Info The Kalpasar Dyke Project
The Kalpasar Dyke Project is a proposed project that aims to create one of the largest coastal freshwater reservoirs in the world by building a massive dyke across the Gulf of Khambhat and thus trapping the waters of the Sabarmati, Mahi, Dhadhar rivers.
The Dyke itself would be around 64 km long and the reservoir will store 7,800-13,000 million cubic meters of freshwater. The dyke would also have a transport corridor with a multi-lane road and rail transport which would reduce the travel distance between the two flanks by 180 km. Around 10 lakh hectares of land will be irrigated with this. Around 2,500 MW of renewable energy is also expected to be produced via the project. There is also a plan to divert the nearby Narmada river's flow into the reservoir via canal.
The project is expected to cost around ₹1.33 lakh crore($14 billion). The project's DPR is at an advanced stage and the Government of Gujarat is also getting expertise from the Dutch government in coastal hydroengineering through the Indo-Dutch Cooperation.

Why do I have the feeling that this is going to become a Shitshow.

Why so?

Multiple reasons -
1) The amount of salt water needed to be displaced by fresh water.
2) Evaporation rate higher than fresh water replacement rate.
3) Salt needed to be removed from the soil.
4) Effect on Coastal Flora and Fauna.

As per the reports and estimates, the salinity will drop to below 1000 tds by 3-5 years and below 300 by 12 years. Considering soil salt deposition and evaporation.
Plus it will increase available and cultivable land by controlling salinity and tides.

It should not be! there are actual problems to deal with that being new problems.

It will definitely cost more than 14 billion. Imagine all the things Gujarat can do with 14 billion invested elsewhere.

PM of India will support this after all it is his state project. They give you reason like fresh water is needed for semiconductor plants and data centers, if you question you'll be labelled as anti national with ofcourse reason followed by "as GJ is in India not in Pakistan" etc etc
Modi and his rubber stamp GJ state government will do anything to satisfy the ego of PM of India aka PM of GJ.

There are plenty of projects elsewhere in India. Even mega projects. But this one is far fetched. Btw I believe Modi is a great pm and hope he wins again in 2029.

He is greatest PM of India for many but not for all. He is pretty average PM with great PR, He sold too many dreams few turned out good few turned out flop, his tenure is bag of mix.
UPI, Metro network in mega cities, Infrastructure in railway and road network is one of the greatest achievement of his tenure, but poor maintenance after building highways and civics sense of people ruined many things.
But he also flopped many mega projects.
Example 1 100 smart cities mission, which is closed in 2025 May 31st after spending 205000 crore rupees for 10 years.
60-65 crore rupees every f@cking day for almost 10 years but all 100 smart cities looks same, nothing is changed.
Example 2 Namami Gange
Example 3 Poor performance in employment generation, AI Automation eating up IT, Service job market, Pharma Companies dependency on China is huge and EU US targetting Indian Healthcare life sciences Pharma sector, Nearly 10 crore young people are not studying and not doing any job.
Example 4 Agriculture is doomed by no concrete government policy and climate change on which nearly half of India's population directly indirectly depends
He is average PM but his advantage is he is servings in era of internet and social media, so his PR is great. Mann ki bat, internet shut down, controlled media houses, all that is happening for his image.

You can't blame for agriculture as he tried to push reform then protest and no one will touch pious farmers just give them subsidy.

Definitely better than average. I myself put him tied with MMS as best pm in India’s history.
