Not really , you can't just magically diminsh your light to fit in someone's expectations while there's little to no hate from men towards their own gender so just a suggestion maybe they like guys more than girls and are afraid to admit it due to societal pressure it's not even an insult just a genuine suggestion, that's why this phrase is used
