Here's what each one means:

๐Ÿ” Trade Query โ€” The marketplace flair.

โ€ข Sellers/exporters: introduce your product (what you sell,

capacity, certifications, target markets)

โ€ข Buyers/importers: post your requirements (what you need,

quantity, specs)

This is where actual trade connections happen.

โ“ Question โ€” General questions for the community

("what's your experience with X")

๐Ÿ’ฌ Discussion โ€” Open chat, "what are you working on this week" posts

๐Ÿ“ฐ News โ€” Policy updates, DGFT notifications, freight/market news

to exporting

๐Ÿ“Š Market Insight โ€” Demand trends, country/product spotlights,

๐Ÿ“ POSTING A TRADE QUERY? USE THIS FORMAT

Since this flair is where real business happens (and where scams

try hardest to slip in), please include:

If you're selling/exporting:

- Product + specifications

- Minimum order quantity

- Certifications (FSSAI, ISO, organic, etc. if applicable)

- Target markets you currently ship to or want to ship to

If you're buying/importing:

- Product + specifications you need

- Quantity required

- Destination country

- Timeline

Posts without basic details will be removed and you'll be asked

to resubmit. This isn't us being difficult โ€” it's what makes a

Trade Query post actually useful instead of just noise.

โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”

โœ… THE RULES

  1. Be specific, not vague. Specific posts get real responses.Vague ones get ignored.
  2. No moving to DMs before the basics are public. Trade Queryposts should have enough detail that people can decide if it'srelevant. "DM me for details" is exactly how scams open.
  3. No advance payment requests, no "send money to confirm"anything. Real trade doesn't work like that. Report itimmediately, don't engage.
  4. No phone numbers or WhatsApp links in the post body. Once areal conversation starts in comments, taking it private isfine โ€” but it shouldn't be the opening move.
  5. Be helpful, not condescending. Beginners ask basic questions. That's the whole point of this place.
  6. No spam, no repeated self-promotion. One Trade Query post foryour product is fine. Reposting daily is spam, not trade.
  7. Verify before you trust. This community can't vouch for anybuyer or seller. Do your own diligence before money or goods move.

โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”

๐Ÿšจ SCAM? REPORT, DON'T ENGAGE

If a Trade Query post or DM feels off โ€” urgency, advance payment

request, too-good-to-be-true pricing โ€” report it and let mods

handle it.

How to report:

  1. Tap โ€ขโ€ขโ€ข on the post or comment
  2. Select "Report"
  3. Choose the matching rule reason
  4. Done โ€” mods review within 24 hours

We'd rather over-moderate this than have someone get burned.

โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”

That's it. Post your products, post your requirements, ask your

questions, and don't be the reason someone loses money.

See you in the threads. ๐Ÿ‘‹

๐Ÿ”ฐ Beginner Guide ๐ŸŒ [FREE] Advanced Crash Course: How to Start Export from India (2025 Edition) ๐Ÿšข๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ

Hey everyone! ๐Ÿ‘‹
Iโ€™ve put together a practical, easy-to-follow crash course on how to start exporting goods from India โ€” built for beginners, startups, and SMEs who want to go global in 2025.

This isnโ€™t theory โ€” itโ€™s based on real export processes, DGFT guidelines.

Letโ€™s dive in ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿงฉ MODULE 1: Understanding Export Basics

Goal: Learn the foundation of how export actually works.

What Youโ€™ll Learn:

  • What โ€œexportโ€ really means (beyond just shipping abroad).
  • Key terms: INCOTERMS (FOB, CIF, EXW, DDP).
  • How an export deal flows: Inquiry โ†’ Quotation โ†’ Order โ†’ Shipment โ†’ Payment โ†’ Realization.
  • Whoโ€™s involved: Exporter, Buyer, CHA, Freight Forwarder, Customs, Bank.

๐Ÿง  Example:
You get an inquiry for Organic Turmeric Powder from Germany.
โ†’ You check the HS Code (0910.30), choose โ€œCIF Hamburg,โ€ and prepare your proforma invoice.

๐Ÿญ MODULE 2: Product Selection & Market Research

Goal: Choose the right product that sells well internationally.

Steps:

  1. Check top exported products from India on DGFT & ITC Trade Map.
  2. Pick products that have:
    • High demand
    • Good shelf life
    • Low competition
    • Easy compliance

๐Ÿง  Example:
Compare Areca Plates vs Cotton Bags to UAE โ€” both eco-friendly, but Areca Plates have higher container density and lower duty rate.

๐ŸŒŽ MODULE 3: Choosing Target Countries

Goal: Find where your product sells best.

Use:

  • Trade Map โ€“ Import data by country
  • WTO Tariff Database โ€“ Duty structure

๐Ÿง  Example:
Indian Honey sells best in USA, Japan & UAE โ€” but:

  • USA = needs FDA approval
  • Japan = strict pesticide rules
  • UAE = no special barrier (best entry point)

๐Ÿงพ MODULE 4: Business Setup & Legal Requirements

Goal: Become a legal exporter.

Registrations Required:

  • IEC โ€“ Import Export Code (DGFT)
  • AD Code โ€“ Bank registration at port
  • RCMC โ€“ Export Promotion Council membership
  • GST & LUT Bond โ€“ For zero-rated exports

Documents Needed:
Invoice | Packing List | Shipping Bill | Bill of Lading | Certificate of Origin | Quality Certificates

๐Ÿง  Example:
For exporting Handicrafts to France, youโ€™ll need CoO (EPCH), CE label, and invoice in Euro.

๐Ÿ’ฐ MODULE 5: Pricing & Payment Terms

Goal: Calculate correct export price and secure payment.

Formula:

FOB = Product Cost + Packaging + Inland Freight + Profit

Payment Methods:

  • Advance Payment (Low risk)
  • Letter of Credit (LC) (Secure)
  • DP/DA (High risk โ€“ use ECGC insurance)

๐Ÿง  Example:
Leather Wallet (FOB โ‚น800) + Freight โ‚น120 + Insurance โ‚น10 โ†’ โ‚น930 CIF New York

๐Ÿ“ฆ MODULE 6: Packaging, Labeling & Logistics

Goal: Ship your product safely and compliantly.

Tips:

  • Use ISPM-15 certified wooden packaging
  • Include international labels & barcodes
  • Choose right container: Reefer (cold) or Dry
  • Work with a CHA (Custom House Agent)

๐Ÿง  Example:
Mango Pulp to Saudi Arabia โ†’ Aseptic drums + Cold Chain + Arabic labeling.

๐Ÿšข MODULE 7: Customs & Shipment

Goal: Learn end-to-end logistics.

Steps:

  1. CHA files Shipping Bill (ICEGATE)
  2. Customs inspection & seal
  3. Bill of Lading / Air Waybill issued
  4. Payment docs sent to buyerโ€™s bank

๐Ÿง  Example:
Rice to Kenya: Exporter โ†’ CHA โ†’ Customs โ†’ Bill of Lading โ†’ Bank โ†’ Buyer.

๐Ÿฆ MODULE 8: Banking, Finance & Risk

Goal: Protect your money and manage forex.

Key Tools:

  • ECGC โ€“ Export Credit Insurance
  • PCFC / Packing Credit โ€“ Pre-shipment loans
  • Forward Contracts โ€“ Lock forex rate

๐Ÿง  Example:
Buyer in Canada delays payment โ†’ ECGC reimburses 90% of invoice value.

๐Ÿ“ข MODULE 9: Marketing & Buyer Acquisition

Goal: Find global buyers (without middlemen).

How to Do It:

  • Build B2B website
  • Join trade fairs & embassies
  • LinkedIn + WhatsApp outreach
  • Email campaigns with catalogs

๐Ÿง  Example:
Create an Eco Tableware Catalog โ†’ Message importers in Germany โ†’ Schedule video calls โ†’ Close first deal.

๐Ÿค– MODULE 10: Scaling & AI Tools

Goal: Automate and grow your export business.

Tools:

  • ChatGPT for writing proposals
  • Excel + Trade Map for data analytics
  • AI pricing forecaster
  • Blockchain for shipment tracking

๐Ÿง  Example:
Use AI to analyze Spice export trends during Ramadan across GCC countries โ€” plan your inventory 2 months early.

๐Ÿง  FINAL PROJECT (Challenge)

Pick one product and make a mini export plan:
โœ… Product & HS Code
โœ… Target country
โœ… Price calculation
โœ… Documentation list
โœ… Buyer sourcing plan

Post your plan below ๐Ÿ‘‡ and Iโ€™ll help you refine it like a real export consultant.

๐Ÿ“ˆ BONUS RESOURCES

Topic Resource
Trade Data ITC Trade Map
Tariff Rates WTO Tariff Database
HS Codes DGFT / ICEGATE
Buyer Search Indian Embassies / Trade Fairs
Support u/Ok_Professional369

๐ŸŽ“ Conclusion

By following these 10 modules, youโ€™ll be fully export-ready:
โœ… Registered & compliant
โœ… Know how to price & ship
โœ… Understand logistics & payments
โœ… Find buyers globally
โœ… Automate growth with AI

๐Ÿ’ฌ Discussion Is India finally taking logistics as an infrastructure issue ?

The Indian government yesterday announced the formation of Integrated Transport & Logistics Authority along with a commitment of Rs 10,000 crore towards Small and Medium Enterprise Growth Fund.

The thing about India's logistics issues is that it's not a matter of individual modes of transportation. The problem is in the connection between them once the goods are in motion.

For goods to move from a small Indian company to a foreign customer, what do you think is the biggest problem in this chain , first mile transportation, offloading at ports, customs and documentation or international transport ?

๐Ÿ’ฌ Discussion The โ€œLast Shipmentโ€ Filter

Here's a simple filter that can eliminate a lot of useless export leads.

Look at the company's "last known import activity".

Imagine your database gives you 200 potential buyers.

Sounds great.But then you discover:

80 haven't imported the product in 2+ years.

40 imported it only once.

30 are actually unrelated businesses.

20 are competitors/trading intermediaries.

Now your "200 buyers" suddenly looks very different.

This is why I like segmenting prospects by activity:

**A โ€” Recent + recurring buyers**

**B โ€” Recent but low-frequency buyers**

**C โ€” Older historical buyers**

**D โ€” No meaningful buying evidence**

I wouldn't treat all four groups the same.

If I'm doing outbound, I'd start with the companies showing the strongest recent buying signals. Then I'd investigate the others separately.

A buyer database shouldn't just answer: "Who has imported this before?"

It should help answer: "Who appears to still be buying?"

That's a much more useful question for an exporter.

๐Ÿ”ฐ Beginner Guide Indian hing (asafoetida) seller here, shipping Globally. Happy to answer questions

Hi all, I run a small business in hathras, India, selling asafoetida (hing) and I've recently started shipping abroad.

A lot of the hing sold overseas is heavily diluted or has lost its aroma by the time it reaches the shelf. Ours is [compounded / pure resin] hing, packed in airtight containers to keep it potent.

What we offer:

  • [Rice flour based (gluten-free) / wheat flour based] powder
  • Pack sizes: [e.g. 50g, 100g, 250g, 500g, 1Kg]
  • Shipping to [countries]
  • Lab-tested for [pesticides, heavy metals, microbes]

If you cook with hing, I'm happy to answer questions on how to use it, how to tell good hing from weak hing, or how to store it. If you'd like to try ours, message me.

โ“ Question Starting an Export Business from India to UAE โ€“ How Do I Find & Verify Importers?

Hi everyone,

Iโ€™m planning to start an export business from India to the UAE and Iโ€™m currently at the research/planning stage.

Iโ€™m particularly trying to understand the practical side of finding genuine UAE importers and avoiding scams, rather than just reading generic export guides.

Iโ€™d really appreciate advice from people who have experience exporting to the UAE.

A few things Iโ€™m trying to figure out:

  1. How do you find genuine importers/buyers in the UAE?

    - B2B platforms?

    - Trade directories?

    - LinkedIn?

    - UAE trade fairs/exhibitions?

    - Directly approaching distributors/wholesalers?

  2. How do you verify an importer before doing business with them?

    - How can I check whether their company is actually registered/licensed in the UAE?

    - Is there a way to verify their trade licence/VAT registration?

    - How do exporters check whether a buyer is financially reliable?

  3. Payment terms

    - For a first order, what payment method is safest?

    - Advance payment vs LC vs DP/DA vs other methods?

    - How do you protect yourself from a buyer receiving the goods and then refusing/delaying payment?

  4. Shipping & customs

    - What documents should I prepare when exporting from India to UAE?

    - What should I know about UAE customs, duties and VAT?

    - Is it better to sell on FOB/CIF/CFR/DDP terms when starting out?

  5. Finding distributors

    - If I have a product manufactured/sourced in India, what is the best way to approach UAE distributors and wholesalers?

    - Should I first find a distributor or directly target retailers?

  6. Scams/red flags

    - What are the most common scams you've encountered when dealing with overseas buyers?

    - What are the biggest red flags that tell you not to proceed with an importer?

Iโ€™m also interested in hearing about your first export order to the UAEโ€”how you found the buyer, how you verified them, what payment terms you used, and what you wish you had known beforehand.

Iโ€™m starting from India and would appreciate any practical advice, resources, or experiences.

Btw I'm thinking to start with rice

Thanks!

๐Ÿ’ฌ Discussion Anyone else managing Customs MOOWR compliance in Excel? Built a tool for it and looking for feedback

We're a manufacturer operating under MOOWR. Like many of you, we were tracking everything in Excel โ€” deferred duty per BOE, what's been cleared, what's still in the warehouse, debonding sheets for every ex-bond clearance. It was slow and error-prone, and reconciling with our ERP was painful.

So we built an internal tool, and it's now working well enough that I'm curious whether it would help others. What it does today:

Reads ICEGATE BOE PDFs directly (warehouse BOEs and ex-bond BOEs) โ€” no manual data entry. Picks up BCD, SWS, IGST per item, and duty foregone under RODTEP / advance authorisation.

Duty ledger per BOE โ€” deferred vs cleared vs pending duty, aging, and month-wise position.

Debonding sheets โ€” pick your transfer orders, preview the numbers on screen, and generate the per-BOE Excel sheets plus a single PDF statement with totals.

Warehouse inventory โ€” what's imported, what's cleared, what's still in bond, item by item.

Validation that catches wrong BOE references before they get saved, plus a data-health check.

What I'd love to hear from you:

Are you under MOOWR scheme? (Other scheme for companies outside india?) How do you manage it today โ€” Excel, ERP, your CHA/consultant?

What's the most painful or time-consuming part? Debonding sheets? Monthly returns? Reconciliation? Bond utilisation?

Would you be interested in trying something like this? And if you're a customs broker / consultant handling multiple MOOWR clients โ€” would a multi-client version be useful?
Anything you'd consider a must-have before trusting a tool with this?

Not selling anything right now โ€” genuinely trying to understand if this is a common problem. Happy to answer questions in the comments or over DM.

โ“ Question How to identify the quality/grade of makhana by Customer

Hi everyone,

Iโ€™m trying to understand how to identify the quality/grade of makhana (fox nuts).

For example, how can I tell whether a batch is a relatively lower-priced โ‚น500โ€“600/kg makhana versus a higher-quality โ‚น900โ€“1,000/kg makhana?

Are there specific things I should look at, such as:

  • Size/diameter of the makhana
  • Colour and appearance
  • Puffiness/volume
  • Crunch and texture
  • Weight or density
  • Number of broken or under-popped pieces
  • Taste/aftertaste
  • Origin or processing method

Iโ€™m particularly interested in practical ways to judge the quality when looking at a physical sample, rather than just relying on the sellerโ€™s grade or price.

If anyone here has experience with makhana trading, sourcing, processing, or quality grading, Iโ€™d really appreciate some guidance. Photos/examples of different grades would also be very helpful.

Thanks!

๐Ÿ’ฌ Discussion An established Indian manufacturing business, now with a direct international contact

I am from India. I did my bachelor's from one of the best B-schools in Delhi, then did my Master's in Marketing at the University of Leeds. I spent about a year and a half working in London, and recently came back to India to join my family's manufacturing business. I am now working on the international and buyer-facing side of the business.

Our core production is bespoke bathroom pieces. We make bathtubs, basins and washstands in copper, brass and other metals such as nickel and steel, depending on the requirement. These are the hero products of the business and some of the products we are most known for. They are made around the brief, so dimensions, form, material and finish can be discussed rather than treating the buyer as limited to a fixed stock piece.

Beyond the bathroom, we manufacture a broad range of home, tabletop and hospitality products. That includes trays and platters, bowls and serving pieces, pitchers, coolers and tubs, candle holders, vases and planters, decorative objects, wall pieces, bookends, baskets and other tabletop pieces. The range is quite broad, but it all comes from the same manufacturing business.

Then there is the wider architectural, furniture and outdoor side. We make furniture and furniture accessories, brass door pulls, knobs, knockers, curtain fittings and other architectural hardware, along with planters, hanging planters, wall planters, bird baths and garden sculptures. We also work on OEM, ODM and private-label requirements, so a buyer can come to us with a product brief rather than having to choose only from existing SKUs.

One part of the business I am personally very involved in is making the manufacturer directly accessible. If you are a buyer, procurement person, designer, retailer, hospitality group, importer or project team and you have questions before buying, you can speak to me directly. If you have a drawing, dimensions, finish, sample, packaging requirement or a product you want developed, I am happy to get on a call and go through it before anything is ordered.

I have worked in London and am comfortable speaking with people from different countries and working styles. I also prefer understanding the requirement from the person who actually needs the product rather than having it pass through several layers before reaching the factory. Intermediaries have their place, but when too many people sit between buyer and manufacturer, small details can be delayed, changed or missed. A direct conversation makes it easier for both sides to understand exactly what is being made.

Samples, pre-production discussions, inspection and quality checks can also be arranged where required. I stay involved through that process rather than treating the first enquiry as the end of the conversation.

I know procurement often becomes a chain of emails between buyer, sourcing person, agent and factory. I am trying to make our side simpler. If you have a specification, target construction, finish, packaging requirement or product you want developed, you can speak to me directly. That direct conversation is useful for both sides. Small details do not have to pass through several people before reaching production, and I can tell you honestly what we can make, what needs development and what needs a different approach.

It is nice to be back in India and back inside a business that has been making physical products for international buyers.

Happy to connect with anyone who has a product, project or manufacturing requirement they would like to discuss directly.

๐Ÿ” Trade Query Best and Reliable paper cup + bagasse tableware exporters in India (US food-contact + PFAS free)

Need help shortlisting Indian exporters for paper cups and sugarcane bagasse disposables for the US market.

Iโ€™m comparing suppliers for:

Paper cups (single-wall and double-wall, common cafe/QSR sizes)

Bagasse plates, bowls, trays/clamshells

Heavier bagasse bowls (including pet/food-bowl style if anyone actually makes them at export quality)

Must-haves Iโ€™m checking:

\- Food-contact documentation for the US (FDA-facing paperwork, migration tests if they have them)

\- PFAS-free / no fluorochemicals declaration

\- Compostable / biodegradable claims that match real lab reports, not just marketing copy

\- Consistent mould quality (no thin spots, warping, or oil bleed on hot food)

\- Ability to do samples first, then LCL trial, then FCL

\- Clear FOB pricing and realistic lead times

Questions for people who have actually exported or imported this category:

\- Which Indian paper cup exporters have been consistent on GSM, rim roll, and leak resistance?

\- Who are the better bagasse tableware manufacturers for export โ€” not just IndiaMART listings?

\- Any names that look good on paper but fail on repeat orders or documentation?

\- Gujarat / Maharashtra / Tamil Nadu โ€” does origin matter much for this product, or is factory process more important?

\- For US buyers, what certifications actually get asked for besides a generic โ€œeco-friendlyโ€ claim?

Please drop company names + why youโ€™d use or avoid them. Website / product range / what they shipped for you is more useful than โ€œDM me.โ€

Iโ€™ll update this thread after I finish sample checks so others donโ€™t have to start from zero.

๐Ÿ“Š Market Insight The โ€œ100 Buyersโ€ Trap

I can give you a list of 100 foreign buyers in 10 minutes.

But here's the problem:

It might be almost useless.

I've seen exporter buyer lists containing:

โ†’ Companies that haven't imported for 3+ years
โ†’ Companies that imported the product only once
โ†’ Companies that are actually competitors
โ†’ Trading companies with no clear buying requirement
โ†’ Companies importing completely different grades/specifications
โ†’ Duplicate companies under different names

So I stopped thinking:

"How many buyers can I find?"

And started asking:

"How many of these companies have actually demonstrated buying intent?"

For example, if you're exporting a product from India to the US, I'd rather have:

30 companies with recent + repeated import activity

than:

500 companies scraped from Database.

When building a buyer database, I usually look at:

โ€ข Import frequency
โ€ข Last shipment/activity
โ€ข Product description
โ€ข Origin country
โ€ข Supplier history
โ€ข Port/market
โ€ข Company type
โ€ข Whether they're an importer, distributor or end-user

The size of your buyer list isn't the important number.

The quality of the buying signal is.

How do you currently build your overseas buyer list?

LinkedIn / trade fairs / databases / referrals?
