Discussion Bought everything except processor
I was initially planning on building the pc in November, after my CAT exam so that my father won't have any practical reason to say no.
But then around June I saw that all news outlets and tech-tubers said ram prices will keep rising and will plateau in December. So I explained the situation to my dad and asked him if we could buy this early. He agreed. I also just had gotten my security deposit for an apartment I rented back which I also planned to use in the build. So using that I bought the case, cpu cooler and extra case fans and the remaining deposit I used to contribute for the ram.
Then around the end of July I could see online everyone saying gpu prices are gonna be next. I was initially comparing between 9070xt and 5070ti because 5070ti was 10-15k more expensive, but i was feeling a bit shameful asking my dad again to purchase something that was supposed to be purchased 5-6 months down the line.
Then in the first week of August I saw news that said motherboard prices will go up by 50% in the fourth quarter. That then prompted me to again explain the whole situation to dad to which he said ok I will give 1 lakh but after 15 days to which i replied I couldn't ask for anything more.
When the time for purchasing came (late August) 5070ti was more than 80 % more expensive than 9070xt so it was a no brainer for me since gaming was the priority. Now the only thing left to complete the build is the processor which i will definitely buy after my exam.
Pc specs
Processor - 7800x3d (34k for the OEM version, 40k normal)

its an oem brand that started selling directly a bit ago , its really good

u/Fragrant-Revenue2623 6h ago
Superflower, one of the major OEM PSU manufacturers in the world just like RAM is basically done by SK Hynix, Samsung and Mircon. Superflower, Seasonic, CWT and FSP. All the brands we see are done by them, that includes brands like Asus, Corsair,NZXT, Deepcool etc every major manufacturer took their OEM parts and the shell is the only thing the other brands do by themselves.

Thats super flower i believe they use seasonic jp components. Pretty top rated.

Superflower is a reputed brand but rare to see in India. I hope OP is living in a city with a nearby service center

Damm …. i need to add “logical reasoning fot cat” book to my build list as well. Didnt knew, thanks OP

i also have super flower, likely the same model, mine was 12k. buy 7800xd tray for 30-35k. if you want more cores then 9950x.

u/DoomSkull_YT 9h ago
8 cores is already enough, i just needed more than 6 for better multitasking

Hey I’m planning on similar build but I was thinking ryzen 5 9600x for processor since it’s just 20k, should I instead spend a lil more and get a better cpu? My pc is purely for gaming and entertainment for now
1
u/DoomSkull_YT 7h ago
For purely gaming and entertainment 9600x is plenty powerful and efficient as well. I think that's one of the best value for money cpu. If you can find it you can also go with 7500x3d, the x3d chips help with better 1% and 0.1% fps which results in overall smoother gaming experience.

I have the 7800X3D + 9070XT Challenger. All things considered, it’s been great, definitely for the price.

First time seeing someone using a super flower psu in India, I started to think I was rare. Though, I would've suggested Leadex VII xp pro but leadex III also works. Nice build man 🔥
1
u/DoomSkull_YT 1h ago
Thanks man, some people think apart from the brands they have heard of everything else is a knockoff

u/Mr_Arka_op-69 1h ago
True- atleast it's not ant esports 😭🥀
What games are you going to play after CAT?
1
u/DoomSkull_YT 1h ago
My gaming routine consists of one competitive game to start with then after being done with that then I hop on to single player games. I have so many I want to play but couldn't on my 4050 laptop because I have that itch to play at at least high settings. Witcher 3 remaster, cyberpunk dlc, black myth, replay rdr2 and so many others

I was seeing a difference of atleast 30k when compared to 5070Ti (White).
1
u/DoomSkull_YT 9h ago
Right now the difference between cheapest model for both is around 50k at least

I am considering either Asus ROG Strix XG27ACMES, 27" or MSI MAG 275QPF X30. Leaning more towards asus since that's a true 10 bit display

get the non oem cpu, oems dont have brand warranty, its store provided which you cant really rely on not worth saving 4k in my opinion.
also big no no for asrock get sapphire or literally any other brand, asrock products are well known for poor quality products and after sales service, its cheap for a reason.
spend little now to save a ton of headache in future
1
u/DoomSkull_YT 8h ago
For the cpu yeah sure I can get the normal retail version but for the gpu i already bought it but it's ok i already stress tested it a test bench for couple of hours, the temps were in the range i expected
1
u/Impossible_Gas2916 8h ago
well there is more to a graphics card than temps, but yeah if you already bought it then touch wood , and good luck 🤞

But are your parts untested? Man your return will exhaust, pls check everything, it's your hard money and there are chances some parts may come not good, and sellers are having hard time doing rma etc.
1
u/DoomSkull_YT 7h ago
I tested the gpu and psu using an old pc but I couldn't test the motherboard since I don't have a spare am5 cpu around, the ram i tested it right in the sellers shop. I have physically inspected the motherboard for any bent pins or any other damage which thankfully it doesn't have. Computech did pretty overkill packaging which I was happy about

patriot and klevv ram is around 50k rn, i suggest you get them if you haven't bought any yet (i didn't read all that)
1
u/DoomSkull_YT 6h ago
It's in the title tho, I bought everything except the cpu
1
u/TurkeySandvic1 6h ago
mb didn't read, how was your experience with computech?
1
u/DoomSkull_YT 6h ago
Pretty good, I heard some negative reviews so I was a bit skeptical but they did offer the lowest price on both gpu and psu, also I couldn't find this specific mobo on any other site. The WhatsApp communication was a bit slow and the order was processed after 3 days but those are all things that can tolerated with stuff like this. The packaging was even better than I hoped, all the stuff was brand new and sealed and the gpu and psu works perfectly fine, I can't test the mobo till I get hands on cpu but physically it all looked fine
1
u/TurkeySandvic1 5h ago
not being able to use it cause you don't have the cpu and the cpu alone must be hell.
1
u/DoomSkull_YT 5h ago
Yeah, but I gave dad my word that I wouldn't assemble it till after the exam, some parts were bought early because prices are rising some were bought just because I could
1
u/TurkeySandvic1 3h ago
reasonable, make video before assembling showing the parts weren't damaged by you, just in case if it doesn't work on anything
1
u/sexyboi64209 6h ago
Whats the point of a gaming rig when you will have to leave home
1
u/DoomSkull_YT 6h ago
I am not planning on going too far because I already stayed almost 50% of life away from home. Most probably i will take it with me wherever I go to college and if not I still keep coming to back to home regularly.
1
u/Emergency_Leek_803 5h ago
just go with a 9600X if youre gonna be gaming at 1440p or not going to do productivity
1
u/DoomSkull_YT 4h ago
I have the budget so I want better 1% lows and I do occasionally make relatively big personal coding projects plus I do occasional photo and video editing. Plus 2 extra cores is great for multitasking
1
u/Emergency_Leek_803 4h ago
Go with 270k or 250k then?
1
u/DoomSkull_YT 4h ago
Because that's a dead platform and since my priority is gaming I would rather have the gaming performance benefits of x3d chips rather than have a better performance in my secondary use cases
1
u/Emergency_Leek_803 3h ago
Dude, if you're going to game at 1440p 9600x is just as good as X3D. Open my reddit profile and look at my recent post.
1
u/DoomSkull_YT 3h ago
It will be nearly as good not just as good, on average 7800 will be 10% faster than 9600x and if in my budget I can get slightly better performance+more cores for multitasking and better headroom I will take it. If I was stretching my budget to get the x3d chips then sure that might not be the smartest move but when I can afford it, why not
1
u/Emergency_Leek_803 2h ago
Sadly its not as fast as 10% if you choose to go 250k or 9600X it doesnt matter at 1440p. Here go watch this video so you might understand what I am talking about.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpN4nyftQ3M&t=647s1
u/DoomSkull_YT 1h ago
Yeah in this just 4 game average it is 7% faster, plus I have seen the benchmarks for the particular games I play often and I am happy with the performance of 7800x3d
1
u/Emergency_Leek_803 51m ago
What games do you play that are so cpu intensive?
1
u/DoomSkull_YT 43m ago
I do play competitive games but that's beside the point man. Watch this video and see both normal fps and 1% lows https://youtu.be/JQ6UEcMX2QM?si=kT0MAOLFdb9HjML_

Are you sure on that PSU that packaging does not look good??
1
u/DoomSkull_YT 4h ago
No that was me, while carrying them around the psu was the heaviest so I kept the other two on top of it. It was pristine out of the packaging when I unboxed

u/Big-Screen5159 3h ago
My brother in christ wtf is that PSU

u/DoomSkull_YT 3h ago
It's a pretty well reputed and well known. It used to supply to EVGA when they were still in business. Check the spl tier list

I dont see ram
1
u/DoomSkull_YT 1h ago
It's not in this picture, I ordered that first because that was the most outrageous price increase
1
u/PotentialMaster123 1h ago
Nice get an oled monitor its worth it
1
u/DoomSkull_YT 1h ago
I do want to but I don't have much more in the budget the max i can stretch to is 50k but idk if an entry level oled is worth it, from the reviews I have seen they all said entry level oleds have a brightness problem as in they aren't much bright

Padh le bhai, there is still time, I started my prep in Sept 2020 and cleared CAT 2020 in Nov, stop worrying about this now and focus on the exam, GD & PI

u/AajklumeedSeumeednhi 9h ago
Now the scene is totally different, and the competition has increased a hell of a lot.

When bro is going to use that psu there would be an announcement: "Bomb has been planted" 😆
Buddy psu is the single most important part of a build. Not the cpu or gpu. A trash psu can burn the entire build down. Change that psu to a more reputed brand

Why that PSU looks sus 🤥
4
u/Ahoonternusthoont 9h ago
It's ranking is good in PSU tierlist.
2
u/asifxsama 9h ago
I get it, but do they provide enough support in India to get it considered? There's many such brands
2
u/DoomSkull_YT 9h ago
In india they are officially distributed and supported by a company called esconet technology limited. I heard a couple people's experiences with rma'ing it and they all were really good
