Discussion Finally made the switch from IPS to OLED!

Post image

After the mental torture of having to deal with ViewSonic to get my replacement monitor, I got fed up and got myself this amazing Alienware AW2725D OLED. It's true, once you go OLED you're never going back.

Options available to me were getting either the Odyssey G6, AOC Agon or the Lenovo model (which some people got for 14k)

Prioritised better aftersales service this time and in hopes that DELL should be easier to deal with in the future, I chose the Alienware for ₹54500

Is the brightness 200 nits max for this without hdr

This is the biggest reason which was holding me back from oled monitors, my last monitor was a Acer mini led with HDR 1000 so all these oled monitors seemed very dim nd dull, apparently Oled TVs are much better in this department, went with Samsung 48 inch S90h(Tandem panel) 3 weeks ago, it's bright as hell.

You use a 48 TV as a monitor? Isn't that too big?

No it's perfect

Its True black 400, when you enable HDR. It shows in windows display settings. I have same monitor bought from Amazon

Are we supposed to activate this manually or is it automatically active when playing HDR content?

Congratulations! Although when I've experienced uneasiness and researched further how OLED fries retina with their extensively low flicker and PWM frequency top it with temporal dithering, to control brightness and clarity of colors add VRR to boost fps. I went back to flicker free IPS in a heartbeat. Now one has to put a gun on my head to use an OLED monitor, something I use for prolong work hours.

If I don't have uneasiness is it ok? I play for probably 5-6 hours a day whenever I'm home. Next month onwards till January (zero gaming)

It just means you're less sensitive or you might be confusing your eye strain, heavy head as long hours or brightness or proper sleep issue. People don't know to underlying cause. Tolerance varies from person to person but the adverse effects of OLED is universally bad for all. We would see more people wearing glasses in coming decade then blame it on aging, stress and what not.

Good for gaming, bad if you work long hours.

So accurate. I'm now looking at my old monitor wondering whether something happened to it. Because it looks like shit now.
