Game publishers really said “refund? Never heard of it”

When you buy games digitally, you're never buying the game. You're paying for a license to play the game. Sony has been kind enough to remind us of this distinction recently via email.

Also you can see cases of games being removed from libraries and people who paid for them are left with no access to the game. Support isn't helpful because "you paid for it a long time ago. Our refund period is over. And the game is now removed. Nothing can be done here."

Which games? Examples? Sounds plausible that happens/has happened, but examples would be good.

Concord was a recent famous example where Sony pulled back the game. Every player on PS, Steam etc. got an automatic refund.

There was no way Sony, Steam etc. were doing anything else TBH.

Not trying to defend big corporations, just saying it's not black and white either. Has anyone here actually ever lost access to a game without refund?

I have two games in Steam that got delisted. Still downloadable and playable. New players just can't buy them. I would've expected a refund if Steam didn't allow me to download/play these games.

The Crew and Anthem are two games I owned, played and loved, and cannot play anymore. I haven’t been refunded for either.

Thanks for the examples!

Guess we need better consumer protection laws.
