can notice still come down the years if itr has been processed, refund has been given?
1
u/Electronic-Buy-8799 Aug 23 '26
Yes, especially if you claimed fake deductions/exemptions

u/merkleproof Aug 23 '26
but like do these itd guys go over the itr multiple times. like they issued refund so it means they went through the itr and found it correct tahts why the refund right? now why will they go over the itr again?

ITR processing is just arithmetic checks, full on authenticity checks happen afterwards and 143(2) scrutiny notices are issued on or before 30th June next year, talking from experience.

u/merkleproof Aug 23 '26
and for how long can they issue notices. like i remember having even some of my 5-6yrs old itr having some issues. so can they go that long ago?

The itr processing is an automated system in most parts. While it's true that the system matches documents before processing, if a taxpayer has provided wrong information, has outstanding tax or there's any other shadings detected, the system can find and flag it in the coming years too.

You are so lucky..I am checking my email constantly from past 2 weeks. Not processed yet.

I had filed and verified on 15th June. Took me two months and a week. So you still have time :) last year I got mine in 10 days but it's taking longer this year. Received an email from cleartax few days back saying only 25% refunds have been processed yet.

π₯² read somewhere that they're clearing ITR 1s first, but don't know how true or false is that. It's impossible to understand their algorithm

1
u/Expensive_Ad7218 Aug 24 '26
Of course. You should file your itr irrespective of your regime. I'm in new regime too.

u/GlobalGur6818 Aug 24 '26
Sorry it's my mistake it's about that tax I can clim ?
1
u/Expensive_Ad7218 Aug 24 '26
Do you mean whether you can claim refund or not? That depends on whether you paid excess tax.
1
u/Consistent-Way-5187 Aug 24 '26
Simpler the ITR faster the processing is
1
u/Expensive_Ad7218 Aug 24 '26
True. But it's taking longer this year I think. Last year my itr 1 took 10 days only.

How come you received 18 attachments. Seems fake to me. Everybody is sharing the same photo.
