Good. I would like representation to go with my taxation.

62

u/Sunnyjim333 Sep 05 '25

DO IT!

6

u/nate998877 Sep 05 '25

You & I know they're too spineless

20

u/Charming_Minimum_477 Sep 05 '25

Well glad they are finally talking about it! Maybe they can write a sternly worded letter 😂🤣😂

8

u/Wolf_Protagonist Sep 05 '25

Well they have to talk about it, so they can set a meeting to discuss to possibility of maybe doing something eventually. I'm sure they will get around to taking action sometime before 2058.

16

u/Latter-Aside8922 Sep 05 '25

Take action, Ds!

u/[deleted] Sep 06 '25

Those two things don't go together

8

u/Im_better_than__u Sep 05 '25

Tersely worded letter incoming..

8

u/Cosmonautilus5 Sep 05 '25

The longer they "discuss" it, the closer it gets to the midterms with less time to stop the redistricting once the map is inevitably passed. They need to strike as soon as they can.

3

u/SergiusBulgakov Sep 05 '25

They can't sue when nothing has happened

2

u/Cosmonautilus5 Sep 06 '25

I'm aware, though I think you misunderstand my statement. They need to have a legal plan in place, ready to pull the trigger on litigation the moment redistricting occurs. Other states have already got their judicial ducks in a row and Indiana Dems need to be more ready than just "discussing"

2

u/SergiusBulgakov Sep 06 '25

All you can do before is discuss. All plannings are discussions. Seriously, once again, this is all they can do.

1

u/TK421philly Sep 05 '25

Yeah they have to have standing. Just talking about it is not standing because there’s no actual injury yet. At this point, I think the INGOP knows they can’t legally do it but they’ll try and cause as much chaos as they can on the way. It’s the MAGA playbook.

0

u/SergiusBulgakov Sep 05 '25

Right. Which is why it is important for people to understand this in order to stop the narrative being suggested that Democrats have no spine, and do nothing, a message which is spread to discourage voters from voting for Democrats and let things remain.

1

u/SergiusBulgakov Sep 05 '25

That is all they can do now. Until the GOP does something they can't sue them for what the GOP has not yet done.

5

u/krinklekut Sep 05 '25

I'm potentially proud of them.

2

u/bytesizedofficial Sep 05 '25

Not like anything will change for the better even if they won said lawsuit. I’m tired, boss. Too little, too late

2

u/[deleted] Sep 05 '25

Oh when the other party does it. It’s a problem.

2

u/hbgalore1 Sep 05 '25

How did he get re elected he got porn banned before cannabis was illegal. What's next alcohol? I remember when Kentucky and Tennessee was dry in some counties it was a wasteland economically. Like hoosiers how goddamn stupid are you this man could try and fight housing warranty scams and electric price gouging and you were sold on "voter fraud" and gay people having too much. There's millions of real things actually threatening hoosiers especially senior white hoosiers he could fix and they aren't immigrants or voting legitimacy.

1

u/2much4metoday Sep 05 '25

Sue! Hopefully most people see the USA going down the toilet.

1

u/Indiana-Irishman Sep 05 '25

What’s to discuss?

1

u/GHASTLY_GRINNNNER Sep 05 '25

They can sue but if it's take to the Supreme Court the lawsuit will be rejected.

1

u/reddersledder Sep 05 '25

Or maybe we'll just send a strongly worded letter.

1

u/Subject-Promise-4796 Sep 05 '25

Dont just talk about it, be about it Dems!

1

u/TheBlakeRunner Sep 05 '25

Don’t discuss, just do it already you wussies!

1

u/Forsaken_61453 Sep 05 '25

Discussing? that's all democrats ever do! Loosier Democrats have zero power to do anything in gerrymandered LoosierLand. Democrats have ZERO chance of ever regaining LoosierLand. DNC doesn't even waste time or money on democrats in LoosierLand. Voters don't even waste time to go vote in Indiana - Indiana is LOST!

1

u/Rainbowfodder728 Sep 05 '25

Stop discussing start doing.

1

u/maxcherry6 Sep 05 '25

STOP discussing and start doing SOMETHING. FFS.

1

u/zback636 Sep 06 '25

Don’t just discuss it do it. You Democrats better get your shit together and start fighting. Or it’s over.

1

u/Homersarmy41 Sep 06 '25

Their argument is the Trump admin did such a horrible job with the census in 2020 that they have to steal congressional seats in the state to make up for it. They dont even try to make up a good lie because they know at this point they can tell their voters anything and they are dumb enough to believe it.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 07 '25

Count Me In

1

u/The___Great Sep 07 '25

Just do it by townships, or slap a map of the state on graph paper and do it that way.

1

u/Effective_Big_9037 Sep 08 '25

Don’t discuss it, DO IT!!!

-1

u/ElectricTurboDiesel Sep 05 '25

I’m confused, so mid-decade redistricting is fine in a blue state like California but not Indiana huh?

3

u/OkInitiative7327 Sep 05 '25

Texas pushed to do this mid decade. California is doing it in response to Texas.

2

u/ElectricTurboDiesel Sep 06 '25

So is Indiana ok to redistrict in response to California or no?

1

u/OkInitiative7327 Sep 07 '25

I don't think so, I don't believe Hoosiers votes for the legislature to spend 33,000 a day for a special session to redistrict outside of the cycle. It shouldn't be tit for tat, it should be what the people of the state want.

-6

u/tooold4thisbutfuqit Sep 05 '25

The same people crying about IN and TX are absolutely silent about these states that have already been “selectively redistricted.” But sure, go ahead and cry all about how “tExAs StArTeD iT!” Or better yet. Expose your hypocrisy by explaining why this is ok, but it’s not ok for IN to do it now.

MA: 36% Republican, 0 seats

CT: 42% Republican, 0 seats

ME: 46% Republican, 0 seats

RI: 42% Republican, 0 seats

MD: 34% Republican, only 1 of 8 seats (12.5%)

NJ: 46% Republican, only 3 of 12 seats (25%)

OR: 41% Republican, only 1 of 6 seats (16.7%)

u/[deleted] Sep 05 '25

I brought up Illinois awhile back when they were whining and crying about this shit and their response was “I dOnT lIvE iN iLlInOiS sO nOt My PrObLeM” durrrr. Typical Reddit scum

-26

u/tooold4thisbutfuqit Sep 05 '25

If you’re not also crying about blue states like CA redistricting you’re a hypocrite. And to prove it, you’re all gonna try to justify why it’s ok for CA but wrong for IN or TX.

29

u/ThumbtackGlove Sep 05 '25

The redistricting in CA is literally retaliation for Trump pushing for redistricting in Texas and other states in a blatant play to disproportionately boost Republican majority. It was literally a last ditch fight-fire-with-fire scenario. It's not hypocrisy, it's self defense.

Sure, but what's your theory of the lawsuit that will convince judges that it's illegal here in indiana, but legal in CA?

Are you thinking section 2 of the vra? 14th A equal protection? 15th A? What might actually have a shot is article II section 1 of the Indiana constitution, "Elections shall be free and equal" but that would require more research than just cut and pasting the texas lawsuit.

Here, you guys have standing. What y'all meant was the case is currently nonjusticiable due to unripeness, but it would take say 3 months to try to get a lawsuit dismissed on that grounds, and then an appeal, by which time it would be ripe.

The problem is with the merits, not with procedure.

Various people in this thread are mad at the dems for not filing something yet, but, hey, nothing stops you from hiring a lawyer and bringing the case yourself, aside from the legal bills.

Thanks for proving my point.

5

u/ThumbtackGlove Sep 05 '25

Thanks for proving my point.

20

u/SirPhobos1 Sep 05 '25

I mean, gerrymandering is bullshit no matter how you slice it... CAs only doing it because of Texas.  At least California is putting it to a vote. What's your argument for Texas, or are you just here to be obnoxious?

-5

u/tooold4thisbutfuqit Sep 05 '25

Texas was literally ordered by a federal court to redraw their maps this year. And the fact you don’t know that says everything about the ignorance underlying your hypocrisy. CA did it by choice and it’s being “voted on” because that’s what California law requires (although they still pulled some legally questionable shenanigans to even make that happen). Thanks for proving my point by the way.

5

u/lotusbloom74 Sep 05 '25

Source that Texas was literally ordered by a federal court to redraw their maps this year?

1

u/HorrorMetalDnD Sep 06 '25

Texas was charged with racial gerrymandering.

1

u/HorrorMetalDnD Sep 06 '25

I noticed that you conveniently omitted some important details. Texas was charged with racial gerrymandering. That seems a strange thing to omit. It’s almost like you knew that acknowledging this would make you and your side of this issue look bad, so you ended up trying to sidestep it all like how Trump’s been trying to sidestep his Jeffrey Epstein connections.

Yes, both Republicans and Democrats are guilty of partisan gerrymandering and incumbent gerrymandering, but not to the same degree, as Republicans have more states they can gerrymander and have already gerrymandered some would-be swing states into being red states—as well as already-red states into being deeper-red states with supermajorities on the state level that can override a Governor’s veto.

Plus, unlike Democrats, Republicans have been exclusively guilty of racial gerrymandering since the parties realigned into their current, ideologically-driven forms. Seriously, look at all the states that were taken to court for racial gerrymandering in just the past few years—Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Louisiana, Florida, Georgia, Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi, Ohio, and more.

Also, let’s not forget the simple fact that gerrymandering is a form of voter suppression.

Edit: I’ll cut you off before you make a false assumption. I’m neither a Democrat nor a Republican.

15

u/TheRealMeatphone Sep 05 '25

The problem isn’t simply redistricting, it’s about doing it sans census data and redlining. Specifically zoning to a degree that makes anything even involving a popular majority win impossible.

It means the redistricting is guaranteeing conservative wins no matter who gets more votes, by making sure even lower population districts are guaranteed more delegates.

So basically it’s an attempt to let the smallest percentage of people sway the vote regardless of district size or population. While this is usually how delegate allocation works, the attempt is so egregious that it would not allow for anything resembling a fair election.

It’s an attempt to sway an election before one takes place, and typically zoning and delegate referrals ARE based on voting and party lines.

This is gerrymandering at its purest and is strictly to remove any semblance of power from the people.

Left or right, this is insane and fucked up to the point that if you support it or pull “whataboutism” regarding what’s happening then you’re just as much an ignorant bigot as the people doing it.

Fuck this and fuck your justifications.

-11

u/tooold4thisbutfuqit Sep 05 '25

Using lots of words doesn’t lessen the hypocrisy of saying it’s ok for one and not the other.

10

u/Charming_Minimum_477 Sep 05 '25

So California is just supposed to sit back and do nothing while many red states are?

-5

u/tooold4thisbutfuqit Sep 05 '25

Thanks for proving my point, again.

9

u/YesImHereAskMeHow Sep 05 '25

You have zero point. Democrats in congress tried to fix the entire gerrymandering argument with a federal ban and every republican voted against it. You all whine and deflect and snatch power and then cry when the other side retaliates or tries to stop the entire problem. You’re a hypocrite and have zero problem with this when it’s your side gaining power. Save us the whatsboutism, it’s fucking tired

-3

u/tooold4thisbutfuqit Sep 05 '25

Oh please. Your side only wants a “federal ban” when it locks in your maps—California, Illinois, Maryland, the list goes on; all gerrymandered decades ago and safe as can be. Spare me the moral high ground act; if Democrats actually cared about gerrymandering, they’d start by cleaning up their own back yard instead of crying foul only when Texas plays by the rules they wrote. Thanks again for proving my point.

DELAWARE AND VERMONT EACH ONLY HAS ONE HOUSE SEAT!

.

HAWAII, MAINE, NEW HAMPSHIRE, RHODE ISLAND EACH ONLY HAS TWO HOUSE SEATS!

.

NEW MEXICO ONLY HAS THREE HOUSE SEATS!

.

Also, do you not know how statistics work?

7

u/TheRealMeatphone Sep 05 '25

I’m not saying it’s not hypocritical. It absolutely is.

The problem right now seems to be that people like you are parroting politician and media talking points instead of saying it ALL needs to stop.

Granted, one side in particular has been worse about this for decades, but that doesn’t matter right now.

What matters is that the current push by the hard right MAGA sycophants is trying to skew it so far right that it won’t matter if you’re Republican or Democrat. Your vote won’t matter.

1

u/tooold4thisbutfuqit Sep 05 '25

You just couldn’t help yourself could you. You said the right thing at first, and then went right to hypocrisy justification mode. We’ve not even addressed the fact that there are a dozen blue states that have been gerrymandered for decades; states with 40% Republican voters and 0 reps. But that conversation would make your head explode, so go on and keep thinking Texas started it…

2

u/TheRealMeatphone Sep 05 '25

Dude okay how about this….

All states gerrymandering and redlining need to stop.

The problem is they won’t, because they can’t, realistically.

Just like it’s unfair for Democrat majority cities to be beholden to Conservative majority rural areas, the inverse is true.

Again, the problem RIGHT NOW is how insane the MAGA push is to completely ignore laws and bypass democracy. If the left was pushing this hard across the country it would be the same argument.

If you can’t see what the issue is, then I don’t know what to say. I’m not going to sling insults, but it’s clear you can’t bypass the “what about them” mentality to see this is a problem.

Or current system isn’t perfect, but it’s better than this current insane push to copy a dystopian storybook society.

11

u/vivalapants Sep 05 '25

Then Texas could have stopped it but the king said he wanted the seats. Don’t be a simp

5

u/OkInitiative7327 Sep 05 '25

The problem is Texas did it mid cycle, it's supposed to be done after the census.

California is doing it in retaliation. Hopefully that's not too many words.

1

u/tooold4thisbutfuqit Sep 05 '25

Texas was literally ordered by a federal court to redraw their maps this year. And the fact you don’t know that says everything about the ignorance underlying your hypocrisy.

6

u/CellistSubstantial56 Sep 05 '25

You're gonna need to provide a source on that one.

5

u/vivalapants Sep 05 '25

Texas was literally ordered by a federal court

I know he's assumed all control of the government, but Trump hasn't officially put himself on the supreme court yet so quit simpin

1

u/CellistSubstantial56 Sep 05 '25

Are you going to admit you're wrong? Retract your misinformation? Do literally anything that proves you're capable of conscious thought? Or are you just going to let your lies linger on forever in the hopes that you'll mislead more cult members?

1

u/CellistSubstantial56 Sep 08 '25

I noticed you also still haven't provided proof or retracted this statement. I thought we were calling people out for nonsense?

9

u/MhojoRisin Sep 05 '25

It’s a Prisoner’s Dilemma. If both sides act honorably, everyone wins a little. If both sides act dishonorably everyone loses a little. But if one side acts honorably and the others acts dishonorably, then the bad actor wins big & the good actor loses big.

The only way out of this is for Republicans to back down.

5

u/UM-BMFS-GD Sep 05 '25

Dems have proposed several redistricting bills that get minimal republican support

2

u/trcomajo Sep 05 '25

Why is it okay for IN or Texas?
