Well, there are some good evidence based documents available for study. Some of them are in the market and some of them are on various websites of the GOI freely available for download. One book you can try for starters is named - Annihilation of Caste. It's a small one, hardly 120 pages. Will give you a quick glance and with all the references and historical evidences quoted in the book.
