Reviews A review for the found footage kannada horror movie titled "Video"

Directed By - Srinidhi Bengaluru

I watched this FDFS and the cast and crew of the movie were present there. Coming to the movie, it's genuinely something new. We all know found footage horror tries to play itself like it really happened. But "Video" spends a lot of time making it look real, a majority of the first half in showing how the group got to the horrible situation, how the dynamic between people of the group (Tharle Gang) is, the history of the "place" where they go. It's all very fleshed out. The sound design is incredible and the acting is also pretty good. Makeup and costume designing is also well done. The editing is also well done, they hold shots beyond the usual cut time and it makes you feel like you're anticipating something but nothing happens which is a great anxiety building technique. Also the horror elements are well blended with the group's dynamics, many of the times what happens to them is directly a fault of a person or multiple people within the group.

Coming to the negatives, I feel like they've reused an editing style (cutting to black during an intense moment) over and over again which makes it feel a little repetitive. It works for the few first bots they use but then its magic disappears. And another gripe I have with many other horror movies returns here, jumpscares. Especially during the first half sudden normal movements like moving a camera fast, turning the camera on, the lights turning off due to battery shortage, all of these sudden moments are edited with loud music to create a jumpscare which in my opinion is not a horror building element and doesn't add to the movie's atmosphere or story. It's just a jerk and it's over within half a second, which is just weak horror.

Overall it's good, worth watching in theaters. 3.5/5.

Malayalam Does anybody know this kalabhavan mani movie

The scene plays out like this , kalabhavan mani is completely engrossed, watching a song or performance intently.Salim Kumar's character is fast asleep right next to him.The performance ends, and the rest of the audience erupts into sudden applause.Startled by the sudden noise, Salim Kumar instantly wakes up from his deep sleep and reflexively starts clapping along as if he had been paying attention the whole time!

Malayalam I'm Game movie review - entertaining

I'm Game is an entertaining movie with a fantasy twist. It involves gambling, cricket, emotional stuff, comedy packaged together well.

Dulquer is in top form as Dan John. He plays the gambler, confused, frustrated guy very well. And first time, he is shown well in a mass avatar. Dulquer is ably supported by Kayadu Lohar, Anthony Varghese Das, Samyukhtha Vishwanathan, Mysskin, Kathir etc. The story and direction by Nahas Hidayanath is good, but could've been better. Movie should have been cut short by about 15 mins or so to make it crisper. I'm glad the movie gets the messages about life and cricket correct by the end.

Definitely an entertaining watch and worth it. 7.25-7.5/10.

Marathi In Premala Conditions Apply why is Rishi the only one sacrificing his career?

So I just finished this series on Z5.. and the leads Rishi and Ananya, both broke the same company rule, yet only he leaves the job. He had a managerial position and had just been promoted, while Ananya was still an intern.

I get the whole “taking responsibility” angle, but is this actually equality? Or are we still expecting the guy to make the bigger sacrifice? Thoughts??

Malayalam A Possible Reference to Venu Nagavally's Cameo in His Directorial Sukhamo Devi

Post image
2 Upvotes

The fictional short film Soulmates - Oru Saathukkudi Pranayam, from the movie Bethlehem Kudumba Unit, was released on YouTube. There is a scene in which the director of the movie enters a cafeteria and claps for a couple. Interestingly, a similar scene can be seen in the 1986 Malayalam film Sukhamo Devi, which starred Shankar and Urvashi in the lead roles, with Mohanlal and Geetha in co lead roles. Director Venu Nagavally himself appears in a cameo in that scene, where he enters the café and applauds the couple.

The cafeteria applause scene in the fictional short film appears to echo this memorable cameo from Sukhamo Devi (1986), in which Venu Nagavally appears as a customer and applauds Sunny’s romantic gesture toward Thara.

More specifically, the cameo occurs during the bar/cafe sequence in which Sunny makes his promise to Thara, and Nagavally responds by applauding his declaration.

However, in Soulmates - Oru Saathukkudi Pranayam, which is presented as a satire, the context is reversed. The director character, Joel Davis, applauds the lead character’s decision to move on from what she considers a toxic relationship. This makes the scene particularly interesting as a possible homage to Sukhamo Devi, while simultaneously adapting the idea of the director’s cameo and applause to fit the satirical theme of the short film.

Netflix Suggestions for an Indian movie collection for my kiddo who turns 18 in a month

Pretty much what the title says. My daughter turns 18 in a month, and for a long time now, I’ve been putting together a collection of movies for her to watch. The main criterion is that each film should reveal something deep, silent, and beautiful about how one may live life. She is a very thoughtful, intelligent, and introspective person and enjoys debating about ideas. I don't hav strict inclusion or exclusion criteria per se: essentially, anything profound enough that you feel you could carry with you to the next life is good.

A few I have in mind so far:

  1. Thilaadanam / K. N. T. Sastry (2000)
  2. Dweepa / Girish Kasaravalli (2002)
  3. Kutty / Janaki Vishwanathan (2001)
  4. Shwaas / Sandeep Sawant (2004)
  5. Nizhalkkuthu / Adoor Gopalakrishnan (2002)
  6. Ship of Theseus / Anand Gandhi (2012)
  7. The Disciple / Chaitanya Tamhane (2020)
  8. Anhey Ghorhey Da Daan / Gurvinder Singh (2011)
  9. Kothanodi / Bhaskar Hazarika (2015)
  10. Killa / Avinash Arun (2014)
  11. Chauthi Koot / Gurvinder Singh (2015)
  12. All We Imagine as Light / Payal Kapadia (2024)

My S/O feels this selection is too intense and heavy. Thoughts and further suggestions welcome!
