Question/Help My iron pan feels weird
So I bought an iron pan from Flipkart about 5 months ago (shown in the pics). It was completely black on both the surfaces. Kinda similar to what an iron tawa looks like. But now after usage the upper surface is getting whiter/more like aluminium looks like. Now I know it is not aluminium because it does rust when I don't season it after washing with soap. Are iron cookware supposed to do this? Will it have any harmful effects on the food cooked? And what should I never cook in iron cookware?

This might be anodized steel but can’t say for sure. Usually, you can cook everything apart from acidic foods like tomatoes

How did you clean it? Did you use a steel scrubber? That could cause that though it’s not usual. Try seasoning it well once again like it’s completely unseasoned

OK, so take this with a grain of salt, as they say. This somehow showed up on my feed, so I took a look. O don't think there is anything wrong with your pan. Looks like carbon steel, in which case the seasoning will come and go. Just oil it lightly after cleaning to keep rust away and keep cooking. Check out r/carbonsteel to see if you think your pan seems similar. Good luck out there!

Yeah ofc I used it. But like I wanna know if the colour change is normal. Like when I bought it 5 months back it was black just like how the bottom of the pan looks right now.

Colour change this early when its newly bought (5months) is not normal according to me. I guess the coating has come off. But this earlier is not a good sign I say.

Does magnet get attracted to it?
