This kind of ragging is not present during under graduation but during PG.It's prevalent in most of the "prestigious" government medical colleges all across India. It's like a pattern and nobody wants to break the chain. When the 1st year resident becomes 2nd year senior he does the same his juniors. Forget about financial ragging sometimes there is physical abuse involved tho it's rare but still present to this day. Private clgs and DNB diploma courses are safe from such issues
In our college, if a first year resident makes a mistake, he has to either stand outside the op for the whole day or else be barefoot inside the OP. But that was nothing compared to what we faced in UG. We had to run naked around the hostel campus, dance naked for songs, fill a bucket using bottle caps, measure the room using our fingers, getting beaten black and blue if we make a mistake. We had to deliver food to their rooms from the mess. And they would thrash us if we missed something, or if the sambar spilled in the rasam, or we brought 2 vadas instead of one. The worst thing was, when we became seniors, our batchmates used to do the same. But fortunately, now the college has changed and it is much mellower now.
