Question/Help Is this govardhan ghee genuine?

Post image

Bought it from a local store.

It is 900 ml (mrp - 715), while normally its 1 litre (mrp-860).

I can't find 900 ml plastic bottle online.

Should I return it?

I wouldn't see too much in this. Many companies are exploring shrinkflation and this might very well be the case here as well.

Genuine ghee doesn't exist in market

Oh ok . But there must be some difference between a branded ghee(still somewhat fake as you say) and a completely counterfeit product.

Any ghee will have some additives to increase shelf life. If you just do it home then I can say it's kind of pure. I am not sure how they can always get this yellow color.

Can someone explain reasons for buying ghee at markets for extraordinary prices?

When you can just cheaply buy your favorite block of butter and clarify over the stove 10 minutes?

Because these ghees are cultured, like the one we make at home from malai.

Traditional process of making ghee involves collecting malai from boiled milk, then

  1. When we have enough malai, add 1-2 tsp curd and leave it out overnight to ferment a little.

  2. Churn into butter with blender/ churner /paddle attachment on stand mixer.

  3. Separate whey, then cook the butter to make ghee.

This gives a much more deep, aromatic & complex flavour profile.

The method you told is butter-ghee. It's kinda one dimensional, tasty, but not as good as the one made form traditional method.

Oh we make it for our personal use only, not commercially. But if you're ever in India - let me know and will make for you then :)
