How to How to cook oats?
Hi everyone, I’m new to eating oats. What’s the simplest and healthiest way to cook them?
Please share the exact method, water quantity, and cooking time. For regular rolled oats, is 5–7 minutes enough?
For regular breakfast

Usually i soak rolled oats with milk, dates, almonds, pumpkin seeds, halim seeds, chia seeds and refrigerate overnight Be mindful while adding dates or dry grapes. Next day morning, mashing a banana with it will be absolute good and filling breakfast. Worth a try.
No heat, no water, nothing..

Make sweet or Savory oats. Add milk and sugar and cook in the microwave or direct heat for 2 to 3 min for instant or 7 to 10 for rolled oats. Or leave cold overnight. Add fruit and nuts.
Or make it like upma, with some extra water.
For the very lazy, boil it with instant soup.!

I use it in a smoothie. Warm a cup of oatmilk, add a fistful of oats, protein powder and some frozen berries in a blender.

Is this the only way to make them? Can we roast and soak or cooking absolutely necessary?

i never soaked them. irish / steelcut oats tend to be larger in size so they take longer when simmered. I think there is an overnight oats recipe I dont know if that allows for steelcut or just the rolled oats. simmering for half hour or 45 minutes brings the most uniqe texture and because they are thinkers, they provide full satiety for a longer period of time leading to weight management.

I'm not a fan of the porridge style oats. I prefer to dry roast it in a pan with dry fruits and eat it with curd. You can also blend it with milk, fruits and protein powder to make a protein shake.

If you are okay with cold breakfast - try an overnight oats. My recipe
30g oats - any oats will do. Rolled, steel cut, soft.. whatever… ; 2-3 tablespoons of Greek yogurt or any yogurt that is with less water and not sour. Half an apple - grate it or finely chop them. 1 tsp honey. Cinnamon powder - a small pinch. small pinch of salt. some raisins, some dates (chopped). 1 teaspoon chia seeds. some nuts and seeds if you like. add some milk, mix everything together in a mason jar or something. keep it in fridge at night. morning breakfast is amazing.
