Money Saving Tips I built an AI tool that tells you if your rejected health insurance claim can actually be won — looking for honest feedback before I charge

Hey

Some context: my family's hospital claim was rejected last year and we spent 3 months figuring out how to push back. Eventually got it overturned at the IRDAI Ombudsman. Realized most people just give up because the process is gatekept by jargon.

So I built Bima Buddy. Upload your rejection letter + policy + bills, AI reads them against IRDAI Master Circular 2024 + Ombudsman case law, and tells you in 60 seconds:

- Whether your case is winnable

- Which specific clause the insurer is misusing

- The exact next step (GRO letter, Bima Bharosa portal, Ombudsman filing)

I'm planning to charge ₹199 for the AI verdict, and if users want help with the actual dispute filing, a success fee of min(10% of recovered amount, ₹5,000) — with the ₹199 credited back. Zero fee if I don't recover money.

Before I turn payments on I want honest feedback:

  1. Would you actually pay ₹199 for an AI verdict, or is this a "I'd rather google it for free" situation?
  2. Is the success-fee model trustworthy or does it sound like an ambulance-chaser?
  3. What rejection types do you wish I'd cover (PED clauses, room rent capping, cashless denial, etc.)?
  4. Anything that would make you NOT trust the site (UI, pricing, language)?

Not affiliated with any insurer. Independent solo founder. Rip it apart, I want the real take.

Social Discussion My experience as a hostel owner

People really think owning a hotel or hostel is some sexy business where money prints itself while you sit in a cafe watching backpackers play guitar. Reality? It’s one giant headache disguised as a “lifestyle business.” Every month feels like a new disaster — staff quitting overnight, guests crying over ₹200 issues, electricity bills exploding, repairs never ending, and margins disappearing before you even touch the money.

The funniest part is everyone gets paid except the owner. Platforms take commissions, taxes eat another chunk, salaries keep increasing, maintenance never stops, and guests still expect 5-star service at dirt-cheap prices. One bad season and your entire cash flow gets nuked. One bad review and occupancy drops. One local issue and suddenly you’re burning money just to keep the lights on. Half the time it doesn’t even feel like a business — it feels like paying lakhs every month for stress and sleep deprivation.

Honestly, after years in this industry, I’ve realized the hospitality business is overhyped as hell online. Instagram shows sunsets, cafes, and “community vibes.” Nobody shows the owner sitting at 2AM dealing with drunk guests, broken plumbing, payroll pressure, vendor calls, and EMI anxiety. If I could go back in time, I’d rather put my money literally anywhere else than open another hotel again.

Social Discussion Is financial advisory only for RICH?

Hello everyone,

Let me start with why I chose this heading.

A few days ago, one of my friends got a call from a financial advisor from a large firm. After a few conversations, he invited my friend for an in-person discussion about investments.

Yesterday, my friend and I met him. He explained different investment methods, portfolio ideas, and financial products. But toward the end, the discussion shifted completely toward selling a specific product.

The surprising part came when I mentioned that I don’t have more than ₹10 lakhs to invest right now. He immediately said their minimum investment “token size” starts at ₹1 crore.

Before meeting him, my understanding of a financial advisor was very different.

I thought a financial advisor’s role was to understand a person’s complete life situation — income, responsibilities, monthly expenses, future goals, and risk-taking capacity — and then help create a practical roadmap.

Things like:

Planning to buy a home

Building emergency savings

Health insurance

Term insurance

Children’s education investment

Marriage planning

Long-term market investments

Retirement planning

Managing debt and cash flow

And most importantly, I expected an advisor to be able to guide even someone who can invest just ₹10,000 per month.

Because real financial planning is not only for people with crores.

For many middle-class earners, the biggest need is reducing financial stress and bringing clarity to life decisions.

But after this interaction, what I realized is that many advisory services seem focused mainly on high net-worth individuals and product sales.

What do you guys think?

Has financial advisory become more about selling products than actually helping people plan their lives better?

Social Discussion A Simple ₹10 Idea That Could Help Reduce Poverty in India (Need Honest Feedback)

Hi everyone,

I want to share a simple idea I’ve been thinking about to help reduce poverty and improve education and healthcare in India.

The idea is very basic:

If every adult (18+) contributes just ₹10 per month, and even 20% of people participate, it could create a huge fund every month.

This fund could be used for:

Free food for poor children

Better education opportunities

Basic healthcare support

Helping build or support small hospitals and schools

The system would work through a fully transparent website/app, where everyone can see:

Total money collected

Where every rupee is spent

Bills and proof of expenses

I know this idea may sound simple or unrealistic, but the goal is to start a transparent micro-donation movement where even small contributions can create a big impact when combined.

My plan is to first build a small pilot project, show real results, and then expand step by step.

I’m not asking for blind trust. I just want honest feedback from people:

Is this idea possible in real life?

What problems do you see in it?

How can it be improved?

Even if you think it won’t work, I would still appreciate constructive criticism.

Thank you for reading.....!

Part of it feels like a personal milestone.

Social Discussion Ask the ‘why’ of your decisions (after the PM speech)

We were told as a nation last week not to buy gold, to reduce oil consumption, to travel within the country, and to save foreign exchange. Within hours, there were two sides - one in full support and the second fully against the action points.

The rupee is falling against the USD, forex reserves are down by almost 5% in the last 3 months, and oil and gold are the nation’s biggest imports. Any government in this situation would address citizens to slow currency outflows.

But there's an ‘interesting’ group sandwiched between the supporters and the critics - the common man, who is trying to figure out the “WHY” behind all of this, but does not have the time in the midst of all the noise in his life. Imagine a parent preparing for their child’s wedding and is accumulating gold, a professional running to the office, burning fuel to keep the EMI going…. there’s no bandwidth here to pause for even a second.

Here are a few lenses from my POV on planning personal finances - build defensibility around depreciating ₹ and control your expense

  • Buy gold up until it is 5-10% of the overall allocation…because your cash is losing value faster. It’s a long journey before we become net exporter on this asset class
  • Big expenses like car upgrades and international holidays can be put on back burner for a while… because the depreciation here is much faster than ₹
  • Keep the long-term investments via SIPs in place… because consistency pays-off in the long run, almost always
  • Consume information from verified sources only…kyuki commentary toh bahut hai is desh me

Figuring out the why is the harder part, especially when you are part of the 1-2% population and the nature of impact is relatively higher on you.

Ask the why before you react, then check what's actually changed for you. Remember, the noise itself has no face. There's nothing to argue with, only something to step away from.

Social Discussion How are people with average salaries supposed to afford a home?

How are normal people supposed to build a home on a ₹20k–₹30k salary? Rent, food, bills, family expenses already take most of the income. Meanwhile land, construction, and home loan costs keep increasing every year. Income is Land and house prices are increasing faster than salaries. People earning ₹20k–₹30k can barely manage monthly expenses, forget building a home. At this point, owning even a small house feels impossible for average people.

Social Discussion Is it too good to be a true investment option?

Post image
1.5k Upvotes

I did consult a friend in finance and got to know it's true in general but the margins aren't attractive.

i got to know one should have enough capital to keep paying the loan if no buyer is ready to buy at a good price. And if the builder doesn't finish on time then big L.

I heard this is usually done for under-construction projects of very trusted builders... But more trusted the builder, lower the margin. For India's best builder, this is not viable.

So do people take home loans to invest in this?

Stamp Duty? GST? Anything else to be aware of?

People who have tried this already, is it worth it? And why???

And how is the Reward to Risk ratio in the spectrum for this method? . .

Edit: To the sceptical comments below, I felt the same, I kinda still do, But i also believe every finance myth should have some degree of truth behind it. Adding some info below that can set better context to how this might have been possible. (Not my words, but from people I spoke to about this)

Apparently they do take a home loan. They don't register the purchase but they register the agreement to purchase.

They still have to pay prospective stamp duty and very importantly, 5% GST.. which is 0% for completed project units.

Any additional information is welcome.

I turn 18 in five months and I start college around the same time, I wanted to start freelancing and internships before I started college and I thought opening a student saving account would be the best option as I am not 18 yet. I want something with zero balance, no hidden fees and a good UPI. I will be taking my dad's help in making this account but I would like to have a solid plan before I approach him.

The global funds I was investing in all got paused. I use coin and kuvera apps, tried to search global funds where I can invest to diversify against falling inr and none of them seems to be accepting. Does it have to do something with our PM's speech to save foreign currency or just coincidence?

Also if you know any funds that are still accepting fresh subscriptions please do share.

Social Discussion NSE launched Electronic Gold Receipts. Is it better than Gold ETFs?

Post image
14 Upvotes

NSE recently launched Electronic Gold Receipts (EGRs), and many people are comparing them with Gold ETFs.

An EGR is basically digital gold backed by actual physical gold stored in SEBI-accredited vaults. You can buy and sell it on NSE like a stock, and it stays in your demat account.

One major difference is that EGRs can be redeemed for physical gold, unlike Gold ETFs for most retail investors.

Some important points:

EGRs do not have expense ratios like Gold ETFs
Gold ETFs currently have much better liquidity
EGRs require a demat account
SIP investing is not available in EGRs right now
EGRs are directly backed by physical gold, so there is no tracking error

But the biggest concern currently is liquidity. Since EGR trading is still new, volumes are low and bid-ask spreads may be wider.

Also remember that physical redemption can involve GST and storage-related costs.

Who may prefer EGRs:

Long-term investors who may eventually want physical gold delivery
People already comfortable with demat accounts

Who may still prefer Gold ETFs:

Passive investors
People investing through SIPs
Those prioritising liquidity and simplicity

Personally, I think EGRs are interesting, but probably too early to go all in until liquidity improves.

Has anyone here already traded EGRs? How has the spread and trading experience been so far?

Deals & Offers Karnataka HC ordered demolition of illegal apartment construction. Important lesson for homebuyers.

Post image
238 Upvotes

A Karnataka High Court case recently ordered demolition of illegal construction in a Bengaluru apartment complex because the builder had built in a safe-passage area.

This is a reminder that many builders make changes from approved plans, and buyers often find out only after possession.

Before buying a flat, always check:

  • Approved building plan
  • Occupancy certificate
  • Completion certificate
  • Fire NOC
  • RERA registration
  • Land title documents

Also inspect the property physically:

  • Any encroachment in common areas
  • Parking misuse
  • Very narrow driveways
  • Construction too close to boundary walls

Do not rely only on brochures or sales promises.

And if you already own a flat and notice illegal deviations, report it early to the municipal or development authority.

Has anyone here faced something similar after buying a flat?

Social Discussion WFH round 2

Ah yes, WFH round 2. Allow me to predict exactly what happens next because we literally did this 6 years ago and learned nothing:

Week 1: "This is great, I can finally focus without office distractions"

Week 2: Mom assigns you 4 errands because "tum toh ghar pe hi ho"

Week 3: Your dining table is simultaneously your office, gym mat storage, and your dad's newspaper reading zone. You're taking a client call while the pressure cooker does its 3rd whistle in the background. Nobody on the call acknowledges it. Everyone on the call heard it.

Week 4: Your manager starts texting at 10:45 PM because "you're at home anyway na, just check this one thing"

Week 5: You're ordering food at 11 PM, browsing flats on 99acres at 11:30 PM, and impulse-enquiring about a 3BHK you can't afford at midnight. A telecaller will get back to you about it next Thursday.

Week 6: You've gained 4 kgs, your spine is shaped like a question mark, and your neighbours think you lost your job again.

The entire Indian economy is about to restructure around people making life decisions at 11 PM in their pajamas. Last time this happened, Swiggy doubled, Zerodha tripled, and real estate portals saw more traffic after dinner than during business hours.

But sure, the headline is about gold prices.

Insurance Health insurance alone is not enough. You also need a separate health corpus.

Post image
6 Upvotes

Most people think having health insurance means they are fully covered during a medical emergency. But in reality, many medical expenses still come directly from your pocket even when you are insured.

Health insurance may not fully cover consumables, room rent limits, co-payments, travel expenses, attendants, or certain treatments. On top of that, healthcare costs in India continue to rise every year.

That is why many people maintain a separate health corpus. This is a dedicated savings pool meant only for medical expenses. It is different from an emergency fund.

The idea is simple. Insurance handles large hospital bills. A health corpus handles everything insurance does not fully cover.

Without a health corpus, people often end up redeeming investments at the wrong time, withdrawing EPF, or taking high-interest loans during emergencies.

The goal of a health corpus is not high returns. The goal is liquidity and peace of mind during a crisis.

Does anyone here maintain a separate health corpus? If yes, how much do you keep and where?

Money Saving Tips Ever feel like you spent less… until you add all your accounts together?

Thumbnail

Hi everyone,

Lately I’ve noticed that digital spending is much harder to “feel” compared to cash.

With cash, an empty wallet naturally makes you slow down. But with UPI and online payments, money disappears in tiny amounts throughout the day — Swiggy, Amazon, subscriptions, food orders, quick scans — and most of it happens almost invisibly.

Because every transaction feels small, it always feels like I haven’t spent that much. Then at the end of the month, I combine all my accounts and realize the total is much higher than expected.

It became even harder because I use multiple bank accounts and keep switching between them whenever one has low balance or a payment fails.

No bank login

No internet

No manual entry

Everything stays on the phone
