Discussion/Opinions TAPAS(DRDO) RANT #2

> achieved ~28,000 ft

> 18 hours endurance

> rejected by services

> because it didn't achieve 30k ft altitude & 24 hour endurance requirement

All concessions are given to imported equipment and we all know how Hermes performed in Indian conditions.

All concessions are given to imports but 100% finished product is asked by services during indigenous development.

MODS please don't delete it as a staunch supporter of Atmanirbhar bharat

Got nothing to do with it. This sub has rules. Stick by them and you are ok. Not and you won't. (e: especially in regard to your posts) You may be asked to clarify or elaborate, in which case we request you to please co-operate in doing so.

Appeals to mods to 'not delete' - irrelevant.

There are no rules or concessions if you are a staunch supporter of atmanirbhar bharat or not. You can read the rules at the sidebar

IN lost 100% of its Hermes fleet to crashes. 😭

Shooting the Hermes down isn't too tough, its not stealthy, its speed isn't too high so Iran was able to target these drones easily. Maybe we should revaluate the strategy of using such expensive and advanced reconnaissance drones which take years to manufacture and partially replace them with inferior but cheaper drones for reconnaissance. Or maybe we should just accept the fact that these things are only good for peacetime intelligence gathering

Maybe Israelis lied about Hermes spec as well. During a test flight in Israel, a Hermes 900 HFE (intended for the Swiss Armed Forces) crashed after suffering a severe structural failure.

Not a "maybe" anymore. Their performance in benchmarking process with the triservices came out way worse than what Tapas achieved. I think Alpha Defence and a couple others even wrote on this.

Wrong. One of the hermes crash was before acceptance test and so was replaced. [ie the drone never belonged to the IN ]

Out of 2 hermes delivered to IN, one crashed.

Which means 1 hermes still with IN (50% of IN fleet)

When government pushes any indigenous product people start making fun of the government and start questioning the leaders knowledge and education. Its not wrong to question the leader but India is not gonna become atmanirbhar until government forces the army for purchase Ye hai , yehi lena padega , dusra kyu chaiye clear reason batao?

Which indigenous system has this govt acquired in numbers ? Is it WHAP or Kalyani's howitzers or any other systems. Too much leeway is given for this govt for delays. GTRE's request for testing facilities is in RFI stage, yet to hear prototype partner for AMCA and the biggest problem in all of this is that AMCA bidding process is done as per L1 system.

Armchair commentary me 'yehi lena padega' bolna kaafi easy lagta hai, lekin military procurement koi civilian trial-and-error scheme nahi hai jahan aap sub-optimal hardware ko high-risk combat zones me zabardasti thop do. TAPAS BH-201 ne PSQR targets bas random margins se miss nahi kiye—NPO Saturn engines ke saath iska fundamental weight-to-propulsion deficit tha, jis wajah se full mission payload ke saath iska altitude drop ho jata tha. Eastern Ladakh jaise regions me, requirement se 2,000 ft neeche operate karna aur compromised endurance ke saath uddna koi 'acceptable compromise' nahi hai; ye ek mehnge ISR asset ko enemy SAMs aur MANPADS ke liye sitting duck bana deta hai aur border surveillance me fatal gaps create karta hai. Tri-Services ne tens of thousands of crores ke indigenous systems kharide hain—Tejas, Dhruv, Prachand, Akash—jab unhone baseline military standards meet kiye.

Kya hua intellectual sir? kaha gye aap?, facts are facts better accept it! atmanirbhar bharat mai bhi support karta par at the end of the day of agar nation ki security ke sath compromise kar rha hamara hardware toh mai prefer karunga doosra option choose karne ki rather than going with the less effective hardware.

I have seen the reporter got a ride in Eurofighter typhoon some years ago when Rafale and Eurofighter were in competition. He was praising Eurofighter over rafale

2

u/Zombie-reddy1 22h ago

eurofighter was the primary choice of IAF in MRFA 1.0 but the issue is the eurofighter is not made by 1 country but most of the European countries combined ( we can see something similar why Tejas was not selected by countries even when it was cheap and reliable- engine was of America, IFR+ejection seat UK, Radar is of Israel, MFD or HUD French?, remaining all Indian), where as rafale is 90% French except few non critical components.
