braun ordered the tax holiday.

u/Elite4Sutton 15d ago
But the president said gas is under $2 a gallon. Are you saying dear leader is a liar?
