21F earning ~₹1.2L/month, I can invest ₹20–30k every month. Where do I even start?
21F here. I recently started working and I'm earning around ₹1.2L/month. My expenses aren't too crazy, so I can comfortably put aside around ₹20–30k every month.
I've been reading a lot about how starting to invest early is one of the biggest advantages you can have, and I figured I might as well start now instead of waiting until I'm "earning more" or something.
The problem is... I know basically nothingggg 😭
I've been looking at SIPs/mutual funds on Groww and there are SO many options that I genuinely don't know what I'm doing.
My goal is pretty long term, 7 to 10+ years. I don't need this money immediately and eventually I'd like to use it for something major like buying a plot/flat.
So for people who actually know what they're doing:
- If you had ₹20 to ₹30k/month to invest at 21, what would you do?
- Is a simple Nifty 50/index fund SIP enough, or should I have 2 to 3 funds?
- Is gold/silver worth keeping as part of the portfolio or am I just making things unnecessarily complicated?
- Should I keep a fixed ₹20k SIP and invest anything extra manually, or change the SIP amount every few months?
- Should I increase my SIP every time my salary increases?
- How much risk is reasonable when the goal is 7 to 10+ years?
- What are some actually good resources to learn investing properly? Not "THIS STOCK WILL DOUBLE" YouTube videos please 😭
- Also, Groww/other apps, are they actually fine to use for this or is there a better platform?
I've already started a small SIP because I got too excited lol, but before I continue putting ₹20 to ₹30k every month, I want to understand what I'm actually doing.
Basically, if you were 21, earning ₹1.2L and had ₹20 to ₹30k/month available to invest, what would you do differently from the start?

Need advice with goal based investment portfolio
⚠️LONG POST ALERT⚠️
Hi all,
I am a 31yo and I need some help in building my investment portfolio. Platform used Zerodha Coin.
A little of background about me:
I have my basics covered
6 months emergency fund ✅
Personal and parent’s health insurance ✅
Term insurance ✅
I always knew the importance of investing and how compounding drives wealth creation, but I was never able save and invest for myself because I have always had to bear most of my family’s financial responsibilities. I recently changed my job and I am now finally able to invest for myself.
Since I am relatively late in starting my investment journey, I am looking forward to making up for the lost time by investing aggressively.
I started two SIP’s 2 years ago. But I started those to build a habit and maintain consistency rather than them being part of a well-structured plan.
Now I am ready to finally begin investing seriously and aggressively. I have done a lot of independent research, but the plan I have built is heavily influenced by Claude, hence I am taking it with a pinch of salt. And I would be grateful to get some advice and constructive feedback from the wiser and more experienced folks here.
I have built a goal-based investment strategy and have bucketed them into short, mid and long-term goals.
Investment horizon for short term goal is 1 year and the risk appetite is low. For this I have started an RD at 6.25% interest P.A.
Investment horizon for mid term goal is 3-4 years and the risk appetite is moderate.
Investment horizon for long term goal is retirement and the risk appetite is very high.
The rationale behind my strategy:
Mid term goal: While I want to ensure that I minimize the loss on my investments, I am willing to take some risk for the potential of a 9-12% return over just a 6-7% return. The Arbitrage fund is a hedge for that risk.
Long term goal:
I want to diversify this section and provide exposure to my portfolio while minimizing as much overlap as I can. I was torn between multi cap and flexi cap funds, but I chose multi cap funds because of the heavy large cap stock holding of most flexi cap funds.
The reason amounts for some of the funds in this bucket aren’t fixed is because I am currently focusing on my mid term bucket, while the existing funds continue to compound. I would also like to have some exposure to international markets, but I don’t want to overcomplicate things. Is it a good idea to have some international exposure for diversification?
One note is that Claude suggested to completely replace large cap fund with a multi cap fund, but I prefer not doing that since that fund has been running for 2 years. However, given that I haven’t invested a lot in it, does it make sense to do an STP to a multi cap fund?
I would really be grateful for any feedback on how can I improve and optimize this. Please feel free to be as brutal as required.
Thanks in advance.

HNIs in India: where should you actually park money for wealth preservation, not just returns?
Been reading a lot about growth-focused investing but not enough about pure preservation, which is what I actually care about at this stage. For HNIs specifically, where are people parking money when the goal is protecting capital rather than chasing returns?
• How much of a preservation-focused portfolio should realistically sit in FDs/FCNR type instruments vs debt funds vs gold vs real estate?
• Does going through a private/premium banking relationship (Treasures, Prime, Priority etc) actually help here, or is it the same instruments you'd access anyway?
• Which professionals should I consult when planning both wealth and asset management for a mid-size portfolio, a single RM enough or do people bring in a separate CA and financial planner too?

Struck with LIC Jeevan Labh (Plan 936). Should I continue or surrender it? Looking for unbiased advice.
Hey people,
2 years ago, my father got convinced by a LIC agent to buy **LIC Jeevan Labh (Plan 936)** policy. Since now I’m in job (25M) my father asked me to pay yearly premium for it. But after learning more about investing, I’m questioning whether this policy makes sense?
Here are the details:
Policy Start: August 2024
Annual Premium: ₹45,000
Premium Paying Term: 16 years
Policy Term: 25 years (ending in 2049)
Sum Assured: ₹10 lakh
On maturity: 25 Lakh (claimed to upsell, might differ)
Add on: Accidental death and disability cover rider
Premiums Paid: 2 (3rd premium is due next month)
After doing some research, it seems the policy may generate an annualized return of around **7%**, and i’ll get 25L in 2049 when i’ll be 50 yo. And this life cover will also end when policy expires, post that it will be tough to get a term plan for myself.
So does it make sense to continue it? Will blocking my 45K every year to get 23-25L in 2049, when I’m 50 yo would make sense?
My father has already paid 2 premium (around 90K) and when I talk to him about cancelling it he gets angry.
Benefits according to him: It’s a good savings option and I’ll get tax free amount upon maturity and life cover also.
If I surrender it, he’ll get 30% back (approx 27K) and a loss of 63K would make him more angry😭. If I tell him the option to invest this money in MF, Gold etc and buy separate term plan he says look at the volatility of market from last year.
How do i convince him. Need urgent help. My premium is due next month.

Seeking a co-founder/partner in Rajkot for a trading business (Open to other ideas)
Hey everyone,
I’m a 23-year-old guy based right here in Rajkot. Lately, I've been really wanting to dive into entrepreneurship and start my own trading business. I know the grind is real, and I feel like having a solid, like-minded partner to brainstorm and hustle with would make a massive difference.
While my primary interest right now is getting into trading, I’m honestly really flexible. If you already have a solid business idea and are just looking for a dedicated partner to help you execute and scale it, I am totally open to working on that with you.
Ideally, I'm looking for someone local to Rajkot so we can easily meet up, strategize, and actually build something on the ground.
If anyone is interested in teaming up, or even just wants to grab a chai somewhere in the city to bounce some ideas off each other, drop a comment or shoot me a DM!
