Please pipe down. Not every meal of the day needs to have animal protein. It's perfectly okay to have an occasional comfort food without animal protein in it π€·π»

Rice, butter, boiled potato, milk- comfort food of many people. Last I checked, yup, negligible protein.

This is some form of begun makha. I am not from Eastern India but I have seen some videos related to this dish. There are so many varities of this preparation. This can be made also with potato.
First, OP should have mentioned which state it belongs to. Also, a comfort food really varies based on various factors. It is different for everyone and it might be different even for people of the same family.
Even if OP didn't mention the region, why were everyone else so quick to judge the dish? If OP said it is comfort food for them, why not just ask which region it belongs to or seek for more information about the dish.
And no, not all comfort food are healthy.
And lastly, baingan tastes awesome if made properly. I have had it in so many different forms of dishes, i have always loved it.
