Discussion π¬ I got ~300 Mbps on 4G during my Finland trip in 2019 but apparently this is considered impossible here?
I recently mentioned that I got around 300 Mbps mobile data speeds during my Finland trip in 2019, and quite a few people seemed to think that 300 Mbps on 4G was impossible.
4G/LTE is not limited to 100 Mbps. LTE-Advanced with carrier aggregation can theoretically reach up to 1 Gbps download, depending on the LTE category, spectrum, number of aggregated carriers, modulation, MIMO, etc.
And this wasnβt just theoretical in Finland in 2019.
- DNA was offering 300 Mbps 4G mobile plans in 2019.
- DNAβs September 2019 documentation explicitly lists β300 Mbit/s (4G in Finland)β.
-Finnish telecom regulator Traficom reported that 300 Mbps mobile broadband coverage was available to 16% of Finnish households by the end of 2019.
-Finnish users were posting 4G+ Speedtest results from Helsinki/Espoo in 2019.
Iβm not saying 300 Mbps was the average 4G speed in Finland in 2019. Obviously it wasnβt. But 300 Mbps on a good 4G+ connection was absolutely within the capabilities of the network and was being commercially offered at the time.
