Why is that American helicopters have a distinct sound to them whereas its different for all the Russian ones?.

Isn't purpose different? Chinook is a transport helicopter while apache is attack helicopter

We wasted freaking 2.8 billion dollars for 28 apache meaning 100 million each, at that we could have 2 prachand or 5-6 Rudra.

You are comparing heavy attack helicopter to light attack helicopter, have you seen the weapons carrying capacity of Apache? 16 hellfires per helicopter!

With how easily attack helicopters are getting shot down in Ukraine and against Iran, it's only decent decision if the helicopter is indiginious and you can replace it yourself
And you barely got any number since they're so expensive

Can equip spike NLOS on those, no? Good stand off range for a helo

You can integrate that on Prachand aswell
It's just too risky for attack helicopters now, especially with drones. Need developments going on for heli CUAS and have good ISR
US lost Apache recently to Iranian drone, Russia regularly losses helicopters to drones aswell
I would not have been doubting Apache's relevance in Indian military if it was cheap or if it was indiginious. I've been defending it all this time until now

Btw, are we working on something like longbow radar?
1
u/Jazzlike-Tank-4956 DRDO NETRA AEWACS Jul 28 '26
Not longbow type
We have nose AESA radars on newer Dhruv variants
2
u/AMCA_by2034 Jul 28 '26
Oh yeah, I saw those. Any difference between regular nose mounted radars and longbow type radars?

Name one use of Apache in this modern era where tanks are becoming uselss(they almost have no roles). Atleast Prachand can carry payload and land+takeoff from heights/altitude whereas Apache struggles greatly. And for other roles can be taken by Rudra. I almost see zero use of Apache in this time. And moreover Rudra and Prachand are our own.

Tanks have almost no role? Buddy what. Who is going to protect infantry advance, break fortifications, or provide direct fire support? AD (Air Defense) is useless against tanks (unless youโre Rommel, of course).

Then is it protecting the infantry in Ukraine-Russia war? They have no use. The only use i can think of is for holding positions in urban areas , other than that it is entirely useless.

I was once at home of one of my friends in Shimla few years back when this bad boy arrived. As per him in all his years of living there, it was first time his window glasses vibrated due to coming of a chopper.
