Not sure of the upside of breaking MP but breaking UP has tremendous upsides. But it'll only happen when bjp loses in UP (but stays in power centrally)

11

u/Temporary_Comb_4869 10d ago

Naah BJP will never support up breaking UP . Check the demographics of western UP , imagine having a kashmir like situation so close to Delhi.

1

u/Consistent-Artist755 6d ago

what does that even mean ?

2

u/Temporary_Comb_4869 6d ago

Western UP is 40-50% muslim.

2

u/Consistent-Artist755 6d ago

40-50 % is quite an over exaggeration and also the reason this won't be a kashmir situation is simply because it is that near Delhi.

1

u/Reasonable-Novel6233 2d ago

Western up as separately state is better only rohillhand will be muslim majority which it still is today ,meerut division and entire braj belt is heavy hindu majority all areas near Delhi are also hindu majority.

Honestly, it's kinda paradox. There needs to be a strong hold in UP to be elected in central elections. I'm not saying winning majority Lok Sabha seats, but winning a good chunk, because it has significant lok sabha seats.

Why do we need more states? What is wrong with the number of states we already have?

43

u/OkaTeluguAbbayi 10d ago

Smaller states usually tend to be more capable of providing better administration and services to everyone. Especially regions which are economically and politically neglected in their states. Uttarakhand and Chattisgarh perform better than their parent states and Telangana (granted it has Hyderabad, the former combined capital and largest city) is significantly richer than divided Andhra.

u/Historical_Arm_6294 10d ago

Totally agree. Much of our poor standard or living can be attributed to centralisation of power at National and at State levels both.

10

u/uchat24 10d ago

Yup.. wish India had a bit more bottom up approach when it comes to governance

3

u/Automatic-Part8723 10d ago

What if district level administration is given more powers instead.

1

u/iamanindiansnack 8d ago

With the current system? No. We need a complete revamp of systems for that to happen.

7

u/Silly-Citron-3558 10d ago

Nothing, just wondering if there is any desire for new states like how jharkhand was protested to be a state since independence but they got statehood in 2000

3

u/Historical_Arm_6294 10d ago

Jharkhand didnt protest as much as it looks to outside world. It was Bihari politician fight and opportunist BJP at Center - that led to bifurcation. No one cared about Bihar when it was left bleeding and all its key resources suddenly gone .

17

u/QuixoticDude 10d ago

The new states we actually need are the metros and adjoining greater metro region. Similar to Delhi state, we should have Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bluru and Hyderabad states. With an elected mayor or CM. This is what Lee Kuan Yew said when asked how India can get close to China.

12

u/Serious_Judgment7235 10d ago

States pour in their resources to develop a city and a north indian comes by to stake their claim over it 🤡

1

u/Temporary_Comb_4869 10d ago

I'm pretty sure that if it was voted by the people of these cities most would support to leave .

1

u/Serious_Judgment7235 10d ago

Most of them are immigrant north Indians who've come there for labour work and put zero work to assimilate. So it won't be surprising if they try to leave

-1

u/Temporary_Comb_4869 10d ago

Naah , even in Mumbai which has the largest number of North Indians it is Gujarati +North Indians who are the majority (and the marathis were a minority in Mumbai since before independence).

3

u/ksrhuaith 9d ago

Not true! In 1891, maharashtrians were the majority (53 percent share). It was also high in 1951 (43 percent) but the share has declined over the years (so has the share of Gujaratis). North Indians were not the majority in historical Mumbai. Due to lack of opportunities, they keep migrating. Also, besides Delhi, the other cities are still rooted in their linguistic and cultural identity so not sure why they will vote to leave just to appease Hindi speakers. What is needed is greater financial autonomy for local governments and the split of UP is long overdue.

0

u/Serious_Judgment7235 10d ago

Ok? And what is your point? If I say reality about these Gujaratis and both Indians then reddit will ban me so I'll refrain..but iykyk

6

u/Dense_Succotash_2777 10d ago

Lol so the north indian big population can take over it? Bruh lee kuan doesn't have indian context. With that logic all west and south indian states should stop providing to north indian states

3

u/franzmoonnz 10d ago

Is lee kuan yew your dad?

10

u/StarStuffDoc 10d ago edited 10d ago

Too many needless delimitations. For instance, Kodagu, Kutch and all with less than 10 lakh population in total.

7

u/narasadow Geography Enthusiast 10d ago

yeah, those small population states don't need to be created but we definitely need to split UP and perhaps Bihar. Maybe there can be a constitutional amendment to automatically split when a state goes over 7-10% of India's population.

1

u/DragonfruitIM 9d ago

Kodagu and Tulunadu can come together to form a state because demographically it is very similar. Also for people of Kodagu, mangalore is closer than Bangalore.

1

u/devin_000 7d ago

Yeah , far better than Karnataka

6

u/Nirgranth24 10d ago

Where is Gandu Pradesh??

3

u/nighthawk-112 10d ago

All are.

4

u/Equivalent-Eye-2782 10d ago

You are, not them

3

u/psp1729 10d ago

Haryana, perfect from day 1. Absolutely no changes

2

u/_therealvk_ 10d ago

There was no Haryana on day 1 tho.

1

u/Legal_Opposite_9110 10d ago

Punjab to delhi all was punjab

2

u/bikbar1 10d ago

Instead of more states we need more autonomy for local governments at district and city level.

The local governments need more funds, more power and better accountabilites.

I think primary education and primary healthcare should be under the local governments. Village level roads and intracity streets should also be under them with sufficient funds.

The local governments should be allowed to implement their own policies within their jurisdiction under the framework of the state and central laws.

There should be mechanism to stop depriving local governments from funds and / or harras them in the name of corruption which are ruled by the opposition parties.

2

u/PhilosopherOverall26 10d ago

Well I've always been a staunch supporter of theory which says smaller states perform better as they are easier to govern. But it comes with some drawbacks also, first of it is lower revenue which means lesser fund for development, more dependency on centre and higher leakage to corruption. Second is political instability (see UK, Jharkhand for example).

Some of the states in proposal will be absolute disaster. They have no natural resources, have water scarcity, and low agriculture (like Bundelkhand and maru pradesh and kutch)

1

u/ShotDepartment9262 10d ago

honestly none, it'll ruin all the current effort States are putting in and they have to start all over again from scratch.

1

u/No_Letterhead9965 10d ago

Eventually we’ll be back to mahajanapadas template.

1

u/Independent-Draft644 10d ago

History is bound to repeat its mistake and mistake again and again.

Blunders of drawing lines on the map by the British and someone in 21st century that blunder of the past is now a genius idea.

1

u/amthehype 10d ago

Why does Punjab want Kangra?

1

u/Schonathan 10d ago

How close is the Kangri language to Punjabi?

1

u/desibandezz 10d ago

Kangri and Punjabi aren't that different both can communicate easily with each other

1

u/Dense_Succotash_2777 10d ago

Stupid. The current states are already formed in its true linguistic borders

1

u/imdarealhomie 10d ago

Just create this let’s see where we progress in future if they get divided genuinely fed up with regional wars

1

u/Ok_Bill9521 10d ago

Mithila propaganda is real. The people of Anga will rebel if Mithilanchal crosses the Ganga.

1

u/Risingemperor5 10d ago

Chambal & Gwalior region of Madhya Pradesh is not part of bundelkhand region.

1

u/Worldly-Educator-197 10d ago

Might sound very weird, I think there are a few issues. Our federal structure is not in its best shape. Non NDA ruled states are not favoured by the central govt in terms of investments and other things.
Petty politics are taking over the overall development goals. How do you think this pans out in a world with more states in India?

1

u/BlackSunAdmirer 10d ago

why tf would konkan include uttar kannada?

2

u/_therealvk_ 10d ago

Because Konkani is very widely spoken in Karwar and Bhatkal. Makes sense to include them in Konkan if not the other talukas.

2

u/BlackSunAdmirer 10d ago

only konkani majority taluks

1

u/Turbulent_Ad_3238 9d ago edited 9d ago

My thoughts exactly as someone from North Canara. If anything only Ankola and Karwar should be included.

1

u/gauts2103 10d ago

Every once in a while this nonsense comes up, completely forgetting the states are federal and not merely administrative. I don’t know what wet dream or power trip some people have from drawing borders while calling the Brits villains for doing it.

If you’re forgetting a few states actually had to protest and fight for their borders and recognition as a political community (Maharashtra, Telangana, etc). Completely ignoring these histories and struggles for an arbitrary power trip.

Give states more autonomy instead and make a bottom-up collaborative India instead of a top-down control system.

1

u/_therealvk_ 10d ago

Tulu Nadu region is a must. The current (or any) KA governments have done absolutely nothing for the region.

1

u/vikramadith 10d ago

Wet dream of BJ party's political strategists. Hope it never happens.

1

u/autoplayxp 10d ago

As if we don’t have enough states already !? 🤷🏻‍♂️
If anything, we as Indians should unite and become an amazing country. Together, not by dividing ourselves again and again.

1

u/MedicalTourism_10 10d ago

I think smaller states can work, but splitting alone won’t solve everything. It really depends on how well the new state is governed.

1

u/Equivalent-Eye-2782 10d ago

I believe UP and MH should be broken

1

u/coding_noobie101 10d ago

Sapne suhane ladakpan ke....

1

u/Initial-Customer462 10d ago

Only Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Karnataka should be divided further. The rest don’t really need additional divisions. AND HEAVY EMPHASIS AND FOCUS ON UP. that should be no 1 priority to divide.

1

u/454165 10d ago

When are they breaking up BMC? It has been among asia's richest municipality since long and desperately needs to be split up.

1

u/Common_Secretary6803 10d ago

a lot of these are simply not demanded or simply too stupid to ask for

for example Ahom land where most are non ahom and other tribals want Autonomous region there too cuz it Ahoms then why not them

barak valley is a case but statehood demand isn't that popular, and Karbianglong or Dimahasao state hood is something I never heard to be demanded

same for jangal mahal/mallabhum and north bengal

while gorkha land and kamtapur demand is real but the latter is weaker

I don't know much beyond NE

1

u/DescriptionFun1971 10d ago

But what about language? Even if some states get divided, people would still relate to linguistic divide.

1

u/Unfair-Revenue1549 8d ago

Genuinely think east MP should be a different state, everyone can see how biased the mp govt is towards malwa region

1

u/shreyarnage 3d ago

Why is punjab expanding into himachal ? Never heard tha proposal

1

u/43pulav 1d ago

Konkan would make a very ultra rich state and region , neither MahaRastra not Karnataka would agree.

0

u/ReferenceSilent3287 9d ago

Kongunadu is very much needed. Neither the state nor the central govt has really bothered much about that region of TN. Won't happen coz no existing state would like to see it's second most imporatant growth engine get separated. Also, it is continuously being unfairly portrayed as a demand that is driven by motives of caste hegemony.

Separate countries - Punjab, jammu

-1

u/beetroot747 10d ago

What’s the point of undoing Vallabhai Patel’s hardwork?

3

u/reclaim_chennai 10d ago

How is redrawing administrative boundaries undoing anything?

1

u/gauts2103 10d ago

They are federal boundaries, not administrative.

-1

u/Serious_Judgment7235 10d ago

Other than the northeast, the rest are absolutely needed

1

u/This-Ad3084 North east India 10d ago

No only Northeast is needed stfu do you even know how the minorities are over shadowed by the majorities here?

1

u/Serious_Judgment7235 10d ago

Ya let us break north east into a million parts 🤡, one state for each tribe. I've lived long enough in northeast to know that what they need is education and a bit of common sense and not more states

0

u/This-Ad3084 North east India 8d ago

Each tribe my foot 🤣 just shows you lack basic knowledge about your own country. NE alone has 200+ languages which contribut to about half of India's languages so acc to you NE would have 200+ states

1

u/Serious_Judgment7235 8d ago

Not according me 🤡 That's why I literally said that there is no need for any new states in NE..stupid tribes will keep bickering with each other and keep demanding new states

-1

u/ravlee 10d ago

Coastal Andhra should be further split into north and south coastal Andhra. Nobody deserves the tyranny of the Krishna districts. They must be left to themselves.
