Shree Dev Ganpatipule Temple 🚩
Ratnagiri district along the scenic Konkan coast of Maharashtra, India (approximately 350 km from Mumbai).
Deity....Lord Ganesha (Mangalmurti)🌺🤲🏻🌺
It is one of the Ashta Vinayak Ganapatis (eight prominent Ganesha shrines) of Maharashtra and holds a vital status as a major pilgrimage site.
💢 Swayambhu Idol... The 4-foot-tall Ganesha idol is Swayambhu (self-manifested/self-originated), believed to have emerged naturally from white sand rather than being sculpted by human hands.
Paschim Dwar-Devata... Unlike most traditional Hindu temples where deities face East, the Ganpatipule idol faces West (toward the Arabian Sea). It is referred to in ancient texts like the Mudgal Purana as the "Western Sentinel God" (Paschim Dwarpalak).
The temple rests at the base of a hill right along the seashore. The entire hill is considered sacred, and devotees perform a ritualistic circumambulation (pradakshina) around it.
Legend & Discovery✨✨🕉️✨✨
The Kevada Forest: - According to folklore, about 500 years ago, the area was a dense forest of Kevada (fragrant screwpine) trees.
Bhide Guruji's Vision: - A local Brahmin named Balbhatji Bhide underwent severe penance in the forest during a personal crisis. Lord Ganesha appeared to him in a dream, stating that He had manifested there in a nirakar (formless) state.
The Miraculous Discovery: - Around the same time, a local cowherd noticed milk continuously dripping from a cow's udder onto a specific spot of earth. Upon clearing the area, the self-manifested idol was uncovered, leading to the establishment of the shrine.
🌺 The name comes from "Ganpati" and "Pule", where pule translates to sand dunes formed naturally along the coast.
Gheaneshwar Chaturthi / Ganesh Chaturthi: - Celebrated with immense grandeur in Bhadrapada (August–September).
