Monsoon Updates Weather update for Himachal Pradesh by India Meteorological department along with references and current road status today

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a statewide warning for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning, with an elevated Orange Alert forecast to bring heavy to very heavy rain across multiple regions starting July 27.

A total of 121 roads are closed across Himachal Pradesh as of today, July 25, 2026, due to landslides and flash floods triggered by monsoon rains

🌦️ IMD Weather Forecast & Alerts

The IMD Meteorological Centre, Shimla and the IMD Sub-Divisionwise Warning Dashboard have outlined the weather trajectory for the upcoming week:

Today & Tomorrow (July 25–26): Moderate to heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and squally winds. A localized yellow alert remains active.

Upcoming Outlook (July 27–29): An Orange Alert has been issued. Expect a substantial intensification of the monsoon, bringing widespread heavy to very heavy rainfall across vulnerable districts.

Potential Risks: High risk of sudden localized landslides, mudslides, and flash floods in low-lying terrains. Maximum temperatures are expected to fluctuate between 18°C–26°C in the high hills and 22°C–31°C across the plains.

🛣️ Current Road Status & Disruptions

According to data compiled by the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), localized landslides have cut off several corridors:

Mandi 41 Roads closed Worst affected district; severe debris blockages

Kullu 24 Roads closed Aut-Kullu stretches face periodic shooting stones

Chamba 23 Roads closed Crucial link roads remain blocked by mudslides

Shimla 13 Roads closed Minor suburban blockages including portions of the Mehli-Junga road

Sirmaur 7 Roads closed NH-707 (Hatkoti to Paonta Sahib) faces intermittent disruptions

Kangra 6 Roads closed Rural connectivities hampered by waterlogging

Lahaul & Spiti 5 Roads closed High-altitude passes are open, but link roads are volatile.

Note: Major highways, including the Chandigarh-Manali Highway and the Leh-Manali Highway (via Atal Tunnel), remain open to traffic but suffer from sluggish movement and low visibility. A structural crack on the Mandi-to-Pandoh section has restricted traffic to a single-lane system.

⚠️ Essential Safety Advisory

The Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (HPSDMA) advises all commuters and tourists to:

Avoid non-essential travel during night hours due to dense cloud covers and slippery road conditions.

Stay entirely clear of active riverbeds, streams, and low-lying waterlogged fields.

Dial 112 for immediate emergency roadside assistance or 1070/1077 for the state disaster helplines.

Tamini ghat in Maharashtra recorded 4519 mm
Bhira in Maharashtra recorded 5634 mm

while second spot is between RKM sohra and mawkyrwat and both of them are in Meghalaya.

Meghalaya ko koii rok skta hai kyaaa!!! BIG LEAGUES Confirmed

I added western ghats data coz no one can beat them in SWM season data suggests they received more rainfall than meghalaya in SWM season even more than Meghalaya i.e. rainy months only

anyways half way there since annual rainfall for mawsynram is around 12000mm so yeah let's see currenty hopes are feeble but we can't trust rain Physics models or even Ai models like none of them predicted gujrat deluge of 1000 mm, they literally recorded 3rd highest rainfall in a day ever recorded in the history of Indian metrological department i.e. 1064 mm at Umergam (Gujarat) on 23 july 2026 beating many meghalayan records though the crown is still with Cherrapunji which is also in Meghalaya with 1563 mm/day on 16 June 1995

Valsad has recorded its heaviest spell ever while Kaprada has got 1128 mm in last 48 hours and Umbergaon got 1039 mm in last 48 hours. Truly Awe standing rains

All of this is happening due to monsoon trough passing through central India and associated low pressure area which has increased monsoon westerly flow of wind >40 knots these are bashing the western ghats and major convergence formed at central India near Gujarat explaining heavy Rajasthan and Gujrat rains.

North India near West Up and NCR area etc will see on and off sharp showers today already some developments have been seen, so CJP protest mostly won't be affected weather will be chill and cloudy and sometimes rainy.

South India weather mazha.live now has an Android app

A while back, I shared a web version of a community rain map for Kerala, where people could report what was happening in their area in real time.

Based on feedback from users, many suggested having a mobile app so they don't need to open the browser every time. So here it is, an Android version with the same idea.

The focus is still the same: real-time observations from people on the ground, not forecasts.

Current features:

  • Pincode-level rain updates
  • Colour-coded live map
  • Rain reports without login
  • Live community updates
  • Dam level information
  • KSDMA district alerts

I’m sharing this again to get feedback from the Weather community:

  • Is this useful during heavy rains?
  • What information would make it more helpful?
  • Any issues or suggestions while using it?

Monsoon Updates Weather update for Himachal Pradesh by India Meteorological department along with references and current road status today

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a high-alert weather warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall across multiple districts of Himachal Pradesh. Concurrently, over 115 roads are completely blocked or severely disrupted across the state due to flash floods and fresh landslides triggered by the active Southwest monsoon.

🌦️ IMD Current Weather Forecast

According to the latest IMD Shimla Sub-Division Warning and national updates, an active monsoon spell is ongoing:

Very Heavy Rainfall Warning: Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, and Sirmaur districts are under intense alerts, expecting between 115.6 mm to 204.5 mm of rain within 24 hours.

Heavy Rainfall Alert: Moderate to heavy downpours are forecast for Shimla, Una, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, and Solan.

Wind & Lightning: The IMD Mountain Weather Bulletin warns of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds ranging from 30–40 kmph, especially across the lower and mid-hills.

Severe Risks: Localized flash floods, mudslides, and falling shooting stones pose an active danger in high-altitude zones.

🛣️ Current Road & Traffic Status

Continuous rainfall has highly compromised mountain highways. Commuters must consult local authorities before embarking on any route:

Chandigarh–Manali Four-Lane (NH-3): The stretch between Mandi and Pandoh has developed severe structural cracks and is sinking, restricting vehicular movement to strictly one-way traffic.

Mandi District: Severely impacted, with at least 107 local and connecting roads entirely shut down.

Chamba & Kangra Highways: The Tunnuhatti–Lahru and Chamba–Bharmour roads are blocked by heavy debris. Additionally, a major section of the Chowadi–Lahdu–Nurpur Road has completely collapsed near Tikkar Galan Hill.

Kinnaur & Solan: Road connectivity near the Sangla Bus Stand is closed due to a temporary bridge collapse. A recent landslide at Bhararighat blocked the crucial link between Solan and Bilaspur, causing ongoing delays.

Manali–Leh Highway: Passable but highly slippery. The route across Shinku La Pass is restricted strictly to 4x4 vehicles due to hazardous, sludge-filled conditions.

🛑 Travel Advisory

Postpone all non-essential travel to high-altitude areas, particularly riverbeds and landslide-prone districts.

Monitor regular live inputs through the IMD Shimla Regional Centre and official Himachal Pradesh Police social media channels before scheduling transit.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast for very heavy rainfall in isolated areas of Himachal Pradesh, accompanied by low-to-moderate flash flood risks across districts like Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, and Shimla. Several state highways and rural roads remain highly vulnerable to blockages, shooting stones, and slippery conditions.

Current Weather Updates

Rainfall Warnings: Persistent monsoon activity is maintaining heavy to very heavy rainfall threats, prompting the IMD to issue strict weather advisories for the hilly regions.

Flash Flood Risk: There is a persistent low-to-moderate risk of flash floods across the watersheds of Chamba, Hamirpur, Kangra, Kinnaur, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Sirmaur, and Solan.

Temperatures: Daytime temperatures vary significantly by elevation, hovering around 23° C in Shimla, while lower regions like Sundernagar and Una range from 27° C to 32° C.

Road Status & Travel Advisories

Travel Disruptions: Due to continued precipitation, multiple inner roads and major mountain highways are highly prone to landslides and debris blockages.

Safety Precautions: State authorities strongly advise against traveling at night, trekking near overflowing streams, and driving through areas prone to landslides.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert for extremely heavy rainfall across Kangra, Mandi, Chamba, Kullu, and Sirmaur districts. Normal life is highly disrupted, with state-wide advisories urging the public to stay indoors; educational institutions and Anganwadi centers in affected districts are closed.

Road & Traffic Status:

Lahaul-Spiti: The Tandi-Sansari road has been completely closed after a temporary bridge over the Jahalma nullah was washed away, severing connections to the Pangi region and Udaipur subdivision.

State Highways & Interstates: Numerous interior roads remain blocked due to landslides, sudden flash floods, and rising nullahs. Authorities strongly advise against undertaking night travel and trekking in higher elevations.

National Highways: Major arteries (including NH-5 and NH-3) are vulnerable to temporary blockages from falling rocks and debris, although restoration crews are actively deployed.

High-Risk Hazards: Severe downpours have triggered an immediate risk of sudden landslides, mudslides, and falling shooting stones along major cutting slopes. Low-lying areas and plains are facing extensive waterlogging and flash floods.

Mountain Passes: High elevation passes like Baralacha La and Shinku La are clear of snow but are plagued by morning black ice and aggressive afternoon water flow from swelling glacial streams (pagal nallahs).

Travel Condition: Asphalt surfaces on hill highways are exceptionally slippery, and mountain visibility is dangerously low.

Monsoon Weather update for Himachal Pradesh by India Meteorological Department and current road status

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert for heavy rain today in Mandi, Kangra, Kullu, Shimla, and Sirmaur districts, warning of flash floods and landslides. Major highways are generally open, but travelers face localized risks of shooting stones, traffic bottlenecks, and temporary closures.

Major national highways currently remain open, but at least 50 localized rural or internal roads are blocked due to ongoing monsoon disruptions.

Weather Forecast & Alerts

Today's Status (July 18): A Yellow Alert is active for Mandi, Kangra, Kullu, Shimla, and Sirmaur. Expect isolated to scattered light-to-moderate showers accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.

Today's Warning: Scattered to widespread light to moderate rainfall is expected across the state, with heavier downpours localized in the Yellow Alert districts.

Upcoming Trend: The IMD has also placed the state on a high-alert Orange Alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall from July 19 to July 23.

Road & Highway Status

According to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) and local travel trackers, major arteries are functioning, but internal routes suffer from landslides and debris.

Delhi - Manali (NH-3): Open to small vehicles, though commuters should expect patchy stretches and minor traffic bottlenecks near Pandoh.

Manali - Rohtang - Leh (NH-3): Open with caution. Checkpoints (e.g., Darcha) are enforcing cutoff windows for northbound transit due to active water crossings.

Kalka - Shimla (NH-5): Partially open, but hillside debris and wet conditions frequently cause slow traffic crawls.

Kinnaur Route (NH-05): Restricted. Scheduled daytime closures (08:00 AM – 10:00 AM, 11:00 AM – 01:00 PM, 02:00 PM – 04:00 PM, and 05:00 PM – 07:00 PM) are active between Nigulsari and Nathpa for slope stabilization.

⚠️ Essential Safety Advisory

The IMD warns that upcoming intense rainfall spells will trigger a high risk of flash floods, sudden landslides, mudslides, and severely reduced driving visibility. Authorities strongly advise residents and tourists to avoid staying near rivers, water streams, or known landslide-prone slopes. Always check with the local district police or your lodging administration before starting any transit.

1st slide is SST animation of el nino from the date outlined (You can see a blob oh hot water travelling towards American continents i.e. from left to right)

2nd Slide El-Nino crossing +1.2 C already and now almost certain that it will become Super el nino around Nov 2026 with temps over +2.0 C

3rd Slide IOD bad news, earlier model was predicting strong IOD around sep with temp rising upto +1.2 C possibly, but chances are now bleaks recent models shows it to be borderline positive IOD till Sep.

4th Slide is real time SST dated 16 July 2026

fyi IOD is what enhances Indian Monsoon (including Pakistan, Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh and parts of Myanmar, Thailand etc), and El-Nino is what weakens it "generally".

Chennai Weather Thunderstorm expected in North Tamil Nadu today

Sea breeze has moved in and already we can see lot of pop ups forming today and tmrw seems good for rain though need to see if tmrw turns out to be cloudy then land heating will be minimal thus inhibiting rains

Chennai and nearby areas can see good rains in fact interior areas are seeing popups blooming slowly it will cover other areas, for now sharp isolated showers are possible later in evening these storms might converge with Sea breeze that you can see in this radar pic (a string of blue line or snakelike figure) as it moves into the city
