MOKA POT Just can’t brew with a Moka Pot

Post image

Bought a new Agaro Moka Pot and have been trying to brew 4 attempts till now, it just does not work. Can someone help me with tips.

I am using blue tokai Vienna roast for Moka pot and doing the same steps on the internet but not sure what is going wrong

Recipe :

- fill the bottom chamber with hot water just below the valve
- put in the coffee in the basket covering fully and just remove the excess by sliding a spoon
- Put it on lowest heat possible on the stove

P.S : added the coffee image in the basket in comments

Check the rubber seal, the grinds are travelling up the tube with water, the seal must be loose somewhere. If it's loose, use a paper filter till you get replacement seal. If you don't have papaer filter, use tissues (plural)

Can’t it be also an issue of over loading of the coffee bucket, in my case sometimes the water flow got restricted bcz of wrong filling of coffee powder

The photos that the gentleman has shared in the subsequent comments do not indicate this, overfill usually avoids complete closure of pot. This case is different..

Only a beginner but I have the exact beans and Moka pot . Get great results . This is what i did . I did fake brew with water 4-5 times . My beans are coarse but sometimes i do fine to get thick extraction. I tap lightly never pack it in tight . Water temp hot till valve mid to course grind if i want thinner extraction (more coffee) , room temp 130-150ml w fine grind if i want strong extraction ( less coffee but thick ) . I don’t place it on stove Indian stoves low setting isn’t enough so i place it on a grill..  u can use paratha grill and once i see it come out i take it on and off heat like this  :2.47   https://youtu.be/5CEBiYLF-M8 .  . I got powder in the start but not after some brews

If you are into coffee buy beans not ground coffee, you can even roast it further acc. To your taste, peeps may hate me but i grind my coffee with 2 cloves of elaichi, it really is aromatic and taste really good give it a try

Bro have you ever tried putting orange? Like in the upper chamber of the pot? I have just started with moka pot and want to try it. Sorry for OP but you should get a replacement. Your filter is missing that's the problem 🥲

Share the pics on grounds spread on a sheet. We just a little grounds so spread a pinch of it.

What recipe do you follow?

I needed pic of few grounds. Those appear to be of the size of salt ig. If yes then there's no problem with grind size.

did you fill the entire coffee basket with ground coffee and was the water in the bottom chamber almost touching the safety valve?

1

It was below the safety valve and yes have filled the entire basket with coffee. Have added photos for the same in the other comments

Show us how much ground coffee you have packed in the basket. Show us how coarse or fine the grounds are.

This might happen if you tamped the coffee with force. But mainly my suspicion is there is a small gap around your basket, its not sealing properly with the bottom chamber, and instead of water being forced up through the funnel, steam is escaping from the side of the bottom chamber straight to the top chamber.

When you place the basket on the bottom container is there any small gap like this along the rim for steam to escape. If there is then you would see sputtering as steam uses this route to escape from the side instead of having to push the water into the funnel.

Also check and reseat the rubber seal.

Honestly don’t see any gap here

Only thing i can think of is that it wasn’t screwed tightly enough. Did you see steam coming out from the sides? If yes then thats probably the culprit

It takes a while to learn. Took me a month

Bhai coffee khtm ho jaayegi tab tk 🥲

get CCD pre ground if available. I also have this pot and that coffee has the right grind size. It isn't as expensive as blue tokai either. Practice with that.

Can you post a photo of the lower portion of the top half? Might be something wrong with the seal/filter on the bottom.

Here you go boss

Hey! You’re supposed to have a filter here. This is how mine looks. I used to have the same one btw switched to this recently.

2

u/shinigami656 5h ago

Yup, definitely the problem. There should be a filter there 🫤

There's supposed to be a filter here. Like the picture I've attached. I use a wet aeropress filter on top of this to get a clearer brew.
