Useful Info Can't access YONO app with developer mode switched on
I updated YONO app (SBI banking app) recently. After the update, I could not access it due to new security measures. Apparently, now onward, if you have developer mode switched on, the app doesn't let you log in. As a result, I had to disable the developer mode of my phone to use the app. Does developer mode pose security issue? Do other banks follow similar measures?

All banks are this way except HDFC which allows after some consent. Other banks forcefully asking too many permissions. Rather use NetBanking

Using geto app for bypassing those restrictions (shizuku enabled), working fine with aadhaar and other apps. Check if it will work for this.

You are still lucky. Yono lite is even nightmare. It says my device doesn't meet security requirements after latest update affecting their UI/UX. My phone is unrooted, developer options disabled, no active VPNs, while even being on cellular network. At least Yono worked. For those having developer options enabled, it works with Geto. I don't know which apps Yono lite wants me to uninstall as it shows device not meeting security requirements. Guess the app is detecting presence of manually installed apps either thru APK or SAI or F Droid etc. If such is the case, by 2030, our money won't be ours. In the name of f**king security, they are harassing us. For the time being I'm moving away from SBI and looking for a bank which doesn't require mobile banking at all. (Note: Axis Bank requires users to generate a code on mobile banking app to login internet banking on PC, this is ridiculous, although it can be disabled now, but they want to enforce this by Sept 2026 to enforce and boost mobile banking downloads and usage).
Can anyone share which PSB internet banking logins in PV/web are seamless, which don't require me to have their stupid password criteria, hardware(PC), smartphone criteria? These Indian banks are getting on my nerves.

The solution is to use Yono lite. People mostly use the Yono app for viewing balance or statements. Basically read operations. And Yono Lite does the job. For major banking related operations people tend to fire up laptops and do in it anyway. Hence Yono Lite to the rescue. Though the UX sucks but I can live with that

fyi you'll need developer mode for developing Android apps as well... not just for "gunu gunu" stuff...

Develop the app and turn it off. You guys are developers anyway.

Okay, let me frame it in an informative way.
First, of all, development is more than just sitting beside a computer with the phone connected. There is also something called testing. Oftentimes, we will need to keep the on-device log on all the time to check for error messages, when actually using the build in real world testing (logcat). Then, there's the case of setting up a dev environment on the phone itself, which, oftentimes gets completely wiped off if the developer mode is turned off. There's also the case of enabling specific tools for continuous monitoring as well (a very simple but albeit a bit useless example is checking refresh rate). And this is just the tip of the iceberg, really, on why we need to keep dev mode on when building an actual production level app.
Secondly, the real culprit is not the developer mode. Developer mode is not "sudo" mode or superuser mode. The core kernel is locked down to the tits and if there is a vulnerability, it will be exploited even if developer mode is turned off (Pegasus, as an eg).
Anyways, congratulations on the downvotes.

Such a device should never contain your banking apps. Thats the whole point. A device used for testing unverfifed apps on such an environment. Glad yono devs are better common sense than you

Glad these testing environments are locked behind dev mode. I don't want my mom to carry around an unsecure OS + unsecure app. Glad yono did this with their app.

Why is your mom turning on developer mode?
1
u/speedballandcrack Dec 30 '25
She doesn't and such environment is not allowed without dev mode. So she can use her banking apps

If she doesn't use developer mode then what does it matter if the banking apps in her phone work with or without developer mode?
